This beach has been on our Oahu "to try" list, but we somehow always ended up in Lanikai and Kailua when on the eastern side. Waimanolo is a bit further south from Lanikai and is every bit as gorgeous and even more secluded!! Same dreamy waters, blue skies, low hanging clouds, and soft sands.... Without the chaotic parking and with less crowds. It was pretty easy for us to find street parking here and it really felt like the entire beach was ours. read more

Waimanalo Beach is a stunning beach on the eastern shoreline of the island of Oahu. It is not too far from Waikiki and the drive here is absolutely beautiful. It is also far enough that there aren't many tourists, and there's plenty of parking and even a small playground for kids. However the bathrooms at this beach seem to be under renovation and are not the best, so just beware. I highly recommend coming prepared with chairs and snacks, since there's not much around this area. Also, the waves here can get very rough which is not ideal for small children so beware of that. However, we had an amazing time building sand castles and just playing with the sand. I recommend coming here just for a few hours and then moving to another beach. read more

If you have never ventured to the windward side of the island, do it! This beach was phenomenal. This is what you picture when you think of Hawaii: white sandy shores, crashing waves, turquoise waters. Because you probably need a car to get here, it was great there was parking. There are actually two parking lots. There are also showers and bathrooms. I also saw lifeguard towers if that puts your mind at ease. This area of the island often has man-of-war in the water. They are jellyfish like creatures that will sting you. Don't let that stop you from coming, but be aware if you feel scratchy from the salt water...you might have gotten stung. There are shaded areas to sit near the trees if you prefer. Also plenty of sunny areas to sunbathe in the sand. Definitely check this beach out. read more

Although, it's much windy and big waves. While swimming, sand would be inside your bathing suit and your covered with sand at the end even though there's showers to wash off. Visited Waimananlo Beach twice during our family trip to Oahu, this was my kids favorite beach out of the 5 or 6 we visited. The waves are small (think wave pool) but fun enough to play around in, the waters are turquoise and shallow near the shore with a slow drop off. On this recent trip to O'ahu, I finally found some time for a relaxing day at the beach, and Waimanalo Beach just happened to be the lucky winner! I spent a good portion of my trip in nearby Kailua on the Windward or east side of the island where this beach was located. I pleasantly came across it after a massive meal at nearby Keneke's Waimanalo as I explored around and tried to walk off some of the awesome grindz I stuffed into my belly. Although I never saw it, apparently the formal "park" portion of the beach had picnic areas, public restrooms, shower facilities, lifeguard stations, and shady areas along ironweed trees (I saw some trees where I was at). Was this "hidden gem" worth another visit the next time I was on the island!? EXPERIENCE The word Waimanalo meant "potable water" but was unaware of its relevance here. My daughter wanted to come here with her friends so I drove them here. My daughter enjoyed being in the water with her friend. I sat down on the beach under an umbrella because I didn't want to get burned. I don't like too much sun. I did enjoy the views of the sand and clear water. There's a parking lot right in front. Limited spaces though. When we left, a car was literally waiting for me to leave. There's restrooms and a place to rinse off the sand off your body and feet. That was near the restrooms. I definitely liked this beach as it wasn't too crowded on a Monday afternoon. I did hit a little traffic as there were construction going on in the roads. Highly recommend this beach. Laaaawd GEEZUS!!! This is possibly the most beautiful beach that I have ever seen in my entire life. Yep, I said it. In my LIFE!!! I've been to quite a few beaches in Hawaii, but Waimanolo Beach trumps them ALL! It just became my absolute favorite beach on this island. Now granted I haven't visited every beach on the island, but it's still the most gorgeous beach that I've seen until I'm proven otherwise. Whew.... I mean, where to begin?! The soft white sand, the incredibly vibrant aqua hues, the calm and beautiful white waves. The water is crystal clear and there isn't a speck of garbage in sight. They keep it extremely clean. This is one of those beaches that you see in the movies or on TV. It looks so fake but it's real. It's so surreal how stunning this beach is! I'm sure a beach like this gets crazy crowded on the weekends, but it was pretty chill during my stop on a weekday afternoon. In fact, there was plenty of parking spaces open when I arrived around noon. There's a good amount of recreational space right before you get to the beach. It's covered my tall trees and there's plenty of grassy space. They've got lots of trash cans on site with showers and restrooms (wasn't the cleanest restroom in the world, but at least they're on site). The trek down to the beach is an easy one, so bring all of your beach gear with ease. This stretch of beach seems to go on for literal miles, so there's plenty of room to spread out and lots of beach to explore. I found a wonderful secluded area where I was damn near the only on there. This is how I prefer to enjoy my beach time, and ya girl fell in love instantly! I felt completely safe too. Got in the warm water and also enjoyed a relaxing nap too. My kind of beach day! Been dreaming about Waimanolo Beach ever since I left. I honestly would have gone back every single day that I was there, but the explorer in me wanted to check out other beaches too. But now I see; this beach is simply the best! Highly reommended beach on the windward south eastern side of Oahu, under 40 minutes from Waikiki. Three miles of soft sand, wind and waves make it a fun site for wave jumping, boogie boarding and lazing on the beach. Quiet, clean and uncrowded, a true gem. There are lifeguard stations and restrooms along the Waimanalo Beach Park which also has basketball couts, recreational lawns and a small playground. Our favorite access point was along Wailea Street. At the Wailea intersection with the main road, only a 5 min walk from the beach access path, there are amenities and food such as Keneke's Plate Lunch and BBQ, Kalapawai Cafe & Deli, a fresh coconut and pineapple stand, a homecooked lau lau stand, Ono Steak and Shrimp, a gas station with a 7-Eleven and a local corner grocery store! So I'd love to put a 5 star but then that means if I do, MORE PEOPLE will make their way to this beach. Lol! Nah nah just kidding. Only reason why I say 4 is because overall this is a nice place for the families to come to for a picnic, beach day, events, parties, etc. Only thing is... because it's on the WINDWARD side of Oahu, the weather tends to get windy and sometimes rainy. Otherwise if you get here early enough, you'd catch some sunrise as well as morning sun til the afternoon. AND you'd be out of the traffic. Being that it's only a two way road but ONE WAY IN AND ONE WAY OUT location off the highway, sometimes there's a bunch of TRAFFIC entering waimanalo and exiting. Everyone goes to Lanikai beach because it's supposed to be one the the best beaches in Oahu...and they're right. But getting there and finding parking will take away a good chunk of your day unless you show up first thing in the morning. Waimanalo beach is just as nice and is less restrictive to finding parking. So this is definitely a good spot to go if you're trying to find other options. read more

The tent homes along the road prior to entering for parking can often sway many tourists from stopping , sadly, but their loss all around. On the mission to check out some new beaches on the Windward side of Oahu, Waimanalo Beach was next on the list. It is about 1.5 miles south from Sherwoods Beach. We parked on in a residential neighborhood on Laumilo St., which parallels the beach and walked down a public pathway between two houses that led you onto the beach. Coming here on Wednesday around 2 pm, there were about 6 people on the beach. It was serene and peaceful and the sand was soft and fine with turquoise blue water. Seems the clouds were following us and it was sprinkling on and off. There is a grove of trees before the beach, which might provide some shade on hot days. Another nice and a peaceful beach on the Windward side. read more

The waves here are great for being in your inner tube, but not ideal for serious boggie boarding. I love the drive out of the city to the country with my friend and dog. On Sunday, parking was almost full with people with their activities. The wind was windy but not cold. The dog likes to explore but doesn't like too much wind and sand goes into his eyes. Most of the people were not wearing masks while on beach and having picnic. read more

The days we went, Thurs, Fri, Sat... afternoon and near end of day... it didn't seem that crowded. Also, parking was easy to find and there were spots available. Hmmm...not sure if this is the thing to review or Waimanalo District Park, but whatever - I'm going with this one! From the review count, it seems like the park is the way to go, but I have no idea what it looks like or what it has to offer. The beach, though? GORGEOUS! In a lot of ways, Waimanalo Beach reminds me of this other amazing beach along the North Shore that my friend and I discovered on my last trip to Oahu (if only I could remember the name!). Both have super soft sand, (relatively) calm waves, and are far less crowded compared to the likes of Waikiki or Hanauma Bay. What's more, there's plenty of space to lay out and soak up the sun and breeze, especially during low tides. Oh, and the view? Picturesque! Given how its lack of popularity is a large part of its allure, it's probably counter intuitive to be reviewing this perfect gem and risk it becoming overrun (not that I have that kind of influence). However, this isn't some secluded cove or tucked away beach, like the one on the North Shore (the beach access was a narrow path between houses). Rather, it's wide open, alongside a neighborhood street, so it's not exactly hidden. Of course, it helps that it's still a bit of a drive to get here from Waikiki and it's not like there's much else here to attract folks (kind of the point, no?). Waimanalo Beach, I will DEFINITELY be back! read more
