Waikiki Beach is right across the street from our hotel in Honolulu and it's just beautiful here! The sand is like sugar crystals and surprisingly clean. The water is crystal clear and even though it's crowded due to the lovely weather, there's still plenty of room for everyone. read more

Located directly in front of the Queen Kapiolani Park. Parking at the zoo is available for a cost. Beautiful place to watch a great Hawaiian sunset. Always filled with locals jumping off the wall into the water. This place brings back lots of memories. Can sit along the wall and watch the beach volleyball players, boogie boarders, beach goers or just jump in the water yourself. read more

Landmark in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii... Waikiki Beach Walls remind me of the Children's Pool at La Jolla in San Diego. A portion of the ocean in Waikiki is made safer for people - especially children - who venture into the water. The Walls provide a barrier from some of the strong waves. This is a calmer area of Waikiki Beach where swimmers don't have to battle the waves as much. There's a pier-like walkway (that juts out into the ocean) which is perpendicular to The Walls. It's an interesting vantage point to watch surfers, paddlers, and people in general! Some adventurous youngsters like to jump off these structures... I would advise against this behavior... Built in 1927, "The Walls" started at 170 feet long, then, in 1930, 200 feet were added to total 370 feet. The Walls offer some protection from Sharks and other predators - or things that could hurt you (like surfboards). Sharks aren't around Waikiki often, but... You never know... read more

The beach wall at Waikiki is located further down from the main parts of Waikiki Beach but it was still just as nice with fewer people. Beach walls are shorter walls in the water that prevent waves from coming closer to the shores so people can freely play in them without getting moved around or swept away. You can lay on the beach here and it is also great for sunsets. There are even beach chairs in the area that you can rent if you want a nice view and a relaxing seat. Have a beach day here and you'll have a good time! read more

It's a small beach, which I like because it's easy access from the street especially when carrying lots of stuff! Because the stone walls break the waves, the water closest To the beach is calm and just perfect for wading or floating. So peaceful. It's great for families with little kids because it's more like a pool than the ocean. Although there are fish and they are visible because the water is clear. The views are spectacular! To the west is the notiporious pink Royal Hawaiian Hotel with a beach of pink umbrellas and the other large hotels in that area like the Sheraton. To the east is Diamond Head. And if you look straight out to the ocean you can enjoy watching hundreds of surfers who are there every hour of everyday, any weather. I find them fascinating! There are bathroom facilities right there and a shower to rinse off the sand. Even picnic tables and benches along the sidewalk. Plus any food, drinks or snacks you want just across the street at the many ABC stores or restaurants that line the road. Grab a tube or raft from the ABC store for $5 and float the day away! Make sure to come back at night for some of the most incredible sunsets in the island. read more

The highlight of our Honolulu trip. 15 minute walk from our stay. We came here just about every day. My kids bought boogie boards at the ABC store across the street. We enjoyed this beach very much. The waves resembled that of the waves at the water parks. read more

I mean! Whatever. I like this place. It's a beautiful wall to jump! Or hang out or hang by. Views are great. Our condos is close by so I hang out here often. I used to hang here as a kid but not as often as I want. And the views are just amazing. You can catch the waves or watch the surfers catching it. Diamondhead views, waikiki views and some really good sunsets are usually found here. They also have showers and such to rinse off after so you don't walk back with all that sand. And it's always busy! People aren't wearing masks here though on my recent visits. Both locals and visitors. Guess cause it's a beach. But there are a lot of people here at all times. So just be cautious! read more

These were wonderful! What are they, you ask? They're low stone walls that surround a good chunk of the ocean by the shore so that you can enjoy peaceful water with no waves. There were people doing laps, babies playing in the calm water, people laying out in it, etc. It was nice to have the option to chill behind the walls, which were super impactful against the big waves and surfers. The beach itself was beautiful as well, albeit quite crowded. Come enjoy! read more

We love the beach walls! It was so nice to have this area to swim in. Perfect for our little one. The view is gorgeous. Came early in the morning and the beach was not busy. Our airbnb is walking distance from Waikiki Beach so it was super convenient. It's so peaceful listening to the water, feeling the sand between your toes, and the warmth from the sun. Ok. So other than it being too hectic crowded In Waiks... tonight is an exciting night for the kids. Double shows & performance by Ms. LAUPER herself. Can't go wrong with that. This is a place you gotta see if you are in Waikiki - the beach walls create a sort of small natural swimming pool area where the water is calm and you can wade out knee-deep or so and enjoy. Lots of children and families were doing so on the afternoon I was there waiting for sunset. There is a long walkway where you can walk several hundred feet out but that tends to get really crowded during peak times - like sunset. Waikiki is a gorgeous spot with lots going on and a friendly, Hawaii, vibe. I loved it. You have great food, live music, shopping and in general people just enjoying the Aloha spirit here. It's a bustling beach in a popular tourist area with hotels and tons and tons and tons of shopping. Parking can be an issue during tourist season if you drive and aren't staying locally. You can find some metered spots but you may have to park quite a bit away from here and walk as this is in one of the hearts of the main part of Waikiki. Worth it though. read more

Wonderful spot to go and grab some picturesque views of the beach. The area is also less crowded than other parts of Waikiki beach. Bring your camera, towel, and umbrella for a chill day. read more

Great spot for beach side sunrise and/or sunset. It's easy to spot the wall, and simple enough to either park yourself along it's side or stroll down to the end. I was there around 7am for sunrise and it wasn't at all crowded. It's also a rather peaceful spot at that time as most noisy folk have either yet to awake or arrive. Definitely recommend adding it to your Oahu experience. read more

This wouldn't be considered my "favorite" beach on Oahu, however it is an actual great beach to take visitors to. Whenever I have friends in town, I bring them here as it's conveniently located to many restaurants and shops. Also, my visitors love to walk on the wall and my kids love to jump off it! Parking can be tricky, but I find that parking in the Zoo lot to be the most reasonably priced place to park. You can even add time to your meter with your cell phone. Many enjoyable beach days were spent here & my family can't wait to head here again! read more

It's Hawaii! The location and the beach is beautiful. This location was very close to our hotel and being so closed to the beach was fantastic. That being said the homeless camps and aggressive panhandling was very prevalent. I spent more time watching over my kids and watching the movements of the homeless than I should have on a public beach. It was very clear that the homeless were not present to "enjoy the public beach" and they were very much a nuisance to the safety and enjoyment of the general public. The amount of trash and cigarettes around their camps on a "no smoking beach" was really tragic. I understand less fortunate, but this does not mean that we have to tolerate sheer nuisance, aggressive panhandling, and fearing for our family safety while in Hawaii at the beach. I decided not to add pictures to this thread but it was really unexpected in a tourist area. read more

Waikiki beach , Kuhio beach,Queen beach and Kapiolani beach are all in a row. it depends on what your looking for at the beach. More waves and watching surfers with a little steeper entry that's Waikiki. easier entry with just a few waves, the Kuhio is for you. Queens beach is mostly enclosed by a break wall so it is shallow with no waves, easy entry and perfect for kids. Kapiolani beach park has restrooms, shady areas with picnic benches but much higher surf and steeper entry. Your choice! read more

A quick Google Search confirms it. The place we grew up in Hawaii calling Walls is called walls and yes, it does have a website haha more like a pretty well-documented web presence! So instead of reinventing the wheel, I'll list some pointers and let the info speak for itself. This is a well-maintained and beautiful but ***busy*** sunset-watching spot, and one of my fav stops when I jog/walk Kapiolani Park. Grab a spot on or next to the wall for a view. The left is definitely less busy than the right. Don't forget to check the calendar for sunset movies at the beach (here: http://www.waikikiimprovement.com/waikiki-calendar-of-events/sunset-on-the-beach) Sunrise isn't so great since Diamond Head blocks it but you can always trek a ways to the left to one of the lookouts along the back of Diamond Head (my choice: Kuilei Cliffs). Parking is mainly street along the Zoo and Kapiolani Park. Some spaces near the Waikiki Bandstand and Aquarium are free but beware it may take a bit to find a space especially during peak sunset or weekend times. I get a homesick feeling about the Waikiki Walls. I lived in Hawaii in the early sixties and my favorite place to hang out, or go bodysurfing . I visited with family in 2005 and 2008 and the wall was still there to chill. and to watch all the antics of the jumpers and the surfing, and the sunsets. Beach at Waikiki... what else do you need to say. Great beach with all the activities around it. Beautiful waves and sunset. Not my favorite beach in Hawaii for the following reasons: 1) rocky bottom - bring you surf shoes. Really can't walk out too far without them and 2) "tick" sand - I call it "tick" stand because once it gets on you.... it sticks! I was picking sand off me for a couple of days.... even after showering and rinsing off. Overall though... I think this is one of the more "happening" beaches. Great time! read more
