Really not sure what other reviewers are talking about....
Most Disgusting Management Award to Waitrose Greenwich.
Waitrose Greenwich.
Simply put, the most arrogant, condescending, prissy, rude and self concerned managers I have ever encountered.
I am sadly aware of the elitist attitude of both managerial staff and many of the Waitrose clientele, but even with that in mind, the dire attitude of management in Greenwich Waitrose is almost spellbinding in their ineptitude, ignorance and grandiose self importance.
Utterly appalling and sadly increasingly infecting many of their staff.
While I admire anyone who works, irrespective of their employment, may I take this opportunity to remind Greenwich Waitrose managers that all you actually do is, very ineffectually, look after a corner shop.
From the shaven headed, sprayed-on-estate-agent-suit wearing, retentive who swans around with his nose so high in the air he must be navigating the store via the stars somehow; to the bizarrely behaving, very short slick haired anomaly who when I was being served very helpfully by a young member of staff, strode over, and deliberately, discourteously and pointedly looked me up and down before stating, not asking, 'You want something', I really have never encountered such incompetent, vile arrogance in retail before, anywhere.
I will say it again, Greenwich Waitrose managers, you look after a corner shop (badly).
Treat your customers with respect, manners, politeness and at least the hint of service.
Do not, ever, look down on, speak rudely to, ignore or refuse to move out of the way of your customers ever again. All of these things all managers at Greenwich not just these two, do all the time.
After the above individual left, I asked the young server, 'Are all your managers really this arrogant and rude all the time - I don't expect you to answer and put yourself in trouble?'. She replied honestly, as follows: 'You are not the first to mention this and I can only apologise, I can't believe he speaks and looks at customers the way he just did with you. Most of our managers are odd and disrespect us as well as the customers. I don't understand it and it creates problems with how some staff act too. I'm really sorry'.
I told her she did not need to apologise for them nor accept being treated in the same manner and thanked her for her politeness and fantastic service despite what her workplace presented her with.
Visiting Greenwich Waitrose is an horrific experience frequently, from customers being allowed to have their children riding around on bicycles and behaving with an insidious air of entitlement, to the overall feeling of conceitedness, unfriendliness and condescension (from customers, all managers and sadly increasing numbers of young staff). The clearly despondent and perhaps understandably uncaring element of some of the work force - restocking shelves and tutting, huffing, raising their eyes should you try to access products near where they are working or ask them to move, or try to navigate around the crates and boxes they clearly couldn't care less where they place in the aisles - it is a wholly unholy and deeply unpleasant experience.
I can not justify supporting such an organisation with my loyalty when met with such disrespect and unpleasantness from stuck up customers and mangers, and elements of young staff who seem to be soaking up every negative from their Waitrose employment education (a significant minority are outstanding and should actually be in charge).
You do not deserve my loyalty, composure, politeness, respect, tolerance or money.
I will use my fortunate position to ensure Greenwich Waitrose in particular continues to be highlighted as the interminable stubborn stain of retail hell that it and it's management gleefully present.
One more time, 'managers', you are not deities, intellectual elite, superhuman, royalty or special in any positive way - you look after a corner shop.
Do it properly you appalling creatures, you really are godawful. read more
