They've done a great job of adequately challenging my kids. Some teachers are great proactive communicators, others not so much, but all have been great at responding to emails whenever I've needed anything. They also make sure the kids have adequate physical activity, though some of my friend's kids have had teachers who take away PE privileges when classes are unruly during teaching time which I disagree with strongly. The only things I'd change are I think a second language should be part of specials for all kids and I think SCPS food choice could be healthier with less junk food extras for sale. The carline could also be better and the fence around the property is rusty and in need of being replaced. PTA is also pretty active which is wonderful!

They make parents wait in a small library, take your student for…read morean hour-long assessment that over the phone was described by Admissions Director Megan Jones as to see how they interact with other students. Come to find out (after several emails requesting to know more about their request for a SECOND assessment), they are very critical of your child. Preschool Director Betsey Vallery states in her email to me: "[Student] was very interested in the items in our classroom and such a sweet little boy. He did have difficulty following teacher one-step instructions and redirection. For example, when the teacher called [Student] to small group to draw, he ran around the carpet area. The teacher came alongside him and told him to please use his walking feet and modeled her walking feet. This gentle redirection is usually very successful as it's 1:1 in this assessment setting, but he continued to run." [Student] had just turned four only three days prior to the assessment. He's extremely responsive with adult direction, and I find this commentary completely inappropriate. As a former teacher myself, this is not even something that should be a concern. In addition, she states that [Student] didn't know how to write name, draw a self portrait, count to 10 or identify shapes, all of which he's been able to do for more than a year. I wasn't there in the assessment, but I do wonder about the effectiveness of the teacher to inspire participation. I felt that this was not an age-appropriate Pre-K. They want students that already know what they need to know for kindergarten so they don't have to do their jobs in teaching them.

The school brought a love and desire for learning to our child. Our daughter was very shy and struggled to communicate with anyone she didn't associate with on a constant basis and she would cry and hide if she was made the center of attention. The school's natural environment is encouraging children to come out of their shells. It's been an amazing transformation to watch her grow in confidence and learn to love doing something even if people are watching. At our daughter's first parent/teacher meeting the director/primary teacher said "She may never want to get up in front of a group and talk or perform but we will give her tools to use to be able to do it." We watched our daughter dread getting up in front of other to now excited to show off what she enjoys. It's been a beautiful transformation. I've never seen an environment where so many children of all ages love one another so much. The older kids look out for the younger ones and set an example that is exemplary. I feel so at ease that my child is getting good influences from her peers. Her classmates are encouraging to one another and rally to help a classmate in need and cheer them on The teachers and staff truly care about what's best for your child to make sure they are getting what they need and are progressing in their curriculum. They put emphasis on the process of a task over just completing it, so our daughter feels pride doing the steps that lead to the completion of the task just as much as feeling the joy of finishing something. I love that our daughter will have the same teachers for multiple years, I feel this will be invaluable to her growth because they know her and know what her capabilities are. I also love that she gets plenty of one on one time with the teachers as well. Everyone is great at communication if you reach out to them or need something, which is amazing because there is a clear and open dialog for whatever your questions or needs may be. Overall we think its a wonderful school and as a parent you can be as involved as you want to be with the many special events the parent's put on for the children. The existing parents are very welcoming to the new parents.

Social bridges school was changed to willow school of winter springs several years ago. Willow…read moreschool is an amazing school and they still use integrated services with social ridges. However the name of the institute did change and social ridges while they provide services to the entire school on Wednesday, they are their own entity now and are not located on campus. Let it be noted however that the social bridges program is outstanding for children in the need of appropriate social interaction and training. My son attends with Willow school and participates in social bridges. Let me tell you something, this kid is one of the most polite and in control of their emotions then any other kid I've seen including my other two. Social bridges focuses on not only appropriate social behavior, but dealing with things like anxiety anger and frustration with or rather by providing them coping skills to do so. I'm a big fan of social bridges and if they could integrate something like this and to public school that would be downright amazing. $15,000 intuition... For goodness sake I hope social Bridges is included! But you can't put a price on peace of mind for your child.
