And, of course, the library has a wonderful collection of books, movies, newspapers, magazines and streaming services. The staff has always been kind, courteous and helpful. Unfortunately, because of city cutbacks, the library has been unable to reopen on Sundays and Mondays. The library is my favorite building in the entire county and I encourage everyone to check out (forgive the pun) this gem.

She was nice enough though for my friends and I to peruse the books, and for me to take some pictures. I remember, not too long ago, when my husband and I got library cards. They were still typed on a regular library card. They too have come in to the technological community now so I would need a bar code if I wanted to borrow a book. It's not the largest, most exciting town you could choose to stay at on the Oregon Coast, but maybe that is part of the appeal. It has a few shops, restaurants, one bar, and a beautiful view and beach on the bay. But there's not much more than that. It doesn't have any of the "attractions" that usually bring people to the coast, but it's sort of in the middle of it. If you stay at Waldport you are in between other beach towns, and if you are going to try and visit as much as possible during your stay, it's actually not a terrible location to choose, as long as you are okay with having to drive. If you want to have a lot of options of places to walk, maybe it's not the best choice, because you can walk the town in a day. Even though I've been able to stay here for a couple months at a time before, I still never feel like I am here long enough. I never actually want to leave. The locals are always friendly with me and I've met some of the most interesting people just passing through. I think the people I've met are the biggest appeal to me, and I always have a good time. It probably goes without saying... but I love Waldport and I know I will be back. I can't imagine staying anywhere else on the coast.

One man in particular who works there spoke in full voice and was just having a grand old time, all the time, and no amount of earplugs or distancing myself from the checkout counter was ever enough. I'm positive that the people he interacted with appreciated his energy and enthusiasm and liked being made to feel welcome but I eventually gave up and made the drive to Newport every time I needed to be able to really concentrate. Otherwise, it's a bright and cheerful place and I'd happily recommend it. To anyone who is NOT looking for a traditional library atmosphere.

I do not mean to denigrate the Salem library, but the new books shelf at the Albany library is MUCH more interesting. I read voraciously, but Albany is sourcing titles which have completely escaped my attention--and that of big-name book lists. The same discrimination is being shown in the little store run by the Friends of the library. Their shelves used to be blah, but are now always worth a look.

Loving this little library more and more. There are always a half dozen books in the new releases…read morethat I'm interested in and new movies coming in every week. Though it's a small library, there's a great selection of fiction, mystery and western. The non-fiction section is eclectic with a lot of old donated books -- which have their own special appeal-- mixed in with the latest and most cutting edge subjects, like learning all about Raspberry Pi. There are four computers which are in constant use but are limited to one hour. Headphones are provided. There are two more computers in the kids' room with small chairs and desks. Four tables with chairs run down the middle of the library with natural light and a view outside. And you can easily find a stool to stand on anytime you can't reach a book! The kids' reading/play room is pretty fantastic. Dozens of new books are displayed for busy moms and dads who know at a glance exactly what their kids have and don't have. Teachers make good use of the children's library, too. There are DVDs and audiobooks, fiction, non-fiction, picture books, chapter books, and classics. With a very impressive young adult section outside the kids' room, well complimented by graphic novels, there are no excuses for not reading!
