First, the pharmacists were incredibly helpful and patient with my seven year old. She was prescribed a medication that only comes in pill form and was very nervous about swallowing pills. Both pharmacists took extra time to put her--and me--at ease. The daytime pharmacist offered a tip for swallowing a pill using a straw. The pharmacist on the evening shift showed my daughter several different options for the medication, made by different manufacturers. The ability to choose the pill gave her a sense of control, which made the daunting process feel a bit easier. The second praise-worthy encounter occurred this evening. My 3 year old was diagnosed with a double ear infection at urgent care and was prescribed an antibiotic. The prescription was called in ten minutes before the pharmacy closed and I knew we wouldn't arrive until just after closing. I called Walgreens and explained our situation. The pharmacy tech--with the pharmacist's blessing-- kindly offered to fill the prescription and stay a few minutes after her shift ended to wait for us. I wish I had caught her name, but I was so overcome by gratitude and relief it slipped my mind to ask. On the way home, I explained to my daughter what she has done. After it sunk in, my daughter told me that when she was a grown up, she would stay late at her work to help someone, too. Thank you to the Walgreens pharmacy staff for your expertise AND for being such good human beings! Our community is lucky to have you!

Once inside, the store isn't big, but you can see where everything is at a glance. I intended to visit the pharmacy. The place to check in for vaccinations was clearly marked. A few of the…read moreemployees do genuinely try; however, it's a craps shoot if you're going to have an acceptable experiece (I've never had anything beyond acceptable), complete apathy, or abject rudeness from the employee. The pharmacy staff tend to be worse than the front end staff, but both are often so far below par that sub par would be a compliment. Past experiences have included having to complete the same forms multiple times because they misplace them, failing to following up on refill and transfer requests, and my favorite refusing to resubmit insurance requests when they make mistakes without cancelling the filled drugs and waiting for a new fill. Add this with the experience today where a cashier opens a new register lane at the photo department so it's unclear to the first person in line of she's open for customers or doing work, then not saying anything but helping a guy who just walks up ignoring me who had been waiting in line for a couple minutes and then chatting him up instead of working to clear out the line!
