One of the few positives of pandemic times was that parking in San Francisco was much easier. My dentist was closed for a while, but when she finally opened back up, I still wasn't taking Muni regularly again, and many of the lines were still suspended, including the one I usually took to the dentist. So I started driving. It was still more difficult than it needed to be to find parking, which means that in normal times, it must be nigh impossible. In any case, I think I drove to the dentist three or four times before braving the bus back, and sometimes I had to park all the way in Japantown. (My dentist's office is off of Van Ness.) Walking from my car to my appointment, I was very aware of this place's hidden (protected?) little parking lot, so I made sure to stop by after having my teeth cleaned. It did, indeed, have a little parking lot, but it was designed very poorly and could require lots of backing up and turning and backing up again. This poor Walgreens. I don't care about the corporation itself, but its workers had to deal with a lot. On the three occasions I came (one of them totally unrelated to my dentist visit), they were always either shooing shoplifters out or trying to explain why the photo counter was closed or calling the police to deal with unruly and/or insane people loitering in the aisles. They really tried to make a go of it; they did. The employees, not the corporation. Again, I don't care about the corporation, but these people either valued their jobs or believed in putting in a hard day's work or both, because they just tried so hard to do things the right way. They didn't allow line-cutters to intimidate or sweet-talk them, and they didn't suffer fools--or at least they tried their darndest not to suffer fools. The cooler always seemed to be running out of diet soda, which is my main complaint. And yes, you can bet I seriously considered parking in the lot, buying something from the store, and then going to the dentist, but I'm pretty sure they would have towed me. Now that it's gone, I guess we'll never know. read more

Terrible customer service! This is the last time I will visit this location. You have lost a customer. I will take my business to a different store! With the crime and crap that is going on in San Francisco, I understand why some customer service representatives, can present an attitude! However, you should still practice proper etiquette when dealing with customers! So here is the "latest skinny." I went in to the store and I asked one of the employees, if they knew where to find Q tips, so he said to me "in the back." So I was searching for the Q tips and I said "I cannot find the Qtips." So he said to me in a very nasty condensing manner "It's in the back do you understand?" He treated me, like I was a person that did not understand, what the English language consist of! I felt insulted and said to him, sir I understand English perfectly well." Now if you would have said to me "hey the Qtips are in the back of the store and make a left turn, that would have been clear instructions! So I said to him, you need to be careful how you speak to people! I did not want to create a scene due to his ignorance and I told the manager, "I am walking away, this is terrible customer service! This place gets a thumbs down from me! Shame on you Walgreens for treating people in a condensing manner! read more

While in line at the pharmacy a man wearing what looked like only a blanket and shoes, began picking and scratching at his legs and arms and body while lice and other things just dropped on the ground. This guy just dropped half his disease at the counter. I left and changed my pharmacy preference, but had to call my doctors because of transfer issues. During the same encounter two other nut jobs were keeping the security guy busy, who by the way, does not earn enough for the job he does. If you can't keep this kind of thing from impacting your medical practice, just close. After watching this "gentleman" pick at his body at the pharmacy counter, I can't look at it as a place of health. read more

The pharmacy is consistently either mistaken or dishonest about whether they've received your prescriptions, either of which is unacceptable. This should not be regularly happening. Receiving prescriptions and filling them is 90% of the entire purpose of the pharmacy. Some of the pharmacists are nice, but many are very rude. read more

Baskets are behind the counter. There's only one person working the cash registers: if you need a basket you have to wait for them to finish the sale and give you one. Why? "Because people would grab the basket and fill it and steal things." So now we all have to pay, because this billion-dollar business won't hire security guards. Shop into your reusable bag when you come here. Yes, you'll look like a shoplifter, but what other choice do you have? This store's business decisions put shoppers on the same level as thieves. I have been a customer of this Walgreens's for over 20 years. While it pains me to give this type of review during COVID, think it is necessary. The pharmacy continues to mess up on my prescriptions. To make a bad situation worse, they are rude and usually unwilling to rectify their errors. They used to have a lovely pharmacist and staff. This Walgreens is less than a block from my place... I refill my clipper card here really easy and convenient to stop in after work and only a few steps out of my way. I used to go there when I lived in San Francisco, and it was a straightforward place, never any issues. Now I see it on the national news as a sign of San Francisco's demise due to satanic city and state government laws that allow people to steal so groups of criminals from outside of San Francisco steal from there and the customers and employees suffer the consequences. Very sad to see the most beautiful and one of the most efficient cities in the country turn into a hell hole. Just a block away a guy moving there from England got stabbed to death in front of his niece because he wouldn't would give his fanny pack up to a criminal; of course they didn't find the criminal even though they had it on video. read more

This Walgreens doesn't get a lot of love. It doesn't have many reviews. It's hidden under the shadows of tall condos. It doesn't even have any windows. But somehow I've found myself wandering in while waiting for the 38 off Van Ness. It's where I picked up my first Clipper Card. It's also where the clerks live on the edge. I've previously had good service here so I don't know what's happened recently, but I've been disappointed and seriously inconvenienced multiple times lately. Three prescriptions in a row have had serious issues, two of which delayed pickup significantly and one of which cost me $52. I'm lucky none of these prescriptions are life-saving medications, but they certainly affect my quality of life! For the $52 prescription, it was not covered by my insurer and was handed to me without comment. I can't tell if something is or isn't covered by the price since I have a high-deductible insurance. Well, I walked out of the store, trusting that I'd been taken care of, and only noticed the "not covered" print after I got home. Walgreens does not refund prescriptions. I made 2 trips back to try to get it taken care of -- once on a weekend when I was told only a manager could handle it on a weekday, and again on a weekday, but the manager was out. So this has to wait until my next day off, when I will gamble that the manager is in -- again! If I can't get this straightened out, that's over $52 I'm out for a prescription that I'm sure has a covered alternate and I'm $52 further from meeting my deductible. When another prescription -- prescribed on Thursday -- was delayed because they're out of part of it, I was not text messaged or called. I found out when I checked the app today, and called the pharmacy. I found out they won't be able to fill it until the rest of the pills get delivered on Monday, and it can't be transferred to another Walgreens because it's a controlled substance. This was the last straw and I immediately started the process to transfer all of my other medications to another pharmacy. If I have a better experience there, I will be inviting everyone l care about to switch away from Walgreens (or at least this particular Walgreens) because even though everyone there is nice, there's something going on with their computers, or they're being given more work than they can reasonably do, or something else is happening behind the scenes to drastically decrease their quality. I'm hoping that all of the good feedback I've heard about Alto Pharmacy is true because I don't have the time to keep dealing with this nonsense. read more

This is a nice Walgreens located on the corner of Post and Franklin streets. The store has two convenient drive-ways to enter and leave. There is this strange trellis-like adornment on the Franklin Street drive-way btw. Inside, I find the store to be clean, non-ghetto, non-druggies, non-urinesmelling, staffed with friendly peeps, and wide aisles for you to roam. On my last visit, I bought some lubricant eye drops, and some Reisen's Chocolate Chews. 3-Stars! read more

I guess I was spoiled by all the Walgreens near Union Square and the Westfield mall near the Moscone Center. This one just didn't cut it for me. Their selection of prepped foods were minimal and the employees were just "ok." Another big thing that was disappointing was the fact that they were closing at 10PM on the day we stopped by and it was a weekend day. I thought Walgreens were 24/7 or at least stayed open until midnight? I don't think it was a bad area of town either so I'm just not quite sure why they close so early but at least you know now! This review is for they pharmacy. Are you F**King kidding me. Some of the worst, lazy, and inconsiderate employees. If you're close to closing (within 90 minutes) they say it's over an hr wait just to get you to leave. When you come back in an hr, they still haven't prepared your prescription, so they were obviously just lying. It's constantly a struggle. You call in, it's still never ready. You show up, it's guaranteed that the pharmacist is "on lunch". You do everything possible to give them the benefit of the doubt and make it easy for them to succeed..... And it's just complete failure. That's for 90% of the staff. There is one gentleman behind the counter who is always fast, friendly, considerate, and will go out of his way to make your experience pleasant. Haven't seen him around much recently.... Wish we had his schedule as he's the only worthwhile person in this whole place. read more

Good Walgreens - well-stocked, friendly service, and never a long wait. I come here for the usual snacks and beverages - some pop chips, red bull, partyAID, and chocolates. I also discovered they have some decent red velvet cupcakes, but they go pretty quickly - so if their in stock, try them out! Some random, but useful items they have - 10 pairs of socks for $5, cough medicine - always a plus, and tea. We went this store for our baby's passport photo yesterday. Jessica was so patient to help us calm our baby, since he was so upset and refused to sit on stroller. Staff is awesome but this branch is scary. I just witnessed a robbery around 5PM and the employees had to stop him from getting out to avoid stealing items. Walgreens should put a security guard in front of the door so the employees won't have to suffer if the homeless people try to rob this branch. Plus they'll avoid having additional losses. I feel bad for the great employees who work here. I love shopping here but now I'm scared to go back to this branch because of what I saw. read more

I have a formal complaint on a Walgreen manager. I believe he is a manager of the store because I witnessed him telling another Walgreens employee what to do. The Franklin Store has been my Walgreens for the past 7 years that I've lived in San Francisco and this is not the first time I've had an unpleasant experience with the man. He is an older Asian Male with grey hair and heavy wrinkles in his face with sagging features with discoloration in skin like sun spots. I am describing him since I did not get his employee number on his badge but I will the next time I am in the store. This morning I went to the store like how I do every Saturday to pick my necessities, this time I had a need to exchange a $5 dollar bill for quarters because the laundromat 1 block away had a fire incident this past week and it was closed for repair. I went to the cashier with two $5 dollar bills ($10 total) in hopes to get quarters for laundry, this elder asian man tells me to move aside so he come ring up another customer first before assisting me. Fortunately the cashier ahead of me freed up and he proceeds to help me with my request grabbing a bunch of quarters from the cash register and tells me he can only give me $5 in quarters not $10, (I see the quarters in his hand) I understand and accept. The elderly Asian man proceeds to speak loudly to the other employee and me at the same time to say that the store can only give a dollar or two but not $5 dollar. I am staring at the employee helping me and he slowly starts to retract his hand back to the cash register. Then I respond 'ok, you said a dollar or two right?, so please give me just a dollar or two.' The elder Asian man interrupts once again and continues to ramble on saying the store just doesn't have quarters to give out and continues to speak to me loudly and giving me reasons why they cannot give me any quarters at all in exchange for my $5 dollar bill. This was all very unpleasant experience and it is not the first time I had to interact with this man over the years. I feel it necessary to have it on record since I believe I am not the first to have encountered such an experience. I'd love for a response from Walgreen on this. If an employee ID is required, I will get this information next time I am in the store. read more

This review is for the pharmacy. Couldn't agree more with Ryan F. There is one guy who works here who's courteous and tries to make things better, but he is definitely the only exception. I finally realized their horrendous customer "service" was never going to improve, came to my senses, and transferred my prescriptions to the Walgreens on Polk & California. Even though that location is a few blocks farther from my house and there's no parking lot. Filling prescriptions here was consistently, nothing short of a horrible experience. My doctor would call/fax in a prescription, I'd walk over to the pharmacy and nearly every time, they'd claim they hadn't received it. Ask for a time when it WOULD be available, it never was ready and I'd have to wait (and could SEE them scrambling to fill it as I waited). It's annoying that they don't staff the pharmacy with a pharmacist all day on weekends, rendering the rest of the pharmacy staff unable to do basically ANYTHING for 30-40 minutes, but supposedly it's state law. Whatever. Even if I was just picking up a refill of a medication I'd already been prescribed in the past, I HAD to wait for the pharmacist to return, (btw, I've NEVER encountered this at any other pharmacy). I noted the times they stated the pharmacist would be on lunch and would plan my arrival before/after. However, on several occasions I'd show up and the pharmacist would be "on a break", so I'd have to take a seat and wait some more. One of the pharmacy staff in particular, I think her name is Theresa, is unbelievably rude, and condescending. I cannot even find the words to describe how awfully she treats customers. I honestly don't understand how she is employed. While this location has recently been remodeled, has a generous parking lot and rarely any people waiting outside begging for money or loitering looking suspicious, it truly is not worth dealing with the incompetence behind the pharmacy counter here. read more

This seems to be the worst Walgreens. And just my luck, it happens to be the closest one to me. They get one extra star due to their proximity/convenience factor and for the few times I've been able to waltz in and out with no hold ups. But for the other 90% of the time, I've had to wait in a line that stretches down an aisle for a cashier. Everyone's agitated, and you end up getting into altercations with other customers about who was in line and who wasn't. This location also has less stock of items compared to other Walgreens. I got stuck at the Chinese Embassy trying to get a visa for my sister-in-law (who can't leave work during business hours). The photo my SIL had given me wasn't the right size. Argh. Because this Walgreens is near the Chinese Embassy, they knew exactly how big the photo needed to be and even have a little cutter for it. Everyone was very helpful. I never saw the point in yelping about Walgreens before but since today i was at the one on Polk and California and they did not have anything I needed (and I use just normal stuff, nothing outrageous), I went to the one on Franklin and Post and saw what big differences there can be between one store management and another. read more
