This was our first time working with a rescue, so the whole process was new to us. We filled out a lengthy application online, but didn't mind as you could tell they were truly vetting the homes that the animals were going to. At that time, we noted that we were interested specifically in Max. The following weekend they had a meet and greet event at a Minneapolis pet store, so our family went there to meet him and his current Foster Mom. They both turned out to be wonderful! The next step was to have volunteers come out to our home to make sure we were providing what we promised (single family home/fenced yard, safe and clean place for him to grow and thrive). At that meeting, they went over the specifics of his adoption, including their requirement of a first right of refusal (if he didn't work out, we would reach back out to them before placing him in another home). We also agreed that we would never use a shock collar on him. Shortly thereafter, we connected with the Foster Mom via email to discuss a time to pick him up, what he was currently eating and how much, and what items he would be sent "home" with. I picked him up along with his vet documents from Mexico and also after he arrived in the U.S. Max continues to be an amazing dog. He does have some medical issues, but those weren't diagnosed until a while after we brought him home, and I don't know how the rescue could have known. I chalk the issues up to a likely combination of genetics, and possibly poor diet and traumatic events before he was rescued. We absolutely couldn't be happier with our adoption. I highly recommend this organization, and also love all the other programs they offer as well.

The PPR people were helpful and the adoption process went smoothly even though it was hella packed that day at Urbanimal. I do think it would be better if the foster parents came to the adoption events. I didn't want to wait to adopt my kitty, so I didn't get a chance to speak with her caretakers. It would have been helpful to know that she is not as social as she first seemed, and that she has a noisiness problem.
