They have jewellery from local designers and do a good job of promoting this fact, with the pieces organised by who created them, and with a profile of the artist on display. I was particularly taken with some stuff by John Walters, who makes intricately detailed pop-culture icons out of silver. They also have a good range of goth stuff (skulls, scorpions, those weird pointy finger-armour things that Marilyn Manson wears sometimes) which didn't appeal to me but no doubt will to some people. The prices range, so although you'll pay quite a bit if you want a big piece, you can get smaller things like earrings for less than thirty bucks. The lady behind the counter was friendly, and was happy to let us try anything on if we wanted.

If you are into quirky or tribal style jewellery you will definitely find it here, everything is displayed with similar styles so you can walk around the store, find what style suits you and then browse to your hearts content. Parking can be hard on Ponsonby Rd but there are street parks outside as well as some side roads nearby.

Royal Jewellery Studio is located in the old Royal Theatre building. It's a beautiful piece of…read morearchitecture and a fitting place for incredible bespoke NZ-made jewellery. If I'm honest many of the incredible pieces here are far outside my budget, but it doesn't stop me from stopping in a couple of times a month to see the interesting new things they have. It's as much an art gallery as it is a shop. Benjamin Flynn, who runs the place, has some amazing rings on display and there are dozens of other local artists with new stuff coming in all the time. Ditch the horrible jewellery chains and see where it's really at.
