WLE is great well run community in NEPA.. The BOD maintains excellent communication with the property owners and the amenities are impressive with three pools (1 indoors), rec. buildings, ball fields, marina on the big lake, central sewer and water, garbage dump and recycling. There are many events planned by the rec committee and most homeowners maintain their property nicely.The BOD is constantly looking for ways to improve the community while trying to keep dues assessment low. Good experience until our last five minutes. We were dropping off our garbage at the community dumpster on the way out. My brother in law was walking back to the van so we could head to our next destination when he was stopped by security. Security asked for his id and said he needed to check the tags. Keep in mind this is private community security and not local police. My wife who rented the vrbo we stayed at then got out of the van to try to explain to security that our van was a rental because it seems the reason security was harassing my brother in law was supposedly we needed a permanent community sticker. The guard said the reason why we didnt have a sticker did not matter and he was going to have to write us a citation. My wife gave him the address of vrbo and he claimed there was no way for him to verify we were renting the vrbo. I would also like to mention security was shaking,loud, and agitated from the start. At this time I wll also state that I am a white male, my brother in law is black, and my wife is afro latina. I would love to be able to say it didnt seem racially motivated but the whole situation is very surreal otherwise. My brother in law couldnt stop talking about the fact that this was his first perceived racially charged experience in his thirty year life. The security also seemed like someone who always wanted to be a cop, wasnt able to for whatever reason, and this job was his opportunity to relish some display of power. Im not sure if people should just be aware of security because they are on a power trip or if mixed populations / people of color should avoid this place. Great community until the "security" writes your nephew a ticket for parking a golf cart at the top of the steps of the dock so he can help carry your disabled sisters chair, and help her up the steps to get back to the cart. Wouldn't even have a conversation to evaluate the situation. Left a bad taste in our mouth and definitely will not be returning. Also, he blocked the cart in so they couldn't even try to move it. Hope the security guy got a little boost of testosterone though, he definitely needed it. read more

Beautiful clean friendly lake community! My fiancés parents have a house here and we love coming to visit. Such a peaceful environment. Everyone here rides on golf carts for the most part since the roads are kinda small it's just easier to get around. Riding around in the morning is so serene and pretty to drive by all the beautiful lakes. Everyone is super nice and always waives to you driving by. They have a couple main lakes and then some smaller beaches and pools. They have an adult lodge which has shuffle board, pool, darts and board games. You can come bring your beer and hangout and no one bothers you. You can bring your booze to the pools and lakes as well, it's very laid back here. There's so much outdoor activities to do such as fishing, swimming, boating, tennis, volleyball and more. I think you have to have a permit and wait for a dock spot for people with larger boats but it's usually easier to get a canoe/paddle boat spot come the spring. My favorite place to unwind close to the action of casinos camel back and shopping but yet far enough to take a break

Agree with Mike S. I had a house built in WLE about 7 years ago and have just grown to love it even more. Annual dues (assessed quarterly) haven't increased substantially (hovering around $1,650 right now) and, for that, you and your family/guests have unlimited access to three large community pools (two outdoor, one indoor), a gym, three private beaches, several tennis courts, a game room, baseball and soccer fields, plus much more. The Board is always sponsoring a community event and everyone (employees and residents) is helpful and friendly. Dues also include 24/7 security, water, sewage, as well as onsite garbage and recycling collection. Residents also have use of the WLE marina on Lake Wallenpaupack for just around $450 per year (less than half the going rate of the areas' public marinas). Just note there's a three-year waiting list for a permanent boat slip, but weekend slip rentals are only $25 and a good compromise while waiting for your number to come up. The community is quiet, clean, well-managed and a great place for kids. After taking a class administered by WLE's security staff, children 12 years old and over are eligible for a golf-cart permit and can develop a little sense of independence. I used to find it odd to see people driving golf carts around, but you quickly get used to it. It actually makes a lot of sense - it's much safer for kids, reduces traffic congestion and is better for the environment. I can't recommend the development enough to anyone looking for a nice place to raise a family (education taxes are a little steep, so I assume the schools are good) or for an attractive place to buy a vacation home. The drive from New York City is just over two hours (without traffic) and, for that trip, you can find homes that sell for a fraction of what they'd go for near Candlewood or Greenwood lakes. Another nice thing about the location is that it provides a lot of great winter activities. WLE is in the heart of the Poconos, so there's tons of (beginner to mid-level) skiing options and it's not far from Hawley, Honesdale, Hamlin and Dickson City, so there's lots of local shopping so, while you're nestled in a lovely section of the woods, you're never far from civilization. read more

My family has had a home since 83 we know and love all the security guards especially rocky who was very friendly with my uncle...here as they know us this 4th of July my husband gave my daughter and I sparklers and everyone around the lake was blowing off fire works and this new guy I never seen came to our home and mean while things are blasting off which btw we enjoyed and he wanted to give us a $500 fine!!!!!for sparklers !!!thats not ok and my husband is a police officer and he said he hates police officers and has no respect for them !!that alone is a red flag for me fire him and get rid of him!!...that aside we didn't get the ticket but he's lucky my husband didn't call for his back up !!!! read more
