Whoever designed the window display is an artist as a scarecrow dressed in the most yummy butterfly halter-neck stands in a landscape of flowers. I entered in a trance like state and the lovely assistant Rebecca helpfully talked me through the stock. I loved the fact that they do not buy in bulk and you view each garment as a "piece" rather than simply clothes. Prices are moderate, slightly more than high street chains but you don't mind paying £60 for a unique Nood creation as opposed to £45 for a high street clone. Colours are bright and fabrics are great quality. Recognisable names such as Religion get into bed with new designer wares. This is no run of the mill ladieswear. A new range of gorgeous dove grey vintage inspired oilcloth bags and cute jewellery are also available to compliment your outfit. Open Monday to Saturday from 10.30am -6pm, Nood also opens its doors on a Sunday (12-5pm)- very handy for weekday nine to fivers. So did I buy the butterfly dress? This longevity is testament to the enduring talent of owner Alison, who has continually offered an eclectic mix of clothes, accessories and shoes from her own portfolio as well as interesting ranges from other designers like Religion, Gash and Get Cutie. It never feels stagnant in here, she keeps it fresh and all the accessories, bags and belts are so different to what you'd find on the high street. What I love most about this store though is it caters for every pocket. You can see why it has such a wide appeal.

The outfits sold here could easily be perceived as being a little tacky dare I say it. The collection I think this most applies to is the lace collection in pink and black. Basically, if you want to look like Cheryl Cole when the stylists have yanked her out of her tracksuit and onto the X Factor, Lipsy's a good bet. Prices range from the cheap n' cheerful to what might make your eyes water a little, but the sales are always really good here and it's nice to see Lipsy in its own store as opposed to a concession somewhere else. Also as my mother assured me many moons ago, Lipsy quality is pretty safe. Plus that all the time when I go out, I see all the girls dressed either from Lipsy, or Primark. They are both the same when it comes to sales, and I really don't get it. Is it because it's a fancy shop that sells dresses for quite a lot of money? Is it because girls today like to wear something horrible and full of colors? I don't get the idea. I went in there once, and I've noticed something that I like. They do size 6 which is great. But unfortunately I didn't find anything that I liked. So, I left the shop, while some of my friends tried and bought lots of new outfits. Oh well, I might be the one that doesn't understand what's to like.

So, that is indeed what I did and I found the experience to be a bit gloomy and dull. Most clothes are dark in nature and had a rugged texture to them, as though they were already worn. There is a men's section upstairs which sells quite similar clothing but again feels quite dismal and the price tags moderately high. However, if you're the type to go for clothes with a frilly, dull and/or worn out look then All Saints might be the shop for you. For me, it just isn't my style.

This particular branch has an excellent menswear department with many different vests, and the sales are nothing short of fantastic. I admire All Saints for its quirky design, really not many people can carry it off but it doesn't mean they don't try, and quite frankly I disagree with the idea that everything in the store only suits the long and lean. Different sets offer qualities for different figures, and All Saints has a knack for celebrating this. I'm truly a sucker for it. Just... go in sale period, save yourself from constant sharp intakes of breath.

Not only is this proof that I don't have the tendency to gain weight, it's also proof that Monsoon is a quality clothing store. If you're a fan of boho chic like myself, Monsoon will be right up your street. For high street clothing it can get a little pricey, but the sales are never disappointing. The children's clothing is simply adorable, in fact a good friend of mine who got married recently had three little flowergirls, all of whom wore Monsoon dresses. The reason I mention this particular branch is a) the King Street location (King Street tends to be quieter than the Arndale and thus makes for a more pleasant shopping experience) and b) the building in which it resides is very attractive. It might not be the largest of Manchester's Monsoon stores but I certainly think it's the prettiest. For hippy-esque looks with a sophisticated feel (which considering the kind of hippy I claimed to be as a teenager seems like something of a contradiction in terms) Monsoon is definitely your best bet.
