HIGHLY recommended. Just had the annual touch-up completed by Nick himself, very professional and good communication. Two years ago, we had the stair railings, the kitchen walls, and all of the kitchen cabinets painted by Matthew, also very professional and skilled. Our neighbors painted their cabinets with someone else about the same time (now they're chipping) and they told us they wish they'd gone with Walls by Design (no chips TWO YEARS later). Turns out Walls by Design pioneered and perfected their materials and technique using mobile painting booths where others either take over your garage (and make you park outside for a week or more) or they haul your doors back to their shop. This company got bit by losing interest or whatever it is that makes some companies go from great to there were better choices. They've become nearly impossible to schedule. When they show up for annual touch ups they are half hearted at best. What was the primary reason we choose them - the service and the touch ups - are gone. read more

Do NOT recommend. Owner of the company, Nick, is very rude and his painting is subpar. The original cabinet painting job was satisfactory (not completed by him). However, the "free yearly touch ups" is a TOTAL scam. If that perk is why you are choosing them, think again. Not only did he NOT touch up all of the spots of chipped paint, he proceeded to lecture me on the "type" of paint chipping that they will fix. He said that "long scratches" are not typically covered, and they really only fix small spots (which he didn't even do). THEN, he packed up to leave within 15min of starting, not even asking if the touch up was satisfactory or if he missed any spots. I asked if he was done, and he said "yup!". I told him that I didn't think it was a very good job and I was going to make a complaint, and he said "Well, I'm the owner, are you sure you want to do that??". Well, Nick, I'm quite sure, thanks for the warning though. All that that means is that unfortunately no progress or improvement will come of this complaint. But just maybe one potential customer will read this and think twice before using your company. Perhaps consider a little customer service class for yourself if you want to lead a company. Then consider a class on professionalism and respectfulness. Then, consider being up front when advertising your "free touch ups" and that only small scratches the size of a centimeter will be painted over, anything longer is not covered. Oh, please see attached pictures of just a SMALL portion of the areas that he did not paint before he left (please note that they are small in size, yet still missed by the so called leader of this company, who has painted hundreds of kitchen cabinets). Walls By Design just completed painting my kitchen, powder room, and master bathroom cabinets. I have been exceptionally pleased with the experience of working with them. From the start, they have communicated clearly and directly. There have been no surprises. Every person I have worked with has been friendly, professional, and competent. The process is very thorough, starting with an in home estimate, a color consultation, a meeting with the project manager, the carpenter, and finally the painters. I have enjoyed having every one of them in my home. A special shout out to the painters, Brian and Nick. They treated the project as if it were their own home. One thing I'd like to add: I asked every person who worked on the project "what would you do if this were your house"? Everyone answered the question and gave me their opinion. I really appreciate the concern and personal interest that everyone took in my project. The project is now complete and I have moved everything back into the cabinets and drawers. I love the completed look! My house is now refreshed and current. The price was reasonable. I chose WBD because close friends used them in two different houses. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!I am totally baffled by the positive reviews here. Stay away from these people...the owner is CROOKED. Here is why: 1.) They will bid low to get the job. 2.) You will be required to put 30% down, and sign a contract that is so long you probably won't read it. 3.) When they get to your house, they will tell you that you need additional coats of paint, in order for your job to be "complete". This will cost you hundreds or thousands of dollars (depending on the size of the job). 4.) If you try to dispute ANYTHING, they will charge you for the full amount of the job, whether it is complete or not. How do they get away with this? You signed a contract with them, that says NO REFUNDS AND NO CANCELLATIONS. So ...you have absolutely NO RECOURSE with these people, and if you are unsatisfied at all, their attitude it TOO DAMN BAD. read more

Unfortunately I am not able to review their workmanship as I have not heard back from them. I submitted a request, via their website, to set up an appointment for an estimate to have my kitchen cabinets painted...nothing. After 10 days with no response (yes, I checked my spam folder) I called the number on their website, left a message for a call back to schedule an appointment, nothing. If they're busy, I get it. If they're short-staffed, I get it. No acknowledgement of the two inquiries, I don't get it. Looking elsewhere as they obviously don't want the business. read more

Really don't understand the negative reviews! We got exactly what the Contract started; NO additional charges! Customer Service walked us through the entire process! Matthew was very professional, showed up wearing a Mask and got right to work! Took all the doors and draws from the kitchen and bath to his trailer..Painted all the frames by hand and didn't miss a beat - was finished in 3 days! Unfortunately we had a disappointing experience with Walls by Design. ONE, the price was much steeper than the other businesses we got quotes from but were recommended to go with Walls by Design, so we opted for the higher price counting on 100% satisfaction. TWO, the sanding of the doors was not throughout but only spot treatment, therefore if there's oil on the cabinets it will not be able to be seen now but in a year or two's time, the grease may reveal itself. THREE, timewise, there was no way possible that two coats of primer were applied to the doors. FOUR, the doors were not realigned after painting them so the handles were uneven (SEE PHOTOS) and were blamed and were told we had old cabinets.... hope you don't have old cabinets! FIVE, we asked if we could replace the hinges and were quoted an additional $700 expense to install them..... AFTER we had already ordered them. SIX, one of the doors no longer opens and lazy susan no longer works. We wish you the best of luck with your interaction with Walls By Design, but this was ours. read more

I never got to the point of hiring them because of 3 things: 1:Their contract requires a 30% DEPOSIT. ( When ANY contractor takes a deposit for a job that COSTS NOTHING in materials, theres a RED flag- they dont mention this at all during the consult but its in the fine print in the contract that must be signed to schedule job). 2.:They are about 100-130 percent higher than most other reputable, insured, recommended painters (Im giving walls by Design the benefit that they are in the same category I just mentioned) and 3: I just noticed they offer a 15 PLUS percent discount for "yelp members" which was never mentioned to me at my bid and now confirms that they have LOTS of room in their highly inflated prices. Why not just quote the best price you can at the start? I prefer to do business with FAIR, HARD WORKING people, like myself. Maybe these guys do a good job- I 'll never know. Im not impressed. I wound up going with a "personal", not "commercial" referral of a few homeowners and was very pleased with a thorough, fairly priced job, who didnt ask me for UPFRONT money for a job requiring no upfront materials! He even took the minimal "risk , if you call it that", of paying for my paints upfront. THAT is how a professional works. Be careful! read more

About a year ago my husband and I had Walls by Design come out and do an estimate. At the time we were still shopping around for paint contractors, but wanted to lock in the quoted price and 10% off they were giving as they were at the time a top choice. When I gave my credit card for the deposit of $1,500 over the phone the agreement was to hold the price only per the conversation with the owner's wife as she was aware the schedule was tentative and we weren't sure about the timing. At the time we were dealing with smoke damage in our home. Over the course of a year we just weren't ready as we are a really busy family and they continued to push us for the job. Recently, they had another estimator come out as the previous individual is no longer employed there. We thought OK, they need to do a re-estimate, but they came back and changed the quote to $2K higher. We found that absurd for the same work, and declined them to paint our home. The new estimator stated he thought he was giving us a better deal than our original price agreement. When I asked for our original deposit money back, they denied stating it was non-refundable per the contract. My issue is that we never signed the estimate, or a contract, as the verbal agreement was to hold the price. We didn't even know there was a contract (as an attachment) until they submitted the 2nd estimate (estimate does not state it will lock you in to a contract), again which we declined. Their invoice that was my receipt with the deposit amount has no indication in writing I was locked in to a non-refundable deposit, nor an attached contract. They have refused to return our refund, and the owner stated now it's "in my court". Finally after numerous attempts to get our deposit we filed a complaint with the BBB. As of today, it's been 20 days and they have not responded to resolve through that mediation. Yesterday, I finally got a phone call after almost a month trying to resolve with the owner from the office manager stating that they could only refund me 75% as they incurred costs per their accountant (and yet boasting on FB they moved offices). We are completely appalled their actions, and we are seeking our entire deposit back as they kept denying me 100% saying per the contract deposits are non-refundable, even after they could not produce any documentation that I signed. They seemed to be a very reputable company and we are now sharing our story to help others who may be looking for a contractor to be aware of these types of "invisible" contracts you could potentially not be aware of. It's a hard lesson and it's a bummer to fight so hard for my $1,500 back, but make sure you triple check everything before you give any money up front for no work or materials yet to be purchased. read more

We just used these folks for repainting of multiple rooms and painting and distressing of a bannister, handrails and a wooden fireplace mantle. The results were exceptional. You'll see in a previous review of mine that we had a poor experience with another commercial painting firm and Walls by Design corrected their mess in those two rooms. They clearly have an attention to detail and commitment to quality work. We weren't happy with one of the room colors after completion and they happily repainted it with a new color with great results. They take great effort to protect adjacent property and surfaces from incidental paint splatter and cleaned frequently to minimize their impact on our quality of life while they completed this mammoth job. My absolute only concern was that it took longer than they originally estimated but the final results were worth the added time. We found their fee to be very competitive and fair especially given their high quality of craftsmanship. We had no heartburn or concern in their required down payment to secure our job on their schedule. In fact, the down payment helped in budgeting for the remainder of the work. Their color recommendations prior to initiating the work was also a great help! If you need someone to throw paint up on your walls, I'm certain you could find a cheaper alternative. If you desire quality work with an attention to detail that will add value and beauty to your home then look no further than these folks. There had been miscommunication and misunderstanding regarding the timeframe and expectations by what was meant by a team/crew on our project. The PM did what he could to make it right but when we discussed the issue with the owner after the project was completed, he proceeded to talk to us as if we were the ones who had done something wrong. He never apologized for the misunderstanding or miscommunication, and went on to say that he gets irritated by customers who complain that projects take longer. He even admitted during the discussion that he's not "a friendly, compassionate or understanding business owner." Couldn't agree with him more on that and clearly he was missing the point around the miscommunication. Although the PM pulled in extra people to try and remedy it, the Owner still never apologized for any of it and even offered to "come over and strip the paint off of my cabinets." In the end, our cabinets are painted, and obviously it's the work by the painters that are saving this company. The Owner is rude, completely unprofessional and doesn't seem to understand customer service. We will not recommend this company to anyone we know. read more

I have waited 8 months to write this in order to try to calm down & not be as emotional about what happened. Nick was very professional when he came to give us an estimate on painting our entire interior for us to get ready to sell our home. We were both impressed & excited about the ideas he had. We paid the deposit, but also informed him that we would both be out of town during the job time. We trusted him. The 2nd day of the job Nick calls me and wants to know if we are painting the master bathroom the same color as the bedroom. I said yes. He said ok... He was just checking. It was odd, but I didn't think too much of it. UNTIL... My husband came home & found our bedroom the lovely pale gray/green we had chosen but our master bathroom was TERRA-COTTA!!! WHAT THE HELL??? Plus they took 3 days more than estimated to finish the initial job. But then the trouble got worse. I called Nick about the color & he acted like it was no big deal. M He would just have it repainted. So he sends a young guy that tells me has been with the company 3 wks! He had never painted before that! And boy did it show!!! I guess he thought we wouldn't notice the paint splatters on literally every surface of the bathroom & the HUGE paint splotches on the natural wood work & the light colored carpet!!! I called Nick and he said they would fix it, make it right and assured me we would be happy! I expect another painter. But it is the same inexperienced kid, who is pissed off at us at this point! So needless to say it wasn't fixed properly. Slapstick at best. But at that point my husband was done! We had paid to have the ceiling painted in there & it looks like there have been multiple paint jobs since it was painted! Ugh! And on a smaller note: there was a spot in the living room that appeared that a ladder leg went through it. They placed a box in front of it to hide it. When we mentioned it to Nick he said he would come patch it then paint it. Well it took 2 tries to get him there to patch it & then he never called to come back to paint it. We just happened to run into him shopping one day & he remembered he hadn't finished so he asked me to call his scheduler to get it done. Very unprofessional. Our other bathroom had a ton of splatters on toilet, counter tops, tub, & woodwork! Paint was smudged on wood floor where they staged the paint. (Who does that on a wood floor?). Paint was spattered on the cream colored carpet in many places. And I really don't like the color he advised me to use in the dining/living room. SO. After spending a large sum to have our house painted we are still scraping paint off & doing touch ups. Upset and deeply disappointed! Nick told me he was meeting with high end builders in Aspen. Builder & consumer beware!!!! Unprofessional!!! And poor workmanship!!! Artists maybe shouldn't be house painters! read more

Hired them to paint my kitchen cabinets. Owner of the company claimed to have honored the number of coats of paint I paid for, including a primer coat to cover the grain of the wood. You can still see the wood on areas of my cabinet doors and drawer faces where the wood is bare. There are drips on the cabinet doors and cabinet sufaces too. Asked him to come back and put another coat on and he wants to charge me. Messy painter too. I am still finding drips on my countertop and floor. Wanted to be paid, with a credit card ASAP. Finished the job on Friday and by Monday he was harassing me, via email for payment. Told me all his painters were artists, that was a lie, my painter was not an artist. Tried to work with him on this but he came back at me using examples of my profession and my husbands. Very inappropriate! Do not want to deal with the owner of this company any longer. Bad management and obviously the customer is never right according to him. Buyer beware of this one. read more
