If you are over 21 they have their beer cafe. You can even have 2 drinks in the cafe which I don't think is a good idea. They usually are stocked nice so you usually don't find empty shelves. Store is located just outside of Northumberland on Route 11, immediately next to the American Legion. Parking lot can get tight if the store is busy and it's built on a downhill slope, so unattended shopping carts can roll away. What will you find product wise? A decent fresh fruit/vegetable section. Frozen food section with a lot of discontinued products. Tons of canned good including bulk #10 cans. This location off season sells various fountain fireworks. They also have small kids toy selection. Compared to the Berwick store, this one feels like it has less stock in general. Why I knock a few stars off is you need to check expiration dates on EVERYTHING. No exceptions and at this store they are less well marked on items like cereal. Toiletries and other general pharmacy items are not competitively priced. Paper products have about the same quality as generic items at Dollar General (not great.) Overall, I like Surplus Outlet, and it's worth stopping in to see what they have.

I'm a fan of discount…read moregrocers over traditional grocery stores so finding one so close was a Godsend as we typically buy our food in the area we stay instead of bringing it from home. The store is spacious for a discount grocer and had a large section of beauty and health products, more so than others. Many were damaged packaging or expired but that's to be expected. What I didn't expect was such a large and impressive freezer and produce section. Had I had more room in our travel trailer camper I would have bought a ton more! Prices were low and the selection was very broad and fully stocked. Ditto for the produce which looked to be in very good condition and not "seconds". Since discount grocers tend to carry discontinued products I did find several items I'll probably never find again, but at least I enjoyed them once! The staff on the floor was also helpful in directing me to the dept I was looking for. The cashier however had the personality of a slug, and when hubby and I tried to engage in conversation with her she made eye contact but no response. Four stars because although they had a cart wipe station the wipes were completely dried out. A sign at the door insisted there would be no entry unless masked. However a big family with a ton of kids (all touching stuff and a muck around the store) ignored the mask rule and were allowed entry. Also when I tried to go back Sunday on our way home to stock up they were closed. No Sunday hours is a huge let down.

We've now discovered GiantDirect, and it is an absolute God-send for us, now that we are older and somewhat handicapped. My husband and I talk about it all the time, how we are SO GRATEFUL for this service. I must say, we DO obey their rules and park in the designated parking spots, and we have never had a problem. The worker comes running out and puts the bags in our trunk, and we don't even have to get out of the car! They are so nice and congenial, and they are very quick to bring the bags out. We wouldn't consider going anywhere else! Also, they don't have a minimum order requirement, as Walmart does, so that's another reason why we would always choose Giant, even if the items cost a little more. Weis, too, is closer to our house, eg, but they charge a fee for bringing the food out to the car, so we NEVER go there, and never will! No, Giant is a DREAM, and we love everything about it!

We usually overfill our cart with non-pershable pantry shelf items, detergent, and paper goods. We buy gift cards via mail for gifts for the holidays and afterwards. I called a family who I know are attached to their phones looking for requests. Nobody picked up. I text them, "Nobody picks up their phones ... No Wegmans for you!" My phone then blew up! I came home with fresh pineapple, chocolate chip & double chocolate muffins, AND ultimate chocolate chip cookies. There is so much to see, the variety of products , the freshness of seafood, meat and produce ... I spent two hours making selections. I was in my happy place. The apple doesn't fall from the tree. Stopped at my parents on the way home to share my bounty ... it was childlike wonder as I opened the 3 coolers and we oohed and aahed ... priceless.
