I couldn't do negative stars.....I'd have to dig a trench. Do yourself a favor and find a real pharmacy with full service.

He and I are getting the problem fixed (I'm definitely the "apprentice"...but need as much knowledge about this vehicle as possible). My neighbor diagnosed the problem, we've replaced the camshaft, distributor, various gaskets, etc, etc. A little more to do, but should (hopefully) be back on the road with a few more hours of work. The previous owner (I assume) installed the timing gear backwards which caused the camshaft and the distributor gear to grind each other down. Was it coincidence vehicle failed so soon after driving it? Who knows.... A VERY involved inspection would have been needed by Vintage Motors to identify it on this ...as I now realize. That could be a big hit to profitability....and no small business would survive very long operating at a loss. Had I hired my own mechanic to examine prior to purchase, I'm doubtful this would have been identified. I think when buying a restored vehicle, while I agree its a good idea to hire a SKILLED 3rd party mechanic to give his/her blessing....unless your crystal ball says otherwise, expect to have problems. If you're a newb like me, find some resources that know the vehicle well, and learn from them. Original Post: I tend to post positive reviews; but I feel obligated to post this so people understand not every transaction with Vintage (or any company) goes well. On 2/3 I bought a '73 FJ40 for $30k. No isssues on test drive (though very weird the salesman drove the whole time; I wasnt given the chance) . Yet, No major concerns. Delievered to me on Tuesday 2/7; It was very slow starting. The delivery driver claimed ignorance. On 2/7 and 2/8 I drove 2 times under 10 miles. on 2/9 i drove 11 miles away and the trouble began. On the way home, doing approx 60-65 mph the car started backfiring, then stalled and would not restart so I pulled over. Highway Patrol showed up and got me a tow ($400 for 5 miles) and the vehicle has not run since. Initially, the dealer seemed willing to help. That willingness seems to have eroded over the past week. They've provided zero help, suggestions (or anything really) despite a 2 page description of the events including photos of what my mechanical resource discovered. No clarifying questions or reply to the summary at all from them. Seems they're falling back on "you signed away your rights" . If this happened after driving it for 3-6 months (not 3 days), I'd chalk it up to buying a '73. Vintage has made zero suggestions, provided zero support, didnt offer anything for the hassle and time spent diagnosing, or even the $400 tow. They denied doing work, but it seems they did and something was done wrong. Perhaps they've washed their hands because they got their $$. Never again with Vintage, and make sure to tell you friends.

I bought this vehicle two months ago sight unseen. (I know). I was assured everything was good…read more Here's a list of things I had to do fix and to get the vehicle safe to drive. 1. Added dedicated battery-to-engine ground (fixed warm start issue)Truck wouldn't start when hot. 2. (I knew ac didn't work) Replaced A/C O-ring (fixed leak) 3. Replaced A/C hose 4. Recharged A/C system 5. Replaced temperature sending unit (gauge) 6. Rerouted and shortened spark plug wires 7. Upgraded alternator charge wire (larger gauge) Truck would under voltage when everything on. 8. Adjusted idle speed to proper range 9. Set ignition timing correctly 10. Installed dual electric fans to stop over heating while ac running 11. Installed dual-stage fan controller and wiring 12. Tightened lower control arm bolts (corrected preload issue) 13. Installed rack and pinion bushings. Truck swayed uncontrollably. 14. Replaced both steering shaft U-joints 15. Replaced Power Steering Pump 16. Bled power steering system 17. Cut rear bump stops (corrected bottoming condition) 18. Replaced front shocks 19. Replaced rear shocks 20. Replaced DRIVESHAFT 21. Replaced driveshaft U-joints 22. Replaced tailshaft bushing (transmission) 23. Replaced tailshaft seal (transmission) 24. Refilled transmission fluid (Dex/Merc ATF) 25. Installed rivet nuts for battery enclosure cover so it didn't fly up. This whole experience has been Terrible. Still chasing a harmonic vibration. Again I was assured the truck was in great condition and is still barely drivable. First and last vehicle purchased sight unseen.
