I never leave reviews and always give companies an ample opportunity to correct their mistakes, but I can't ever say if you have any issues to think that Walters would correct their mistake willingly. Last Friday, October 11, 2024, on the same day, they damaged my retaining wall and failed to empty my trash cart. We changed to Walter's a year ago after our rate kept going up with our other service provider. I was able to get a much lower rate for myself and an elderly relative. In addition, they are able to lock the rate in for 2 years. I have worked on a few small house projects since having Walter's and they are always quick to respond and have amazing customer service. Recently I had my trash not picked up by Walters. It happened two months back also. When I called them, it was Friday at 2:30 PM, I informed them they forgot to pickup my trash. The Cust rep told me since it was weekend next day, my trash would be picked up on Monday. I asked her why, since we still had 3 hours to go before offices close. She told me that all the drivers are gone, and the driver who picks up our trash, has identified in their register that the trash was picked up this morning. I told the CR that this has happened the second time in 2 months. She said there is no way it can be done before Monday. I told her that it was not fair since the trash would smell, and last time I had to throw it out myself. Anyway, she offered me a credit, and then said I can have either a credit, or have the trash picked upon on Monday. I was dumbfounded, the credit should have been given because of lapse of service, and then taking care of the lapse, by picking up the trash on Monday! She insisted that it can be either or, otherwise a supervisor/manger would call me. Well I received a call from the supervisor, she also told me the same thing. I tried to reason with her that the credit you are providing is because you guys screwed up the service, but she also insisted that either I take the credit, or pickup on Monday. I choose the pickup. These conversations with both of them were very irritating, lack of empathy and understanding, and just giving company's prospective. Not listening to other person's point of view! Saving few dollars with a credit shows, what this company is all about! They have increased the pricing on constant basis, we never call them for that and pay the bill. But when it comes to them, they want to squeeze every penny from their customers. They did pickup the trash on Monday, but lost a customer due to very poor customer service, or may I say non-existent, argumentative customer service! read more

Trash is trash is trash to us as busy people. So especially during inflationary times, we go by price. Long time customer of walters. Ace offered a promotion we liked, so we switched. This is where u learn about walters integrity. They ignored the service termination sent them by ace. I spent extra time doing that. Then on 1.28.25, our last day of service, they left the extra bag we set next to the can, btw they allow 4 for customers in "good" standing i guess, they left it on the street. Kind of a big F You to us as long time paying customers. I've called and emailed, no reply. That's walters' integrity. Steer clear of any company with low integrity, especially this one. read more

Walters acquired me as a customer from LePage in 2020, where I had a 3 year price guarantee that started November 2020. After a year, Walters started increasing my price without advance notice. This quickly got out of control, going as high as a 91.8% year-over-year increase! Overall, my bill increased 140% in a 2 year time period. This is much higher than inflation, which has only topped out at 8.6%. Walters is price gouging on an essential service - this is indisputable. When I contacted Walters, they gave me a line about their costs going up and offered me a $7 quarterly discount. They wouldn't budge to make any reasonable concession in pricing, even though I offered to pay an inflation adjusted price from my original billing. When I was transferred to a supervisor, he was conveniently out of the office. I had a similar experience with Walters when I was with them previously. At that time, they admitted that they automatically increase their customers' bills after a year. This is a disgusting, unethical practice and results in bills that raise endlessly. NEVER use Walters. Their pricing tactics are predatory and unethical. Walters should lose their trash hauler license in Coon Rapids due to their unethical business pricing practices on an essential service. I have left Walters and gone to another provider who was willing to provide a reasonable price. Ace is charging me $72/quarter for the same exact service! I can't overstate this enough, but never use Walter's Recycling & Refuse Inc. We've had them for our trash pickup for a month now, and we have only had our trash picked up ONCE in that time. They miss our house every Thursday, promise they'll send the truck back the next day, don't pick up again, then finally they pick up the following Monday after calling/emailing them again. It has happened EVERY. SINGLE. WEEK. since we moved to this area. They say the driver "can't locate our house", yet somehow our recycling has been picked up as scheduled every other week without issue. Keep promising it will stop happening just to happen again like clockwork. Real tired of companies continually falling through on the "service" we pay them to provide. Our customer service rep has been nice and is trying to make up for the issues, but it just happens again and again. read more

They didn't pick up my yard waste cart last week or my bags of leaves. I called and instead of saying that they would come out the next day like their warning letter said they said I'll have to wait till next week. Well, next week, yesterday, came and went and they still haven't picked up the yard waste. Calling again today. They better have a better answer than last week. I'm 69 and told old and no way to take the leaves to a dump sit that's why I paid $140 for the service. When you pay for a service the work should be performed or get all your money back. My recycling service was not picked up last week. I called and phones were off where it said due to weather and vehicles down your service might be delayed and leave bins out. Phones were off most the week. Called the following week and was told our service was 7 hours early and would not be picked up until normal time the following week. I do not believe our driver was out and there were numerous bins in our neighborhood not serviced. Very disappointed with walters and being lied to by there receptionist. I recently switched over to Walters from another carrier and already my garbage has been missed twice. The lady on the phone told me that my garbage was not out (not true, we put our garbage out the night before) and my neighbor even told me he saw the truck slow down but the driver looked confused and drove off. I have used Walters Recycling and Refuse before and have never had good service with the recycling. I moved into a new townhouse and put some boxes out to be picked up by recycling. I thought for sure they would pick the boxes up. Some of them were not cut up to 3x3, some were. Not one box out out of the bin was picked-up. I know they don't want to get out of the truck and do it manually, too much labor work. I have brought boxes to the place itself, no where to put the items, bins are always over flowing.If I could switch to a different company, I would. I tried calling, of course not open. The service was okay, no issues with the pickup but the cost doubled in the past few years. Along with a huge rate increase, the fuel surcharge is very expensive and always goes up never down. The fuel surcharge is 100% higher from just two years ago. Obviously it is not related to actual oil or natural gas costs. Oh, and they just started charging another fee that other haulers aren't charging, Recycling Commodities Adjustment, whatever that is, it started out at $5.40 a year ago and is up to $6.66 with my last billing. Don't be fooled by the their Can-be-clean ploy. They said they would notify us when they would clean our cans, we didn't have to do anything. Yesterday I had a fantastic Walter's experience when raking my yard. A Walter's Recycling truck pulled up and the driver said: "Hey. It looks like you could use you bin emptied". He then proceeded to dump our yard waste into the truck and chat for a minute with the basic message that just like him we all have a ton of leafs to clean up so if he can help he wants to. Well we are long time residents in Andover MN. We had Ace for 15 years never had an issue. On a whim a salesman Jon for Walters came to our door, offered 3 free months, frozen fee of $19.50 for 3 years which include the largest garbage and largest recycling cans. Also weekly pickup on Tuesday. Well he seemed so honest, wrote everything he promised down and even gave us a stamped letter to mail to Ace cancelling their service with Walters to start without any delays. Ace picked up our cans asking why we left, then said theyd beat any offer once Walters 3 years was up. We waited for our Walters can to be delivered and 2 weeks went by. Hmmmm no can and we had nowhere to out our garbage. I called Jon several times and no answer. So I called Walters advising everything Jon had promised and their customer service rep said, " well Jon does work here, has had issues with other new customers recently, and he had not turned in any paperwork on us." I advised this was a verbal agreement, and I have the paperwork their salesman signed and prices with dates listed. I emailed a photo of such to this gal. She said we would indeed be given 3 months free, and a 3 years frozen fee of $19.50. She also said we would have to wait another week for our cans to be dropped off. Hm, more standing garbage! And now we ate looking at December. Cans were left in our drive a week later, and we were billed for 3 months with an increase in cost Nov. 20,2018! What! I contacted the same customer service gal. She said we had to pay the first 3 months (Nov, Dec,Jan) and our Feb bill will reflect the next 3 months free as promised. Fine what about the fee increase as our acct was frozen for 3 years. She apologized and said the automated service adds on increases without knowing who's acct should be frozen. Well I advised to fix it. All done and no issues with our pickups. Feb bill arrived with a fee increase and no free 3 months as they were charging us! What has got to be done here?! I sent the same customer service gal the billing increase inquiry and no free 3 months as promised- lets see what kind of crap they pull now. Other neighbors have said they signed on with this Jon back in Nov and have had nothing but problems too. Walters I guess wants a legal issue to arise as they are stretching their customers patience with this extra crap we have to deal with in billing, contracts, legal binding paperwork! My advice keep who you have and ask for a better deal or go elsewhere. 2/4/19; UPDATE. Well we were contacted via email and telephone (& on Yelp), a Walters customer service D. Joel advised of the mistakes made on our recent billing. Mike on Yelp explained what in the world was going on internally (which makes sense when our old Ace guy stopped by 2 weeks ago advising everyone in our neighborhood was having issues with Walters & inviting us back. ) looks like "Jon" may have been taking the company down with him??, Well I am glad to see Mike willing to explain and the billing issues hopefully fixed until June. I guess when all other TRASH companies have low ratings too, you are stuck with the slightly better one. Here are some concerns: Trash not picked up and when you call customer services, they make you feel like it is your fault. Not dumping out all contents in your trash/yard waste bin - called twice about it. Did not call another 2 times it happened (they act like you're lying - "Are you sure you're not adding more to the bin?"). Charging you for something in your trash and not letting you know about it until it shows up on your bill. Increasing prices within a few years, from $60s to $100s. Drivers will bypass Trash cans just because they feel like it. when they do take the cans, half of the time they'll leave lying in middle of street on side causing drivers to have to stop vehicles and move cans off to side of road. spoke with management and got the "oh well" speech. I have a two month saga of recycling not being picked up. Repeated calls did not solve the problem so I cancelled service. Phone staff is pleasant but problem not solved. I also heard lies (supposedly from the driver) that my bin was not on the curb when it should have been. Totally false. Update-Walters finally corrected the problem and service has been good for a couple of months with no more issues. Update-More than a year has passed and Walters has continued to go above and beyond, offering great service. read more

I got home from work on Friday and my trash can was still on the curb full, so I called them to ask why it wasn't picked up. They told me it wasn't on the curb, which is impossible since I had it out the night before and was at work all day. I asked them to pick it up ASAP as it was a holiday weekend and I had company coming over & would rather not have my garage smell like diapers. They never came or return any of my emails. My garage smells like diapers and my garbage can has no room left - horrible way to treat a customer who has never made a late payment or missed a trash pick-up and also accuse me of lying about having my garbage out. Even IF I did forget to bring out my garbage can, is that any way to treat a customer?? I will be switching services and would NOT recommend them for anyone need garbage services. read more

My neighbor uses your services and I saw the driver get out to retrieve my neighbors garbage can from next to the garage (approx 25 ft from the street) Not only is that going out of his way, but the drive had more than 10" of snow and had not been shoveled. I called for a delivery time at 8 o'clock and they told me that they would call me back in a few minutes to tell me the delivery time. I was never called back. I called Danielle back 3 hours later and they said that they just dispatched it to have this way, which was a lie. Cassie and Danielle said that it would be here before noon, well it's past noon. I believe these millennial's need to have a PIP, performance improvement plan, put in place.
