I asked her for just a quick cleanup of my hairline which was normally done by my currently out of town spouse. She told me that without an appointment she would not cut my hair, and besides she had a doctor's appointment and would be leaving soon. She said I could look "for a place near Walmart". I retired in the area 4 years ago and am baffled by just how short-sighted some small businesses can be. Due to her unwelcome treatment (the business is either open or it is not and nowhere on this Yelp site or on the exterior of the business does it state "By appointment only".) I will never return. Since hair care customers represent an ongoing flow of revenue I guess she has plenty of repeat business and treats folks as she did with no worries. She may have actually been leaving--so put a Closed sign on the door--and be a little gracious about it.

Chairs line the wall for patrons to wait for their turns in the chair. An old TV is mounted on the wall, but it's always turned off. I can't imagine the shop has changed much in the forty years it's been there. That's amazing in itself. Sadly no shaves here (wet or otherwise), but the barber (I assume Mr. Fontaine since he said he'd been cutting there for forty years) did cut my hair nicely. He knew the tricks to tame my double crown, trimmed all my edges, trimmed up my chops, and after 25 minutes or so was finished. $13. I was a little sad that this black-owned and operated business was playing some "Joe FM" leaving me with The Cure, B-52s, and Bob Seger instead of some nice Al Green or Sam Cook. The conversation was good and I was pleased with the finished product. Definitely some place to visit for a men's haircut and shave or beard trim.
