Too amateur, too many mistakes and sound glitches…read more The owner of this small 1000 watt radio station is attempting to build his Cornelius-Statesville radio market with a whole slough of amateur, unproven radio interviewers. WSIC 100.7 FM, 1400 AM, and LKN is now owned by Justin Ckezepis: a real estate lawyer and a part-time financial advisor. But listeners tuning in have beeb forced to endure an 8 week marathon of glaring problems. The enormity of technical glitches and inexperienced talk show hosts is getting rabid ratings from locals. SHOW CONTENT: WSIC offers up about 10 to 12 radio talk-show "wannabees" that are sorely in need of relevant talk show topics that might attract listerners. And each host's rookie mistakes and flat personalities make for an unbearable experience for listeners. The female doctor's segment last week spent a full hour of in-depth details about women's hormonal functions. That topic was as interesting as watching paint dry and it killed off an entire audience of men that will think twice about wanting to tune in to WSIC in the future. 100.7 FM, 1400 AM, and LKN listeners are victims to frequent SUDDEN DEAD AIR glitches (SDA's). For instance, 3 weeks ago, during a Todd Starnes talk show, WSIC dropped dead at 3:10 PM! And this vacuum of silence went on for 45 minutes! There was not a single explanation or apology. NOTHING BUT SILENCE! Radio advertisers hate wasting dollars because of incompetent sound engineers. The cardinal rule in radio: DEAD AIR KILLS PROFITS. Listeners get mad at sponsors, and sponsors have to follow up with refund demands which is always annoying. Many people wrongly assume that running a radio station or talking on a live microphone is easy as pie. But good radio is built on the reputations and experience of qualified General Managers. Good managers hire the best talent. Talent (talkshow hosts) must have good voices and exceptional conversation skills. They need to be intelligent and gracious, as well as having a sense of humor with good timing. But this station owner has sold out: In July, WSIC's website posted the price rates to buy your own time slot to talk on live on the air. This proves that TALENT is not a priority to Mr. Ckezepis. The only shows worth listening to are Todd Starnes in early afternoons and Dana Loesch in late evenings. But don't assume WSIC is a conservative, Christian-based business. News bulletins break into programming all day long with short, 2 or 3 sentence news bits that reek with the stench of one-sided opinions. Many of these urgent announcements emanate from Deep State and WOKE proponents repeating the same old hate Trump news. WSIC news editor Mike Jackson makes the editing choices of what to broadcast everyday. But many of his pre-recorded news bites contain edit errors and often cut off the last few words of a sentence before playing the next sound cue. As a radio host, Justin Ckezepis hosts one of the most slowest, and prosaic show on Fridays when he interviews a local pharmacy owner. Fred Lawry hesitates, hems and haws, and is the antonym of an ebullient guest. He should never, ever be allowed near a microphone again. Just listen to him, and you'll know why! Justin's voice is high-pitched as he talks too fast in short spurts of words. He often pontificates and grandstands with lengthy commentaries or rabbit holes that go off subject. The guest should be the star of the show, instead of getting smothered by his interviewer's ego. The rest of WSIC's staff is an assemblage of weak, higher pitched voices from the men and hoarse and crackling sounding voices from female Dr. hosts Bill O'Reilly's voice is caput and hoarse! Pat Shannon still holds court in the mornings with a ho-hum, slow paced laundry list of used yard sale items or wishing happy birthdays to eager people that demand air-time. But Pat's voice has faded over time and softened down his vocal chords. The special events announcer sounds like a young high school cheerleader. Her cutesy-pie voice takes on the tone of a huckster as she implores listeners to check out the local events list. Iredell and Mecklenberg counties are not exactly famous for providing vibrant venues of fun entertainment events. But nevertheless, WSIC listeners are pounded with a heavy rotation of droll event announcements all day and night long. (I've heard she is married to the station GM. Again, talent takes a step back in lieu of "connections". WHERE ARE THE MANLY, AUTHORITATIVE VOICES OF broadcasting's golden era? There is a 6 minute recording circulating on the net of one WSIC "personality" who tried to cover for a 40 minute DEAD air stint in early August. He sounds like a 19 year old, educationally challenged young guy who was probably told to grab the mic and do anything to "fill the DEAD AIR". It is the most embarrassing and ridiculous piece of dreck in broadcast history. This should become a teaching example of BAD RADIO for broadcasting school.

During the week the airwaves are filled with the music of my youth, all of it from before the turn of the century: Frankies, Georges, Pattis, a dozen or so Bobs... they are all here. Station doesn't carry too far out of town: south into Davidson, east to the county line, over the water to the west, and north almost to Troutman... If you're in town (literally) give it a listen.
