We completed an application online and left a payment. One of our close friends was then contacted as a reference. Next thing I knew we had a home visit scheduled which turned into Spike's first night at our home and a member of our family. It was an easy process and we have a kitten that is very easy going and great with our kids (but not so great with our shower curtain but that's just catnanigans!) There are just so many good things to say about this place that I'm not sure where to start…read more First, it is not a "shelter" in the typical sense of the word, and the staff and guests do not refer to it as a "shelter". They consider themselves a "community", and act as such. There are NO lines for anything at the WLP. The women are served their meals at their tables by volunteers, and their materials are bussed for them once they are done, unless they choose to self-bus. The food. Oh heavens! WLP prides itself on serving nourishing, FRESH food. Each meal will have all nutritional requirements met, and there is always a veggie option. We're not talking canned goods or sandwiches here, folks. No, this is chopped and diced fresh veggies, prime cut meats, the finest ingredients. If you're a good cook and after you've volunteered a few times, they are happy to let you get in the kitchen and help whip up stuff. The resident chef there, Gina, is wonderfully creative in the kitchen (and very nice), and from time to time, other professional chefs from local restaurants come in to put together a meal. The WLP isn't jsut a food place, although that's the highlight of the day. It also provides the women with full time advocacy support to help with finding housing, food, or other services. There is a computer room/resource room that the ladies may use. There is also a nap room where women can go to get sometimes some much needed rest, and also a quiet room for just some peace, solitude, and maybe reading or reflecting. Women are also able to get various toiletries and clothing that they may need. They may do their laundry and take showers. The Program Manager, Heather (also very, very nice and competent) has done a great job of making sure that there are interesting activities for guests if they choose to participate: yoga, painting, field trips, knitting, etc. Since the WLP is run as a "community", the staff are INCREDIBLY patient with the women, and if a guest is being disorderly or breaking a rule, she is not immediately tossed out, but is counseled and given more than one opportunity to redeem herself by correcting her behavior. Throwing someone out is a last option at the WLP. WLP treats its volunteers as the valuable commodity we are. We are appreciated, thanked, and made to feel a part of the "team". Added Perk: They also have really incredible volunteer thank you events! I enjoy volunteering here. I learn something new and meet new people each time I go. I don't have a lot of spare time to volunteer, but when I do, the WLP gets me all the time, every time. It's important to know that this place could not be so great without us- the community at large supporting it through donations, volunteering, contributions, etc. The staff, Regina, Linda, Joanna, Lauren, Linnie, and Cheryl are terrific- go meet them! This is just a wonderful, wonderful place. You will not leave here without your heart being touched in some way.

I've volunteered there many times, and the experience was wonderful. The staff is as open, kind and welcoming to volunteers as they are to their ladies. The ladies? Wow. Instead, over a year later, the pest population has actively increased. It's been so completely ineffective that I've had to spend my own money at Home Depot to buy products and treat the property myself. When I finally called to cancel--stating I wanted out immediately after my final already paid for treatment--they completely ignored my directive. Not only did they process yet another unauthorized charge to my account, but their technicians also managed to completely spray and kill my home vegetable garden. The only things this company successfully eradicates are your wallet and your cultivated plants. They fail at basic pest management, ignore explicit cancellation requests, practice predatory billing, and destroy personal property. Save your money, your sanity, and your garden. Look elsewhere.

We…read morebecame a new customer of Star Petroleum about a year and a half ago when they came out to service our Propane tank. The service team was so nice and they are so conveniently located that we decided to switch over our oil to them as well. We've been very happy with no complaints. Recently, just days before our vacation out of the country (of course), our oil tank spouted a small leak. We called to ask if we could patch the tank until we returned from our trip. They came right out and attempted to help with a short term solution. Because the small hole was right on the seam, it was not able to be patched. The team was so considerate and concerned about us being able to enjoy our vacation that they went above and beyond to help put us at ease. They were able to create a temporary resolution until we returned home from vacation and had their team coming out while we were gone (with my sister-in-law house/dog sitting) to monitor the situation and keep the hot water going with a small supply of oil sourced outside of the tank that they continued to refill. Every single person that has come out has been extremely helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. Once we returned from our trip we found out that the annual service fee we pay (I think it is in the $60 / year range - very reasonable) also enrolls us into a program called "Tank Guard" which is like an insurance on your tank. With the replacement of our tank, this program covers up to $2,000 on the cost! It was truly the silver lining to an almost disastrous situation! Throughout this ordeal, I cannot speak highly enough on how considerate, accommodating, and supportive Star has been to us. Without their hard work to put us at ease, I don't think we would have even gone on or enjoyed our vacation but, because of the stellar team at Star, we enjoyed our trip and came home to good news about our oil tank replacement. Couldn't have picked a better oil supplier!! We are very, very happy customers!! Thank you guys for going above and beyond - it shows that you see your customers as people first and it makes all the difference!

Came here for a quick workout and sauna because it's the closest Y to the Wrentham Outlet Mall,…read morewhere I dropped off my friend for her shopping expedition. What amazed me: 1. The staff member working in the fitness area (moderately sized but very nice quality equipment and lots of natural light) was actually DOING SOMETHING, i.e. walking around and putting stuff back in their proper places! Never seen that at any other Y I've been to, where staff just stand around, fiddle with their phones, and generally just use up oxygen---unless they are personal trainers working with a paying client. Not only that, the guy actually noticed that I was new and came up to me, introduced himself and offered help if I ever needed any! Absolutely flabberghasting staff behavior for a YMCA, lol! If only every Y were like this. 2. The fairly new, spacious, and coed sauna next to the pool area (there are no longer single sex saunas in the locker rooms, I was told) was actually heated to a decent temperature (190F according to the thermometer hanging on the wall at chest level) AND had two levels of seating so you could actually get a decent sweat on, as opposed to some Ys that for some boneheaded reason have only a single low bench which is completely useless because duh, heat RISES so why in the hell would you want to be sitting so low when it's already maxed out at some wimpy 150F? (Cough cough, Melrose and Framingham YMCAs.) The disadvantage of a poolside sauna though is that it's a pain to go back and forth back to the locker room shower for a cold rinse every 10-15 minutes, as opposed to a locker room sauna---but this is not a fatal flaw. 3. The treadmills were by a brand called Matrix I had never seen before and I got on one hoping that it wouldn't totally suck like the Precor treadmills---happily, it did not, though I was disappointed at how tiny the screens were after being spoiled by the huge 24" screens of the Life Fitness treadmills at my home Y in Cambridge. BUT it had one beautiful feature the big fancy LF treadmills lacked: a built in cooling fan at the top of the console, which was absolutely delightful! Wish this feature were standard on EVERY piece of gym cardio equipment, lol. Only a few minior gripes about this place: - Almost all the stationary bikes were the geriatric recumbent kind. No Keiser bikes, which are the only ones with decent ergonomics and that actually feel like you're pedaling a real bike. - Kettlebells are few and max out at 22kg, which is barely enough for one handed swings and presses, but much too light for loaded carries or two handed swings. - Oh and it'd be nice if they had some hanging boxing bags, or at least one. This is one of the things that sets the Cambridge Y apart: an abundance of free-hanging real boxing bags, not the useless water-base standing bags. This gym appears to have neither. Overall though, this is a very good Y and I will be sure to return next time I'm in the area!

This has been the worst year we have ever experienced at the Foxboro YMCA Camp. Our family has…read moretrusted this camp for over a decade, and until this year, we always felt our child was in good hands. Unfortunately, that trust has been completely broken. During this camp season, my child reported being bullied and being told he would be shot. When he brought the incident to the counselors' attention, they laughed, watched it happen, and called him a "crybaby" instead of taking his concerns seriously. I reported this to the assistant director, but nothing meaningful was done to address the situation or ensure my child's safety. Things only got worse. My child was later physically assaulted multiple times, and the incidents were captured on video. When I contacted the camp director, despite having multiple accounts of what happened and video evidence, I was told she needed more information. Rather than taking immediate action to protect my child and address the behavior, it felt like the situation was being minimized instead of investigated thoroughly. After more than ten years of sending our children to this camp, I never imagined we would have an experience like this. Every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and heard. Based on our experience this year, I can no longer recommend this camp to other families. I sincerely hope the YMCA takes these concerns seriously and makes meaningful changes so that no other child has to go through what ours experienced.
