Disclaimer: I'm a big fan of dim sum, but I an American, and my review reflects my tastes.
Wangfu is located in Serendra a "bridge" between Market! Market! and Bonifacio High Street. Mostly restaurants, it was still busy at 9:30 on Sunday night, so we were surprised when the first two restaurants we tried were closed or closing and didn't want to seat our group. So we were happy to find Wangfu still open.
We ordered:
Sweet corn soup with minced chicken*
Siomai (or shu mai)
Hakaw (shrimp dumplings)
Spareribs
Abalone mushroom with broccoli
Salt and pepper calamari*
Fried fish with black bean sauce*
*see photos
Best dishes:
sweet corn soup (really nice flavor - you could taste both; nice small corn and chicken pieces
salt and pepper calamari - crunchy, not at all greasy, with an awesome blend of sweet and hot peppers and onions to accompany it
Good, but not remarkable:
Siomai, Hakaw (I'm allergic, so I'm basing this on my husband's review)
Fried fish with black bean sauce - fish was good, sauce was good, but sauce was too heavy for the fish, weighing it down - I'd advise less corn starch or flour in the sauce
Abalone mushroom with broccoli - fine, but very unattractive and slimy looking
Not recommended:
Short ribs - very teeny portion, but even that wasn't finished. Not flavorful enough, too greasy - looked like it was floating on its own grease.
Ordering individual items is *much* more expensive than the set meals, which (according to other reviews) come with unlimited rice refills. Our Filipino friend ordered for the entire group in Tagalog and we had to order individual sides for those that wanted rice.
Also worth noting is that the ice cream floats on the menu were not what we expected. The root beer floats were made with some type of cola, not root beer, and had ice in them as well as ice cream. It might be typical, but even our friend who grew up here was surprised.
Service was ok. read more
