Whilst in Amsterdam, I ventured to the Jordaan with thoughts of pizza but smelled some good Thai food and popped in. Nice quaint kitchen with about seating for 18 inside and a few more tables outside. Very welcoming and pleasant service. I perused the menu and tried the pad si ew with chicken with added spice. They decide spice by how many thai chilies you want your meal cooked with, I said two. Nice presentation and a huge plate of noodles! From the outside, this place doesn't look like much. Truth be told, I didn't even plan on coming here. I was originally going to go to Moeders down the street but they rejected me because they were full. Hungry, I adventured around for any place accepting walk-ins. Intuition told me that these small hole in the wall restaurants are often hidden gems. I was correct this time and had the best meal I had in all of Amsterdam here. Thai food is one of my favorite cuisines and everything about this place seemed very authentic. The owners are Thai and have owned the restaurant for many years. They have music from Thailand playing and the owners will sing along as they cook your meal right in front of you. I ordered the Tom Kha Kai and the (accidentally) the red curry chicken dish. I meant to order 29 and might've said 28 by accident. Everything looked so delicious that I didn't mind the mix-up. The owners/cooks were very friendly and appeared to be the only employees in the restaurant. There was another group eating at the table next to me, but other than that, I only saw delivery men walk in for food. The fragrance of the cooking made me very excited. I got my soup first and idk if I've ever had this soup before so I don't have anything to compare till it to. It was good and the flavors of the coconut milk paired well with the spicy soup. The red curry dish is what really impressed me. It was very flavorful and just hit all the marks for good red curry. The chicken was well cooked and there was plenty of it. Only wish there was more rice for all of the chicken curry haha. I'll be sure to come back here whenever I'm in Amsterdam. This little mom and pop shop was so accommodating for our group of 6! The food was amazing. Our group ordered garlic & basil shrimp, curry, pad thai, and beef. Everything was delicious. The pad thai was a bit different because it didn't have the tamarind tangy flavor I am used to but still a solid noodle dish. Just a FYI, the vegetarian and tofu options have a more mild flavor than the meat dishes. When my friends ordered the tofu pad Thai and chicken pad Thai, the chicken pad thai was more flavorful. The tofu was delicious though! This place had amazing customer service an I would totally come back! read more

Pains me to write a really poor review for a small local shop. I was expecting good food based on the high star reviews... but i was really disappointed. First off the staff was friendly and nice. But the food overall was poor. The chicken spring rolls was fine. The coconut soup was really sweet and the Tom yum was just alright. On to the bad.. the pad thai was one of the worst I have had. It did not taste like pad Thai at all and didn't even have same ingredient as a common pad thai. I was trying to justify the dish but even if I said it was a stir fried noodles, it tasted really bad. I couldn't even finish it (which is sad because I normally don't waste food). The pad see ew was equally as bad. It didn't taste like pad see ew at all and they used the thin vermicelli noodles. I also have some concerns for the health aspect of this shop. I was in front of the counter waiting for my takeout, and I see the food tickets dipping into the cooked food and falling into the pre-cut ingredients. I see the chef picking out pieces of food right from the wok with her bare hands. I understand that they are busy, but it was so hectic and unappealing just watching them. read more

So this little hole in the wall joint is right across the street from Ma Baker and situated conveniently across from a tram stop, and it's riiiight on the corner. You walk in and the first thing that greets you is the amazingly delicious scents wafting from the kitchen that's right infront of each and every table in this small space. Three lovely Thai women are rapidly concocting dishes in various woks and pots. On one side of the kitchen are the stoves and the other is a fresh bar where dishes are garnished before sailing to one of the nearby tables. A really friendly, grizzle fellow takes your orders and gets you situated when you walk in. In a city full of canals, the mural in the corner of this restaurant is a brightly painted depiction of a Thai waterway. The tables comfortably and cozily seat 2 at a time with a rare four top that you can spot. This is definitely a place to come with 1 other person max. So grab a good friend or lover and come get comfy as you watch these wonderful women at work in the kitchen in the dimly lit restaurant as Thai music wafts over head through a few speakers. We split an order of veggie spring rolls which were good and a tofu soup which was just too sweet. Which I had the inclination that the rest of the meal was going to end up being peppered with too much sugar. My sister ordered a spicy fish dish with green beans and I ordered a semi spicy fried tofu basil dish. I asked for mine to be made with the max (3chili) level spiciness. The man ordering at first recommended to do it at 2 stars, but seeing as I eat food at a spice level that's atomic, I insisted on a level 3. The dishes came out and it's clear that they are so wonderfully flavored----the sad part is, that the added sugar takes away from how great these dishes could be. If they hadn't added the sugar, these dishes would have been 5 star. However --- the sugar was so overwhelming that it knocked it down to 3 stars. I'd recommend this place for folks who like Thai food and don't mind a sweetness to --- everything. read more

We were craving something familiar for dinner on our trip (after lots of heavy, fried foods from a food and drink tour during the day). This was highly rated and near our Airbnb. Lots of different types of people stopped by when we were eating here, ranging from solo diners, girlfriends catching up, and a guy picking up his to-go order. The menu is pretty standard. Not the best Thai food I have ever had, but not the worst either. My fiancé ordered the basil chicken and he enjoyed it. I had the tom yum soup and it was decent. It was not as sour as ones I have tried in San Francisco, and a bit more on the sweet side. Same goes for the green papaya salad, a bit on the sweeter side. It was also extremely spicy if you are into that. For me, it was a bit too spicy. Overall, this place is good if you are craving Thai food in the area. I noticed Thai restaurants are not as commonplace in Amsterdam as it is back in California. Pretty reliable place for standard Thai food. read more

I was walking down Rozengracht yesterday when I because desperately hungry. I looked around and saw a petite Asian lady through a window, chopping up some vegetables. "That's a good sign of fresh food and a good chef", I said to myself. I then proceeded to do what any intelligent person does these days before entering a restaurant. I LOOKED IT UP ON YELP! 2X reviews giving it high ratings. "What the heck, I'm going in!" (And yes, I do have these inner monologues on a regular basis =). I am so glad that I stopped in here. There was one couple in the corner, but besides that the place was empty. The little Thai lady came over to me and asked what I would like. "I'll have the Tom Kha Gai and Pat Sei Jew please! Oh, yeah, my Thai isn't very good...I'll have the number 9 and 79 please! Thanks!" As I waited the owner came over to my table and I showed him that by checking into his restaurant, that I had received a coupon for one free drink. He was actually quite curious and had me show him how I did this on Yelp. It turns out that he is quite tech-savvy and we began to have a conversation about Bit Coins, iPhones, and house music (of all things). He even grabbed some food for himself and chatted and ate with me. In the end, he ended up inviting me to a house party later that night. It didn't end up working out, but he was a cool guy and took the time to get to know his clientele. If you would like a homey Thai restaurant with good food and a friendly staff, you should keep this place in mind. read more

Between yelp and Groupon I might be able to find and try every restaurant Amsterdam. When I first walked in a knew it was going to be the right place because my eyes were burning. The sign of a good restaurant is always that all your senses burning like hell. The owner said sorry for the intensive spicy aroma buttons that week the residents in the building above had complained about the cooking fumes because the hood was not properly venting fumes. It really wasn't too bad and since the Groupon was only for takeouts it was not a problem. The owner even went further mentioned that the atmosphere could be improved but the food was second to none. We chose a tofu cashew dish and green curry dish along with some Thai spring rolls for starters and tofu skewers. Everything was very tasty, was prepared quickly and we even got a free drink due to their yelp check-in. Bonus! I can't wait to go back and try a few more things on the menu. read more

We came in 15 minutes after their closing time which wasn't a problem at all for them. So welcoming! We could try the exotic fruit juices first, before buying. Might be some of the best Tom Kha Kai I have ever had; just the right blend of sweet and spicy broth along with nice chunks of mushrooms and chicken. For dinner, I had the red curry with chicken. The bowl was filled with vegetables and chicken rather than overly full with curry broth. The flavoring of the red curry had some nice heat but was balanced and did not overwhelm the taste of the chicken and vegetables. My wife had the green curry with chicken and she was equally pleased with her dish. Warie's is small and does a heavy take out/delivery business, so do not be mistaken by going there for the ambiance. Go there for the food! We will definitely return (probably next week). read more

Found them on yelp and they were close to our apartment, so decided to try them because of the reviews. Ordered the greeny curry chicken and the chicken pad thai. Green curry had more spice than flavor. I loved that the pad thai wasn't dry like it can be sometimes. First Thai restaurant we tried in Amsterdam and ONLY Thai restaurant we will keep going to....AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING!!! Ordered last night after a long day at Efteling amusement park. Ordered an array of dishes around 8pm. Delivery took a while, about an hour and 15 mins...which was fine by us...but if you're an impatient person you may need to order earlier. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, from the fried rice, to pad thai, to the seafood and chicken soups, to the green and red curry, beef and vegetable dishes, chicken satay, when I say EVERYTHING, I mean EVERYTHING was to die for....absolutely amazing, incredible, and insanely delicious. There were 4 of us and we literally were ALL "mmmm" "ahhhhing" and "wowing!!" at everything we were eating.....almost like we were eating food from a 10 star restaurant lol. FYI: Only thing they didn't tell us was that it seems for every type of curry order, you get an order of free white rice...so please keep that in mind, as we ended up having 4 extra orders of white rice, on top of 2 orders of fried rice that we selected, so we had tons of rice hahaha, which was perfectly fine by us as we stuffed our faces and still had tons of left overs which we are all eating right now for breakfast as I am typing this and still tastes just as good as it did last night and think we will still have more than enough for dinner too...so if you're cheap like us and want to save money over couple of meals/days and absolutely love Thai food like we do, then definitely the best way to go by ordering form here.
