    Mochi (with bean paste)

I stopped by to get a delicious meal, on my way back home from a meeting. I feel when buying the sushi platters yo do get really good value for money. My partner and I love veggie sushi and I think Wasabi do probably the best one (around here, at least) for vegetarians. With the platter you get some edamame, a seaweed salad and good selection of maki, inari,... This time I also bought some mochi whic was very tasty. I did very much enjoy the red bean paste filling (it is a different flavour, so may not be for everyone, but do give it a try ). I also purchased some vegetable noodles to heat up at home. Tip: if you are buying sushi for two (and do t mind eating leftovers) get a sushi platter! Is much more economical and you can get at least 2 main meals for two or 4 meals for two if you have other nibbles. I will definitely keep buying from wasabi, especially when I get to travel to the office since is on my way back home. See you around!

Wasabi is an excellent sushi bar reminiscent of sushi bars in Japan, located on the ground floor by the main Concourse of the fabulous Grand Central Station in Birmingham. With its cool interior of bamboo esque long wooden tables and super cool circular slotted wooden lampshades along its single seated bar, all overlooking the busy station of shoppers and passengers. A great place to stop on the way home from work, meet friends or take away to enjoy at home or on your train journey. With a great selection of food and the main food option being sushi, in cute little boxes or choose from single packages of sushi to mix and match or a hot Bento box food stand with my favourite dish Katsu Chicken Curry in a bowl with a rice compartment, Katsu curry on one side and two pieces of fried breadcrumbed chicken in another compartment on top, also spicy chicken and teriyaki options. Love love love! This place

I really like the concept and prices of Wasabi Sushi and Bento in New Street Station. Located in the main walking thoroughfare, this spot is incredibly convenient for a quick bite on the way, during a layover, or when it's just too rainy/cold outside to be bothered walking about. Seth S. and I tried Wasabi for the first time last week. I chose a chicken curry bento box and matcha filled pancake for dessert. He got a veg sushi sampler plus two individually wrapped tofu sushis. All food is ready to grab and go. I've never seen individually wrapped sushi before - what a cool concept - makes for easy meal customization at a great price. The chicken curry bento is delightful (though arguably not very Japanese). Packaging is a little excessive, but it keeps each food item separated so as not to get soggy or over saturated. The chicken is breaded in panic crumbs and fried. It is moist, tender and light - not greasy in the slightest. I loved the flavors in the burry - it's a brown curry with ginger and onion undertones. It's thinner than Indian curries, however, and there are no spoons so it was a bit messy. The matcha filled pancake is soft, moist and perfectly balanced in terms of sweetness. It was the perfect pudding to cap off a warm gingery meal. Seating at Wasabi is plentiful. Being in the train station, it is open, airy and minimally decorated. Dining is self-service and as with other food options in the station, prices vary for eat in vs. takeaway.

I'm a big fan of the Wasabi chain and their yakisoba are my go to if I'm hungry at a station. This is one of the branches which, instead of counter service, has prepackaged meals. So I can't get just yakisoba, I have to combine it with with a sauce dish. Fine by me, because the spicy chicken is pretty tasty. Don't bother with the teriyaki - it's just bland. This Wasabi is the nicest I've come across as far as the seating area goes - not surprising since its in the flashy new New Street station. It's shiny, new and well laid out.

Decided to have something to eat before going to Be at one cocktail bar launch day... And ended up here. It was 5.20pm and few people were sat eating and others looking in the fridges. One fridge was empty so I looked at each shelf. I ended up with a soup noodle as I love soup noodle, took a mochi and a green tea drink. They heated up the soup (I didn't see if he just added water or stock ... I wish I was taller to look over the counter ha ha they take credit cards which is great and I had to ask for a receipt! There are lots of tables and benches to sit at though you can takeway food. My noodles were not as soft as I normally like them but it was fine. I didn't eat the mochi so I put it in my bag and ate it later! The green tea came in a metal bottle which dented easily so not that nice to look at as people generally don't like dented tins. I wasn't that keen on this green tea but it maybe because I been drinking fruity green tea and this was plain green tea. I took it home too and will try finish it tomorrow! It's good place to get something different.. Next time I should try the bento!

I kind of stalked this place while it was being completed - like some grand central goblin. Kept checking to see when it would be completed, really excited to have somewhere to buy this kind of food - I'm biased because I love it! They open from 8 on the weekdays which is a little disappointing because I've usually passed through by then on almost all of my shift patterns except 1. So I can't always buy lunch but that's probably best as it is a little pricey for what it is. 1.99 for an onigiri - for a 2 minute walk out of the station you can get a baguette for £1 from Meal Deal. But it does taste good, I've almost mastered getting into the packaging as well. You can mix and match your own sushi, picking up individual choices to suit your tastes. There's also hot and filling options, chicken Katsu Donburi and curries; served in what are like smaller KFC buckets. They are about £6.99 which is expensive when you can go and have a sit down meal for the same but then you remember your in the middle of the stations concourse and you can suddenly understand the pricing. The staff seem pretty friendly, there can be a bit of a delay putting the food out in the morning just after 8. But it's just usually me lurking around then anyway. A quick request and they've either found or made what I wanted. I really like this place and think it's a good addition to the station for travellers and commuters with a hunger for this type of food.

A little expensive but the sushi here at Wasabi is the best you're going to get on the go. Situated on the lower level of Grand Central this little place is great to grab some quick, healthy food. The hot food is not worth bothering with in my opinion. It is often left to sit under the heaters, and each time I think I'll give it another chance, I am left disappointed and hungry. And at these prices, that isn't a good thing. The individual sushi pieces work out quite expensive so I would suggest a box set instead. Unfortunately the chiller cabinet keeps these a little colder than the optimum sushi eating temperature. I have to leave the sushi a little while before eating it. But I always enjoy the sushi boxes from Wasabi, and think it's a great addition to the station food outlets. There are several tills open at busy times, but I have been made to wait because someone is finishing in five minutes and is just hanging around the fringes ready to go. A little annoying but not enough to put me off.

This is conveniently located for shoppers and travellers alike, right in the centre of the concourse of Grand Central shopping centre next to New Street Station. Great selection of sushi etc and at standard takeaway prices. All nicely presented in boxes and the till service is quick. Seating is on view to passers by but you have plenty to look at! I love the food there. I would definitely recommend it for a quick snack despite the location being a little noisy.

The house special dragon roll was my favorite, prawn tempura wrapped with eel and tobiko in a nice bbq mayo sauce. The Ten Ichi ramen is the way to go to have it all. Prawn tempura, tasty fried chicken, mushrooms, wakame, naruto and tofu. Only thing missing was the half egg. Noodles were too soft soaking up the tonkatsu broth. The pork katsu ramen was average, egg breaded pork was not as crispy as the fried chicken. Side of vegetable tempura was a nice assortment of delicious veggies. Overall it was a pleasant experience in a comfortable setting. Great date spot with something for everyone.

Its pretty close to where the old restaurant was and the development is full of other great restaurants and eateries. We took a seat and started taking a look at the many hot and cold options moving around in front of us. There is always a good selection of sushi, noodles, vegetables and tempura on offer although if there is something that you really want and you cant see on the belt, the chefs are usually more than happy to make up dishes on request for you. All of the dishes we had on this visit were fresh and well presented as always. The only way you can have sushi here is on the 'all you can eat' option, it is £12 per person and it really is amazing value given the quality of the food you get. I also really like that this is an all you can eat because if you want to take a less experienced sushi goer to the restaurant, they have a chance to try a large range of dishes and decide what they like without spending a fortune on things they are not so sure about! I mean fresh, wonderful, just-caught-in-the-Pacific-Ocean-that-day, melt-in-your-mouth-doesn't-taste-like-fish sushi and sashimi. Typically, in Los Angeles, a friend and I could order so much sushi we left looking like California Rolls, for under $20. I've yet to find a suitable replacement in the UK. But while my quest continues, I've sampled some very decent sushi, including the offerings at Shogun, a Noodle Bar and sushi restaurant in The Mailbox Centre in Birmingham. For £10 all you can eat, Shogun's sushi offerings are not to be missed. The nice thing about sushi is that its great taste fills you up and never lets you down -- but unlike Bud Light, it actually tastes good. If you're in Birmingham for a day of shopping, instead of paying a fortune for a sit-down dinner at a twee chain or opting for fast food, head over to The Mailbox, or Brindleyplace to either of Shogun's venues. If you prefer the thrills of teppanyaki, there is a 10-person grill in the Japanese semi-circle style, with the Teppanyaki chef slicing, dicing and sizzling your food in front of your eyes. Or head to the left and have a seat at the traditional ovular sushi bar, such as you'd see in Yo! Sushi or find in Japan. The food is served up and placed on small plates and sent through from the kitchen on a round conveyor belt. It then passes scintillatingly in front of customers who grab their plates of choice and commence gobbling. Unlike traditional sushi bars, where the plates are ordered by grade and priced accordingly, Shogun allows you to eat as many plates of yummy fishy-fish as you can without embarassing yourself in front of fellow diners. Fare includes traditional nigiri sushi (fish placed on top of rice or seaweed), maki sushi (rice, fish and fillings inside seaweed roll), and inari (fried bean curd cases over rice or fish), but also vegetable and prawn tempura, fried rice and a few small noodle dishes. Drinks include Asahi and Sapporo beers, the always popular with cool kids sake, and various teas and soft drinks. The food at the all-you-can-eat sushi baris definitely passable and nothing to complain about, but also nothing to write home about. The teppanyaki and a l carte sushi and sashimi are definitely of a higher quality, and priced accordingly. Still, two people could expect to eat a tasty meal for under £25. Unfortunately for Shogun, the service at their Mailbox restaurant is very poor. The younger women who work there are very polite, and the sushi chefs are always happy and chatty. Unfortunately, there are two older women there whose manner with customers is approaching abusive. When we go in, they bark at us to "sit here please!", and if we ask to be seated elsewhere, we are scowled at. Still, if grumpy but swift service doesn't bother you, have some tasty Japanese treats for a tenner. Your inner samurai will thank you.
