So grateful that the golf courses are now open and available during the Safer at Home order. My husband and I visited Washington County Golf Course for the first time last weekend. It was a great first experience. We were still able to rent a golf cart, which was a huge relief for me as we were doing 18 holes. I'm not a regular golfer so I can't speak to the course, except to say I enjoyed it. It was extremely windy the entire time, like you couldn't hear someone standing five feet away if they were upwind.. so that part was an adventure. Not sure if that is typical. Everything seemed to be in good working order. The only reason I dropped a star is lack of portapotties/bathrooms while out on the course. Playing 18 you end up back at the clubhouse (like normal) so we made our overdue bathroom break then and just didn't drink much water while out on the course. They are renting golf carts to people in the same households and the clubhouse is open for one person at a time to use the bathroom to maintain the social distancing. read more

I really wavered on this one. Four stars? Five Stars? The more I look back on my round, I'm going to go with five stars. Lemme tell you why... This is a beautiful golf course. I can see why it's highly regarded in the region. It's links style - so more rolling terrain and tall grass boundaries and not as many trees. Sounds great, but the more you hit out of that tall, this fescue, you'll be wishing you were punching out from under a tree with your three iron... This is especially true during your first round on the course - not knowing distances and tendancies, it's hard to tell which clubs to hit in what situations. I imagine the more rounds you log on this course, the fescue hazards get more scenic and less frustrating. There is some elevation change on the course, but nothing that would kill you if you walked. The surrounding area is gorgeous, often with a great view of Holy Hill in the distance. You kinda feel like you're on an every-man's Erin Hills. The course was in great shape for September. The greens were true and quick. Not *fast* like some high-end courses, but you still needed to be careful. The fairways had their share of divots laying around, but that's normal. They had good bounce and roll - couldn't complain. The layout of the course was exceptional. While some holes didn't play long (3 par fours right around 300 yards from the white tees), they're not just straight grip-it-and-rip-it shots - you have to consider the water down to the left, or the bunker where the fairway turns. I like having to make a decision and use my brain a bit instead of just jack my driver on a long, wide fairway. Kudos, WCGC, for creativity. We were provided a "box lunch" at the turn as part of our outing. It was a simple ham or turkey sandwich, but props to their deli for doing it well. The ingredients were fresh and tasty - not just any sandwich. I would certainly plan to grab a bite while there. All the staff were super friendly. I had a couple nice conversations with folks that worked there. They obviously loved their job, the course they work for, and the customers that pass through. So what makes this a potential four stars versus five? For me, it's a combination of distance (1.5 hours of driving) and cost. There are many courses closer to me that play just fine, so it will take something special to get me to haul down to Hartford for a round. In this recent case, it was a golf league outing. The nice thing is that you can find some good rates online that might invoke a road trip. If the right opportunity comes along, I'll throw the sticks in the car and make the pilgrimage down to this great course. read more

We played a round at Washington County GC last weekend, and are so glad we chose this course. I haven't played here in many years, but the course is as fine as I remember. The course is fairly open, so even a casual golfer (like my wife) can play here without feeling intimidated. It has a great links feel, and does remind me a bit like Erin Hills, with a few more trees and less difficulty. The day we came, the weather was perfect. Sunny, light breeze, and few clouds. Our experience started with a friendly check in at the pro shop. Every staff member we interacted with was helpful and professional. They all showed pride in their work, and made our experience memorable. From the pro shop, to the Marshall, to the snack bar, to the beverage cart, all A+ service. For the course itself, it was perfect. Fairways nicely groomed, greens in pristine shape, and the fescue intimidating. You can be rewarded by keeping the ball on the short grass. But get in the long stuff and you can drop some shots. I ended up 2 shots under average thanks to a lucky hole out on #7. Can't wait to play here again. This was one of my favorite courses to have played in a long time! read more

I love this course and have played it many times. Definitely a 5 star course but unfortunately today it had 3 star service. Tee off on time only to be behind a slow foursome that kept getting farther and farther behind. After making the turn in 2:35 minutes , we see a 7 some in front on number 10. We went into pro shop and the worker knew exactly what the problem was. He stated that the girlfriends didn't wake up in time and joined them on 10. He went out and spoke to them, but that did not solve the problem. He should not have added the three some out in front of a foursome making the turn. It was slower now. Very disappointing! Classic - each hole has an easier "way or a risky shorter way. Bent grass fairways. Quiet. Designed to remind you you're in the Kettle Moraine area. Beautiful views all the way to Holy Hill. This is just a really great golf course! Lots of tees to choose from. Beautiful setting and very good greens....maybe best in area! Very good staff and service! Very inexpensive for county residents. Maybe could use a little better marshalling to keep play moving but not much else to complain about. Would play it again for sure!! read more

So you like golf sports fans? If you haven't played Wash, you are seriously missing out. This is a links style course so the good news is not trees. The bad news is with the course being so wide open the wind is normally howling! The price is right and the 4 tee boxes make this course playable for most skill levels. If you love golf you have to get there! This is a must play! read more
