I've had several okay interactions with Washoe County Sheriff's Office "WCSO" over the years at each years National Championship Air Races and Sun Valley Nevada Annual Veterans Appreciation Breakfast https://www.yelp.com/biz/sun-valley-neighborhood-center-sun-valley. At one or the other I've met the elected Sheriff, several sworn Deputies, several volunteer Reserve Deputies, and several administrative staff. Their Press Releases on their website are well-written (FAR better than Reno PD or Sparks PD press releases). I have no complaints. Make us to choose the harder right instead of the easier wrong, and never to be content with a half truth when the whole can be won. WCSO has stepped up to help out Veterans. WCSO is now on the front lines of fighting to reduce the staggering and horrifying number of Veterans who daily succumb to suicide at the rate of more than twice that of non-Veterans. In 2000, WCSO recognized the special burdens of alienation and terrible toll Veterans carry from their military Service and created Veterans Barracks to house up to 60 male Veterans. Program includes the addition of Veterans' familiar resources from the US Department of Veterans Affairs and Veterans organizations. WCSO staff works to help Veterans in jail get out of jail and stay out by acknowledging their military Service and building programs centered on Veterans' shared experiences. "The ultimate goal is to reduce recidivism amongst our Veteran population in Washoe County," said Sgt. Andrew Venn, who is part of the Inmate Management Unit at WCSO. "We bring in very specific targeted programming just for those Veterans, so the classes they'll have available, for example, anger management, domestic abuse, substance abuse, and parenting are four major ones." Deputy Shannon Aller, who has a degree in psychology, said "The reason that we're doing that -- not only for us as an agency to track recidivism and see what's working, but to make sure that what we are putting in this unit is what they need." Venn said once he introduced himself as a Veteran to the inmates who are Veterans, "the change was instantaneous. They went from being standoffish and protective of their personal space to unifying under their shared identity as Veterans. The idea of peer support came up almost immediately and that is not something you hear walking around a jail," said Venn. An inmate told Venn, 'We're Veterans first.' WCSO partners with Truckee Meadows Community College to offer education for inmates along with representatives from Reno Job Connect, who visit biweekly to prepare inmates for a job search once released. Since 2020, WCSO have partnered with Northern Nevada State Veterans Home with their 'Operation Gift A Vet'. Some 86 female and male Veterans living at this Veterans Home are asked to write down three things they want for Christmas-- and their wishes are hung on the tree for the WCSO employees to collect and grant. Requests have been for slippers to blankets to compression socks to robes. According to Yelp ratings' definitions, 3 Stars is "Ok". That to me is an acceptable rating of a business that does day in and day out what they are in business to do. WCSO gets another star for their work with Veterans. Christmas Day 1862, a grateful nation showed its appreciation for sacrifices of the US Army and Navy with dinners for some 35,0000 sick and wounded soldiers and sailors in hospitals in and near the nation's capital. President Lincoln and the First Lady attended the event--one of the more extraordinary of its kind during the American Civil War. "Nowhere else in the world than in America," a New York newspaper wrote, "could have been the sight which has made this holiday in Washington remarkable and memorable - spread by the hands of individual benevolence." Elizabeth Smith, wife of Lincoln's Secretary of the Interior, was a driving force behind this Christmas Day event. Financial contributions for the event poured in from individuals, businesses and states. (Indiana contributed $700, and $2,500 was collected in Philadelphia.) Food came from throughout the Union. The cashier working today, Wednesday, August 20 at 4:00 PM, was very disrespectful and treated people poorly. I understand that some people may be here because of certain circumstances, but that should not affect the way customers are treated. Everyone else was very nice, except for this woman at the cashier and the man in visiting. I felt that I was treated very poorly and differently compared to how the cashier spoke to the person behind me. I am pro Cop/Sheriff so don't get this twisted and have always tried to do the right thing first. In the past whenever I have had an issue at my property I have looked up the NRS# on the Nevada State website to be sure I was placing a report in the proper context. Of the 3 times I have called on different issues, the Sheriff that returned my call told me it's a "Civil Issue" and that I was basically wasting their time (destruction of property, obstruction of mail, etc). When I referenced the NRS#'s the officer laughed and said, "I don't know each one off the top of my head!". I asked him to look it up so I could file my report but he refused to do so or help. I live in North Valleys, so coyotes are a daily thing on my property. Along with Bobcats and Mountain Lions on the occasion. This past weekend on 1/18/26 at 2000 hours I heard horrific screaming from an animal just outside my house. I ran out there with my rifle equipped with a 1600-Lumens flashlight. I soon found a pack of 3 coyotes killing one of my neighbors' dogs that must have gotten out. They recently built an all rental only home subdivision just off my property, so I was reluctant to shoot fearing someone would call the Sheriffs office about a firearms discharge within city limits. Instead, I pushed the coyotes up the mountain to get them away from the subdivision. I chased them for 30-40 minutes hearing the poor dog screaming the entire time until they lost me in the dark and sage brush. Next day I called the non-emergency number at the Washoe Sheriffs office on Parr Blvd asking to please speak with an officer educated on the matter of coyotes and discharging a firearm in city limits. Once I said Coyotes the woman on the phones tone immediately changed. She literally said "We Wont Respond To That!" and said for me to contact Department of Wildlife. I again asked about just information on discharging a firearm in general within city limits. She again said to contact Department of Wildlife that the Sheriff's office could not help me. I placed a call with Department of Wildlife days ago on the captain's VM but have no call back as of yet. Sounds a bit like the wild wild west out here, which is totally fine with me. It's a good thing I have great neighbors who look out for each other since its sound like Sheriffs office could care less in most all cases it seems. I appreciate that this place offers inmates good communication. Apparently my wife is able to see photos call text etc from a tablet provided by this facility. Phone access only a couple hours after helped me communicate and calm my wife during this hard time. The processing times and procedures take a long time though. No one really WANTS to go to the Washoe County Sheriff's Department; but if you have to use the Civil Department, you will be met by the friendliest people! I am honestly so appreciative of how patient they were while walking me through the paperwork to submit papers to be served for a court date. It literally took 5 minutes, because I had my appropriate court documents. From my initial phone call to get the estimated cost to have the papers served, to how simple the process was once in office, it was the least stressful part of my small claims. Faxed over my restraining order yesterday 3/21/2022 So they could deliver it as soon as possible for my safety because of these individuals constantly beating me on the drive way. Then deny it. I can't even go out to my garage. Take my dog out for a walk. Even leave my apartment. The police are not even responsible when they do they seem to be n the assaulting people side. I called the courts that faxed it over yesterday to the sheriffs department to get served quickly but they've denying it ever got done. I called and it shows it got done right after it was issued by the courts. The polite helpful lady said she would follow up. Either way refax it to them today . See that it dies get delivered as soon as possible. I explained I can't even leave my house. I've been being beaten every day by these individuals. With no assistance by the Reno police department. In fact they now are taking the abusers side now. They even refused to serve the order why they were on property knowing it had been already issued in these sane individuals. Or the police officer helping them refused to serve them. He has not been helpful o. A few occasions. The officer helping me was trying to assist me but when they discussed the situation together they changed their attitude. The courts dud assist me. Now the sheriffs are dropping the ball. Let's see how long it takes for them to deliver it. Last time they gave me mine. I think it took them over a week or more for her. The one that's causing all the problems. The manager of South Ridge Apartments Wendy Roland had claimed from what I hear as I have been attacked with a concussion, gauged eyes; that person was arrested for assault and batt. Ok so I had a horrible experience with a hot headed sheriff a few months ago being approached in a gas station while I was filling up. That only added to my disappointment in the agency. Although few days ago I was pulled over by a a lady officer and she must have seen the debacle that caused me to lose my cool and speed around the brake checking group in front of me she stopped me dont know my speed but my truck has 650hp and 1480lbs of torque so probably was a little fast. Officer moon was the problem. He doesn't treat people like people. I was denied my phone call because i was unable to work the phone and was told to ask him how it works and he refused to tell me how the phone works. He had received a list of my allergies but the only food he served that wasnt covered in mold and fungus was the oranges that multiple people informed him of. Which after 16 hours into my 12 hour holding time i ate. afterwards i asked for some allergie medication from the medical wing which he was standing 15feet from. His only response was to tell everyone to sit down and shut up. Because i wasnt the only person having the same problem. Im out now and was still denied any medical attention because of him. Absolutely disgusting. Based off of the view and treat people I think that there should be a lot more investigating going on at this establishment. Don't think the deputy that was arrested for lewd acts on a minor in 2021 is the only one. They not not supported a hotel stealing a total of $354 from me, they arrested me for trespassing because the bartender cussed me out and called my girlfriend horrible things. He continued to bounce around behind the bar flipping me off but was never even talked to by officers. I had drank a bit of liquor and upon many request in jail was refused water for over 11 hrs! Even tho I stated multiple times that I needed water and felt as if I was going to pass out with super chapped lips. The ruffed me up and treated me worse then it would be legal to treat a animal. Then after the whole thing ask if I have a disability. With severe ptsd it was the worst experience of my life the social worker and 1 officer that brought me water at almost 12 hrs in were the only decent beings in that establishment. Most the officers were joking around and hardly even working, not to mention the relationships that were very obvious between coworkers. I stayed here a few times, usually on a weekend but my last stay was 44 days. The food was ok but they are best known for their cat food sandwitches and the pudding desert and cookies were AMAZING!! They even had a Friday night movie with ice cream and popcorn. Yum yum.... My stay would have been longer but they gave me a great Public Defender that was buget friendly and did a great job. I can honestly say that it had its ups and downs but overall not a bad place once you get over you withdrawal with a complementary detox. I only have it 3 stars because the bedding is thin and a few of the employees had unesessary attitude issues. read more

I used to drink. A lot. And it never really mixed so well with the tranquilizers I take for anxiety. I usually had about a 15 minute window of making sense before blacking out completely and engaging in something illegal or destructive. It was Hunter S. Thompson's birthday. A local bookstore was having a celebration with a birthday cake and lots of Wild Turkey. I went over after work and had some cake and had some Turkey. A lot of Turkey. Maybe 15 or 16 Wild Turkeys. But I didn't feel it at first. So, I said goodbye to the nice owners and walked over to the bus stop in order to go home. It kicked in after about five minutes of waiting. I decided to hoof it to downtown Reno toward the casinos. I played a little blackjack at the Cal Neva. Then I went to the next place and played some more. I lost. I won. I lost. I blacked out. I ended up at Circus Circus with a dollar in my pocket when I came out of the blackout. I found myself outside, taking a well-earned leak, right on the leather of a Reno deputy's shoes. I finished up as he danced out of the way. He was not happy. Him and his partner said that I had had too much to drink and asked me where my car was. I don't have a car, so that was good. No drunk driving possibility. Still, I had urinated on a cop's shoe and he wasn't happy. So, they gave me a ride up to the jail and had me sitting in a chair and waiting after arresting me. I got out of one of the handcuffs and was starting to work on the second one figuring I could just walk out of there and go home to bed, where I wanted to be. But they didn't want me to. They wanted me to stay the night and experience the local hospitality. I said okay, and was pushed into the exercise room/drunk tank, where I sat in a chair and started screaming. The cop said my BAC was .23. He said that was high. I hadn't made reservations, but luckily they had room for me. I made a lot of noise and kicked a guy who came after me who had pissed his pants and was going around pissing, puddling up the other seats. I only piss on cop shoes. So, morning came along and they took me out to let me go. But first I was breathalyzed again. I was given a minute to drink water from a fountain and and swish it around my mouth first. I puked a little in my mouth and swallowed it down instead of spitting it out, at the cop's request. It was just as filling as any continental breakfast at a Holiday Inn. I took the breath test and was still flying high at .12. Too drunk to be released. But management stood right up and accommodated me immediately with another chair back in the tank. I didn't see the maid leave, but that chair was completely piss-free. Unless it had dried. But now I was hungover and feeling miserable and was nodding off. A few hours later, they got me up again and gave me another test. I blew a .07 and was all ready to go. They gave me my belt back, my shoes, my wallet, my phone--all obviously freshly cleaned. I signed the guest register and promised to meet them downtown in court in a month to discuss my visit and let them know how I liked it. All in all, the price was right, the officers were absolutely lovely, the staff was helpful...it was a great stay. They took great care of me. I was arrested at my home as I drove up as a passenger with my child into my driveway there were officers waiting. I had picked my child up from the after school program as I have for the last two years. I ran out of the house and forgot my purse. When I got to the program they asked for my I.D. which is when I realized I had forgotten my purse. We were on a tight schedule so we got in the car and left. We came home and got into the other vehicle as passengers and met up with our friends. When we got home I wanted to take my child into the house get my I.D. and go outside to talk with the officers. They would not allow me or my child into the house. The driver offered to take my child into the house they said "no". They then proceeded to arrest me in front of my child. By now there are 3 cop cars and a patty wagon. My child was made to sit in the cop car and watch. They transported me to jail and the child to social services that he eventually ended up at his fathers home. The child has two very loving, safe homes that get along with one another. I thought we were supposed to be protected by the law . I would rate with negative stars if that were an option. I understand the importance of child protection in this sick world. However, one size does not fit all. This very well adjusted young person that has a split family that has his interest in mind in the highest degree has been traumatized by the police.
