So have enjoyed and will continue to enjoy the Longview library. I like to say libraries have saved…read moremy life... its just amazing how you can find what you really need and it almost seems like it finds its way to you. Longview library is no exception. When it comes to my main interests since I've been here, like health and wellness, they have some of the latest new books by top people when I look for them, such as How Not to Die, by Dr. Michael Greger, MD! The staff for the most part is the best I've ever known in any library, especially David Hamblin. Always ready with a warm smile and ready to help with any questions or need, although he has now moved to the geneology department so I don't see him as much. Which is another point, they have a whole separate area for looking up ancestry and important local historical records. Pretty cool! They also have regular events! One of the best is "Chappaqua" in the spring, where they reach out by providing a fun day outside, with vendor booths and live music by others in the community. Lastly, I love getting audio books on CD and they have a great selection of both CDs and DVDs. It's a big library with lots of stuff. A great children's section as well-- You should go check them out!! :)

I believe the library offers superb service to the community. I am signing up today for the Summer…read more Reading Program for my 6 yr. old Genealogy is my hobby and I wish they had a section in the library for this.

It's a very stately building and is located in the middle of the downtown area. The staff was friendly and helpful. As a visitor to the area, I didn't know what type of system they had to be able to use the Internet. But they had a guest pass system that allowed me to gain access to the Internet. I was a bit bummed that the children's department was as small as it was. I was surprised that it wasn't larger. Being that this was the main library for the Shreveport system, I was surprised that the collection wasn't as up to date as you would think a main library would be. For instance, I found old tax guides on the shelf from the early 1990s. Tax laws change yearly so keeping anything more than several years old is just obsolete after a while. I was also surprised that I was unable to locate any library catalog computers. Since I was there with my dad, we decided to make the trip worthwhile beyond just checking email. We decided to see if they had any books on Clementine Hunter, the primitive artists that we learned about at the Melrose Plantation. I looked for any computers that said library catalog, but couldn't find any. So I just decided to use the Internet computers to do my search. Thankfully, I know my way around a library catalog and quickly located some biographies on Clementine. A good thing to note about this library is that they are a government depository, meaning they have a government documents collection. So, if you're researching congressional hearings or legislation, you can find information here. Also, they have a petroleum documents collection for your oil industry research.

FYI - the iBistro system is on the same computers that you can use for internet access. you can…read morealso access the system through the internet. the children's section downtown is probably lacking because it is DOWNTOWN... The entire Shreve Memorial system covers Caddo parish and consists of neighborhood libraries that cater to the population.

The librarian will give you a tour and share with you the history of this beautiful building. Not the usual type or style of building you would find in a small east Texas town. Built in 1934 during the Big oil Boom. In addition to being a Beautiful library, we spent a little time in the children's section. Great selection of titles and genres for all levels of readers. On the bulletin board we quickly checked out some of the summer activities. We live out of town. But if we were local this would be a place we would frequently come too.
