Every question I asked was answered in full detail. Lama Sean is very friendly and open to all. I enjoyed the meditation and chanting. This is the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism lead by the 17th Karmapa who personally visited the center on May 4th 2015 The building is blessed and very sacred. Just going in you can see how much time and effort people have put into the center and have done so with much loving kindness. There is weekly practice Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM practice is Shinay (Calm Abiding Meditation) and chanting. The chanting is done in Tibetan and if anyone is not comfortable in chanting its encouraged to simply read the words quietly to yourself and just enjoy the meditation. Visiting Lama's come every few months for weekend teachings and they are not to be missed! Please do some research and explore the vast teachings Buddhism has to offer. I agree with the other post - if you are thinking of visiting a Buddhist temple experience Karma Thegsum Choling in Cicero, IL. Hours open are limited but if you come on a Sunday you can request an introduction to meditation.

He is a shaman in a modern city. This man, Lama Lobsong performs these ceremonial massages, putting one thousand percent into of his energy and spirit into each treatment he does. He is strong and powerful and has a beautiful calm spirit. He is super intuitive and very genuine. He is a Tibetan monk; and his space has several beautiful Buddhist alters. I feel like I just crossed over into the secret society of ceremonial massage. I am so grateful I found him because I also will be attending his Saturday meditation sessions......he is so authentic and will not remain a secret for much longer. So glad I took the chance.....he will transform your life and thinking. And assist you in feeling whole again.

In short, whoever you may be, your presence is a gift, and Benedictine monks have time and again made me feel cared for. Many Benedictine monasteries have a guesthouse or guest rooms, should you be seeking a place to stay, rest, and spend time in retreat or stillness. When my family was planning a couple of days in Chicago, we were happy to find the Monastery of the Holy Cross, holding holy and hospitable space for us in a quiet part of Bridgeport. Father Edward, monastery guest master, made us welcome in the monastery's three-bedroom guest quarters, and were invited as we wished to join them for any of the seven times of daily prayer and worship and to take part in a silent, simple continental breakfast. Fr. Edward was earnest, kind, and funny, engaging both us and our kids with warmth and openness. When we came to their 7:15 PM Compline service, prayed and sung almost in total darkness in the chapel space, Fr. Gregory quietly explained what was about to happen and how we could take part in it. It was a beautiful, powerful experience. The guest space where the six of us stayed had three bedrooms - one with a single bed, two with doubles - and a couch in the sitting area that our youngest claimed as his place to sleep. The kitchen was simply appointed, with a dorm-sized refrigerator, microwave, sink, and twin-burner cooktop. There are two other such guest quarters available as well, all appointed in a similar fashion. Each guest quarters has its own private entrance, and there's a gravel parking lot immediately adjacent to the monastery for free off-street parking. The monks ask guests for a free will offering for the use of these quarters, allowing those who can pay more to offset the cost for those able to pay less. This - as with all aspects of the warmth and welcome of Monastery of the Holy Cross - made us (and undoubtedly those who preceded and will follow us) deeply aware of the kindness that human beings can show to one another, greeting even strangers as fellow travelers and friends.

We stayed in the bottom floor space which had a full bed in one room, twin in another, and a full kitchen, formal dining room, and living room all with free lot parking and private entrance. Lots of towels/extra sheets as well as toiletries in the bathroom. The Monks were very kind and welcoming--we attended morning chanting and were given a quick overview of the process so we weren't lost. It's not in the hustle and bustle of the Loop but conveniently close via uber or bus/train. We had the best time staying here and would love to return!
