Otherwise, it's off leash just like at a dog park and it may not be a pleasant experience for you. The people part of the beach seemed nice but I couldn't go explore as we had our dog with us. It's a pretty spot for sure, but I'd rather go down to another beach/lake area which is much larger in order to have a better/easier experience when traveling with my pups, which is often so there's that.

I went in May of 2010 and there was only one, very minimal stream flowing at that time. The "beginner" trail is very tame with little elevation change. The trails, though, do not seem to be signed as well as they could. It is a great place, though, to get away from town without having to drive that far. The second time I went was for a 2 or 3 mile trail run with a friend. Aside from the bug dust (a very fine and dry type of dirt/ dust that is common around this area), it is a great place to get into trail running if you haven't done it before.

It was pretty - not breathtaking, and probably not a vacation destination, but definitely a good place to camp for the night if you're traveling through and want to avoid paying $33+ for a tent space at the KOA right off the freeway.

I have been staying at the wonderful Big Chief Motel in Battle Mountain for years as part of my…read moreannual trek from San Francisco to Jackson Hole and always enjoyed taking my last dog and current dog to this park, which is so pleasant, walking around on leash, and relaxing a bit on the benches. I hadn't been able to make it through for the last couple of years and, so, coming back today I was thoroughly delighted to find that the city has added a small, fully-fenced dog park at one corner of the entire park. It is perfect and we spent a good hour here until taking off on the road. Do note that they do not have doggie bags nor a water fountain in the dog park, but on the other side of the park is a water supply (pump with handle). The dog park does have two picnic tables, though, so you could really make a nice time of it with your dog. And since this is the very first review of Lion's Park I'll add in here that it is a very nice grassy park with lots of trees, so great shade during the hot summers, picnic tables, grills, and even a fenced-in horseshoe area -- and one of the prime attractions is a fancy modern playground with a lot of fun slides and other climbing structures that will keep your child very happy (and busy!). Battle Mountain has done a great job with this park -- one that has a little something for everyone -- and I'll look forward to our visits for years to come.

We were pleased with the automated Kiosk at the gate. $20 for non-resident. There are vault toilets, however we discovered that the facilities near site 23 is actually a nice flush toilet with warm showers. This will no doubt be our stop-over when coming home from Idaho.

Fee was 15 dollars a night and I must say that's a pretty good damn price for such a nice campground that is well kept. Since we were just staying a night, we parked in an empty lot on the top of the left hand side of the campground. It was all gravel and had access to potable water. We were advised not to keep the hose attached, but was not an issue for us. There was an irrigation lid that resembles a sewage connection, but it did not appear to be one given there were rock down the pipe. There was a dump station free of charge so we were good to go. Definitely one of my favorite campgrounds.
