I'm a big Warwickshire fan but I feel like they take advantage of the fans which is why no one…read moregoes. Tonight the T20 match was supposed to start at 6.30, it was raining. I understand that the club can do nothing about the rain, but sat in the stands the updates are sporadic at best. Despite the rain drying up shortly after the proposed start time there was very little information passed to the fans until the game was called off about an hour before the final deadline. I get that they are at the mercy of the elements but they do nothing to make you feel like they appreciate your support. They refused to refund me 50p for a scorecard which I can clearly never use, obviously not a big hit to my bank account but why be so petty. Overall my evening consisted of buying expensive beer in plastic cups and less than average food on the promise of sport which in the absence of information it can only be assumed was never going to happen. I've had some great times at this ground but won't be going back until they show me some respect when I'm there instead of e-mailing me twice a week to sell me things.

Admittedly, its not an opinion that's too widely shared but you'll just have to go with me on this one. Edgbaston Cricket Ground has changed markedly since I first rocked up here as an 11 year old to watch the mighty Bob Willis bowl off a run-up that seemingly started somewhere in the vicinity of the car park. The most significant of these changes have taken place over the last year or so with the £30m redevelopment of the ground incorporating a new member's stand and press and corporate facilities that could even put a smile on Geoff Boycott's face. As the majority of these redevelopments have been on the Edgbaston Road side of the ground this has transformed the whole look of the place, making it more welcoming and providing an arena to be proud of. In contrast to the stadia of other sports (I'm looking at you now football) the seating here allows plenty of leg-room. Crucial when your legs are as long as mine. For higher profile games there are numerous burger vans and snack bars dotted around the concourse and there are several public bars around the ground serving that aforementioned cider and other beverages. The only drawback is the price - around £4 a pint. Ouch. As I write, England are due to appear here shortly and Warwickshire CCC are having an excellent season, so let's get behind our local team. As council run leisure centres go, this is one of the better ones…read more Living in the city this is the easiest/closest to get to on the train. I get on at Birmingham New Street and Stetchford is just 1 or 2 stops away depending on the train and time. Costing me just £1.60 (With a railcard) The facilities here are the best I've found without having to join an expensive gym/health club. Offering a full 25m pool as well as two smaller pools and of course the "cascades" in a separate and enclosed area. This offers a great space for kids to have fun and for me it means they don't crowd the main pool allowing you to swim lanes in peace. It can get busy from 4-7 so I tend to get there for 8pm and swim an hour which I usually do 80 lengths. This costs me £4.30. The changing rooms and showers are decent and usually pretty clean, no need to sanitise yourself upon exiting. Friends of mine use the gym and the classes, such as RPM, which they praise. You can even top up your tan here, apparently.

Midland is as about as friendly as it gets for a sailing club…read more OK, I admit it's my home club and I am biased, but I am not the only one who says so, all the members do, and that MUST be a good sign. There is nothing like a sailing club for a sense of friendship and community, people from all walks of life, of all ages and 'varieties', all sharing a common love of the water and 'messing about in boats'. Be honest, how often do you find that in the middle of a big city? For you competitive types (OK I put my hand up!), there is racing on Saturdays throughout the year, whatever the weather...only the ice stops the Midland crew from the starting gun...and Wednesday evenings during the more inclement seasons. If you watched Ben Ainslie become the most celebrated Olympic sailor in 2012 and wondered what it was all about, there are plenty of training courses on offer to find out for yourself. With club boats for hire for less than a pint (that's the price of a pint in town, not in the club bar) you can throw away any assumptions about sailing being for the rich. A particular shout out goes to the junior training sessions where all ages are welcome, from 'cheeky little monkeys' to stroppy 'I hate everything' teens, on Saturday mornings, catering for complete beginners to those who fancy their chances as the next Ben. Kids are coached by sailors who compete in national and international championships. But, more importantly, the sessions are run by volunteers who love nothing better to pass on their passion for sailing and make it FUN. Amazing attraction even if you don't dive!…read more We came across this place today and I was absolutely amazed by it! There were divers everywhere and supposedly there is a submarine, double decker bus, airplane and all sorts sunken here! It was cool to watch the divers in action. There is also a good little pub where you can sit and watch what's going on out in the water!

We took our dog here last weekend following the recommendations here on Yelp. I've lived in…read moreBirmingham for 14 years and didn't even know the place existed despite having driven past it many times! Wow. What a place. The fist thing that struck me was how big it is for saying that I never knew it was there. A huge open golf course area (which is not your usual fancy pants golf club - dog walkers were very welcome), a children's play area and a beautiful wooded area. There is also a cafe but we didn't try that out. The paths are well kept and there are many dog waste bins. I didn't spot any dog mess on the ground - clearly it's a park for well behaved dog owners!! I was also struck by how well kept it is. The people who care for the park obviously take great pride in the park. There are some lovely sculptures and boards showing the history of the park. Absolutely loved it and it's now on our regular dog walking rota! I've deducted one point because the car park is tiny - we visited in February and it was very full so I imagine that in summer it's a nightmare. It did look as though there would be decent street parking around re area though.

We may take trees for granted but after one of Chris's walk and talk events you'll be forever hugging trees everywhere and telling them just how fabulous they are. A learn how to identify birds walk and talk by Liz Coleman who's an RSPB volunteer will get you twitching like crazy, you'll be amazed just how many birds we have flying about us. or you could just use the park to have a wander. It's 100 acres, about 4 miles from the city centre, offers free parking and is another of Birmingham's fantastic retreats.
