They also sell a range of birds and lots of bits and bobs to cater for all you pets and pets to be. They sell bird food, fish food, dog and cat food, a wide range of toys for cats and digs, scratch posts, beds of all sizes, litter, litter trays and all sorts of little bits and bobs you just wouldn't find in the pet isle of the supermarket! It's a busy little shop, but if you don't like smelly pet shops then stay away as there is a bit of a stench when you take a wander inside!

We have bought quite a few goldfish from this store and while some have died unusually quickly, others have lasted to a good age, our current is two years old and is really healthy. I think the fish have been temperamental more than weak so I wouldn't blame bad stock on Pets Aloud. There's a really dense stock of dog food and toys I notice and great aviary supplies, my family would shop here for our canary's requirements until he flew to heaven. A very good store in all, and the shopkeeper's lovely. I didn't give five stars because they don't keep fluffy animals instore for me to pine over.

My partner and I visited the Westhoughton Pets at Home a couple of days before welcoming a new member to our family (Oakley ). We weren't sure what we needed for a puppy, so we asked Abi for help - and she was absolutely brilliant. Abi guided us through everything, from puppy essentials to setting Oakley up for success. We returned two days later (with Oakley!) and Abi once again went above and beyond - helping us choose the right food, explaining puppy nutrition, recommending toys and training aids, and answering all our questions. Abi is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and kind - you can see her genuine passion for what she does. Having worked in retail as a GM for almost a decade, I know it's rare to find someone who truly cares about the customer experience in this way. Pets at Home - you have an absolute star on your team. We hope Abi is recognised and valued for the difference she makes.

We have used their click and collect service, which can be a bit of a money saver with special online offers, but not necessarily convenient. For example, Mr. Snarky wanted to get a deluxe cat tree for the kittens (secretly I think it was for his enjoyment!) and could save 10% by ordering online and picking it up in store. So we did this. Since we had ordered on the same day and been able to pick up the carriers for the kittens on the same day, we just figured this would be ready same day. Turns out that the order wouldn't be ready until the next day, but we had already set off for Middlebrook. We went in to get kitten food and Mr. Snarky went to look to see if they had the tree in stock. They had the exact cat tree he had ordered sitting on the shelf, but they said that we couldn't pick up the order until the next day. Other than that, the staff are friendly and helpful, especially when we brought back a box of kitten food because it was open, which means it was starting to go off and smell. We bagged it up and took it back with the receipt and they let us exchange for another box no questions asked. They also have a nice selection of cat toys, which of course our kittens play with for about 10 minutes before playing with the box it came in or the kitty litter. We find their prices about average if not cheaper than getting their food or litter at the grocery store and they do have a loyalty card program which is easy to join and you can designate a charity that they will donate to. I might also really enjoy watching the big fluffy bunnies ;)

They do sell a fair variety of small tropical fish which are quite common as for most aquariums. The viewing area is rather tight being in a confined space but the staff are really helpful in providing you advice and tips whether you're a beginner or not. They greet customers when they enter the shop and often have regular customers there too, which is always a good sign. If you're looking to exchange fishes here, you might just be able to strike up a good deal. Smithdown Aquarium is occasionally worth the effort, especially if you have a passion for pet fish.
