The festival mainly is about different cultures among Kitchener and Waterloo area. Usually there is a big stage where people from different cultures perform. You could sit there and watch these performance while eating food. On the side there are people selling food from different countries. It is the only time in the year where you get to experience different food from different countries. Last but not least, there are people who are selling different goods from different countries. There were live animals (a petting zoo with horses, cows, chickens, goats, etc.), bunny hop show, k9 unit show, horse and carriage and horse riding competitions, local vendors and food trucks, tractor pulling contests, midway rides and games. While my toddler was too short to go on the rides, she did enjoy climbing and sitting in the stationary tractors. Some events (tractor pull) were quite loud and kicked up a lot of dust and black smoke. There was a small stage with live performers (we caught a performance where they played kids songs). There was a butter tart contest too, but we'd left before it started. Th ere were portable bathrooms all around and one regular bathroom with flushable toilets in the food area. Our entire family thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would definitely be back again next year. Tip: Park for free at the school across the street or just on the street. Admission is $10 for adults, free for kids under 5.

Ample free parking and tons of people to mingle with. Many celebrations were taking place in this venue while serving beer and traditional foods, and traditional dancing and live music, particularly polkas. There were stalls similar to a fair for games, snacks and foods etc. I wasn't sure of what to expect in terms of the standard but it was well done. Who knew Burlington's Ribfest was the largest in Canada? I had been hearing about it from multiple…read moresources leading up to it and figured if I was going to go to any ribfest in the GTA, it might as well be the largest one! It's held in the same location every year which is the the Burlington Lakefront along the Waterfront Trail. You can't miss the set up. There was an entrance point with big banners announcing Ribfest and its main organizer Rotary International. There was an optional donation for entry here but it wasn't clear what was benefiting from the donations. Once you got through, there was a small midway set up leading towards Brant Street Pier. We walked a bit along the waterfront trail to see the main food area. You can see the behind the scenes from the paved path. The green is where each of the stalls are set up. Each of the purveyors had a huge lattice of banners that advertised all their prizing from locations across Canada and the US. They also had tables in front of their stalls with all the hardware they won. Super impressive! Also at the front were generally staff that were giving out tasters of their BBQ sauce so you could try before you bought. Every place had ribs that came in the 1/3, 1/2, and full rack. They also varied in terms of what other meats (chicken, pulled pork, sausage) and sides (beans, mac and cheese, cornbread) they carried. All of the pricing was pretty similar so you weren't at risk of losing out on value anywhere. The ribs really were exceptional! We got them from two different stalls and both were fall off the bone and so tender. There were slight differences in sauce and I did end up preferring one over the other, but they were both really tasty. We also had a smoked sausage to try something else out that was different. I'd just stick with the ribs personally. All of the staff that we interacted with were exceptionally nice. The whole vibe was that everyone was there having a good time. At one place, there was a sign that said "Tip to make the crew oink". We weren't intentionally trying to see what would happen but the sign was spot on - everyone oinked haha. At another stall, our tip got us an extra end rib which was very kind of them to do. The lines were really good this year as it was a little rainy out and acted as crowd control. I've heard that in other years, you need to come with a big group so everyone can split up and line up at different stalls! We only had to wait 5 minutes or less for each place.

This is an excellent way to spend your Labor Day weekend; great food and lots of entertainment!…read more There are dozens of rib vendors from all over the US and Canada. Prices are reasonable, with tall boy cans of beer for $8. This year a full rack of ribs will cost you $25 and half rack for $15. I always stick to the ribs as they are always cooking them on the grill so they are nice and hot. The chicken breast is good too, but usually not as freshly cooked. They have two performance stages at either end of the park with bands playing all the time. There are lots of white high back chairs for sitting which makes for a comfortable time. If you can find a spot, you can park at a couple of the lots at the park, and parking is free at them after 6:00pm.

We missed the bread and honey and parade and races, but it was still a fun time.

It was hard to tell who were the festival staff / volunteers / actors, and who were the guests or attendees, because everyone was decked out in full-out pirate outfits, from head to toe. It certainly added to the mood of the festival! From the various shows (sword-fighting pirates, fire and axe juggling, aerial acrobatics) and interactive activities that everyone could take part in (learn to duel with swords (pirate-style), learn to whip, axe throwing, spear throwing, archery, gemstone mining, pirates' pub sing-alongs, photo ops on a pirate ship, mermaid grotto, treasure hunt, etc.), to pirate-themed vendors, food, and actors, this was certainly a step above the typical summer festivals you see in the city. I loved that all the actors (including the food & drink vendors) stayed in character the whole time (as different characters in the pirates world). Each day was packed with scheduled entertainment all day long, and there were plenty of activities for all ages. Aye, aye, Captain!

Sound of Music takes over the whole water front as well as several blocks of downtown. We strolled down Brant and passed several small stages along the way. We were able to get vegan soft serve and sit on a bench and listen to free live music. Parking was crazy as a result but we had a nice walk through some fancy neighborhoods and the free live music was quite a pleasant surprise.

There were lots of different local food options at this festival. From your typical festival food (fries, funnel cakes, etc), to Indian, Thai, and even Ethiopian. There was plenty of healthier options if that is more your taste. Keep in mind, the food section was rammed during dinnertime. Lots of lines and people trying to get through. It isn't easy and can be frustrating. There are multiple stages scattered throughout the park which offer a wide variety of music styles all weekend. I got to see a bit of Five Alarm Funk and the Samba Squad, both really great acts. People were dancing and having a great time. I really love the vendors at Sunfest. There are a lot from the Toronto area which adds a bit of variety in comparison to other festivals in Victoria Park. There are still tons of local vendors too which is nice because there are a ton of locally made products available. I don't get out to the markets as much as I should so its nice to see their wares displayed in the park. While this festival is super busy, it brings a welcome, positive buzz to the downtown core. Good vibes all around, I highly recommend!

I have attended four different ribfests this summer. This one in Woodbridge was my least favourite…read moreout of the batch. All ribfests that I have attended this year have been in drive-thru format, including this one. I headed over here a couple of Sundays ago. This year, it was held at the highways 7-400 Power Centre. I pulled into the entrance where the Leon's is. You couldn't access the ribfest from there, so I had to pull out and around to the only entrance available. There were a few things that put a damper on my experience. The first was getting a QR code presented to me by a volunteer. I am growing to dislike QR codes. This one was circular with the Rotary Club of Woodbridge logo smack in the middle of it. My guess is that my phone is sensitive to any QR code. If this QR code is tweaked or customized in some way, it won't work. Frankly, I would like to see both the QR code and URL to the site presented. Instead, I got a paper menu. I'd rather have that than any QR code! I am all for donating to a worthy cause. The minimum donation was $2. All donations went to Mackenzie Health. I did not have any cash and hoped that I could do debit. The alternative was to text a number and donate $10. I didn't like the lack of flexibility in donation amount. The Scarborough ribfest had a $5 denomination using your debit card if you didn't have cash. I was not pleased, especially when we are in a pandemic and cash is often not high on the acceptable payment list. The next aspect that was odd was getting dessert vendors in my face during this ribfest. The other three had dessert, drinks, and corn at the end of the drive-thru experience. I had one woman present dessert items that she was offering. It turned me off. I was here for the ribs. I want to order my ribs first! The pylons marking the lanes to the three vendors weren't clearly placed. I actually had to ask a volunteer where to go. If I need to ask for that sort of help with where the lanes are, it says a lot. I typically don't pose that question. There were three rib vendors. I decided to go with Uncle Sam's. The man taking my order was great. I got a full rack dinner that comes with coleslaw and beans. I paid using a credit card. I wish that there were an option to tip, but it didn't appear on the machine. I got my food in a paper bag fairly quickly. I thanked the man and drove over to Home Depot to have a late lunch in the comfort of my car. The baked beans were delicious. They were rich and so flavourful. They were gone immediately. I appreciated getting plastic cutlery. The three other places didn't give me many. Luckily, I always have some in my car. The coleslaw was one of the better ones that I have had. It had flavour and a crunch that I thoroughly enjoyed. Yum! The ribs were amazing. They had a generous amount of sauce that was smokey and amazing. The ribs were meaty and done perfectly. They were by far the best ribs that I have had out of all four ribfests, which made up for the horrible start that I got here. I'm not sure if I'd come back. If it ends up being a walk-in ribfest next year, I may give it a try so I don't get dessert shoved in my face before I get some ribs. (366)

Rain Rain goes away…read more.. All these rain made the 6th Annual Woodbridge Ribfest such a muddy one. I should have wore my rain boots! This is one of the smallest Ribfest I been to with only 5 ribbers. But what makes this ribfest different from others are the local craft beers from smaller breweries, a pizza vendors that make wood oven pizza on site and a taco vendor that roasting a pig on site for pork taco! Tons of other vendors promoting their services from photography studio, insurances and home improvement. Woodbridge Ribfest is A-OK if you are in the area and want to have some ribs, but definitely not worth a special trip for the event!
