Maybe drives and people are the same...the harder you try, the worse the shot ends up. (Tee boxes and fairways are great here. Tee boxes were aerated recently, but plugs were all gone. Center cut of fairways is narrow in places, but that makes it fun!) Playing from the tips, I can score in the 80's here, but scoring a long term friendship with people I care about seems to evade me. (Low scores at this course are generated by playing smart. With lots of creeks and water your shot selection needs to include several layups and specific yardages to put you in a good position to hit the green.) I can usually read a green better than I can read a person. However, the greens here are tough. You first think it will go left, but then you walk it and maybe it will go right, so you don't give up the cup and run it 4 feet past the hole to the right. (Sometimes you just have to go for it, even if failure is imminent.) A lot of people don't understand golf. A lot of people don't like golf, or those that play. That's ok...I don't understand a lot of people. Love the bridges, scenic views, and an obviously well cared for track.

So unless it changed in the 30 minutes it took us to drive their they're lying on their website, classy. We called in the morning for a tee time and were told we didnt need one. Upon arriving we were told the front 9 couldnt have carts on them so we had to play the back 9 twice. WHY had they not mentioned that in the morning when we called? Who wants to play the same holes twice and get over charged? The website lied to get you their and then when you call them they dont give you important information like half the course cant have carts on it. Worst golf course in the area. Never again will we go their. You want a good golf course in Mason, go to Eldorado. Their you can actually tell where the fairway ends and the grass starts too.

However, this past weekend I got the opportunity to play a full round of 18. I'm telling you now, don't pass judgment on this place. The back 9 is a hidden gem that is tucked away discreetly. You will enjoy lots of rolling hills and challenging shot over lakes, and a lot of rough. It's certainly a change from the front 9, which is wide open. The back is more closed off with the fairways lined with trees. Like I say..surprising and challenging. I will return.
