Awesome wedding venue!!! So well run, quick bartenders and food service. We were greeted by alpacas and beautiful scenery, shaded, grassy areas perfect for socializing with the crew. The cocktail hour was held in a separate building from the rest of the ceremony. There were a ton of food options for the cocktail hour. Charcuterie, a pasta bar with a delicious mushroom bolognese, and lots of drink options. Everything was beautiful, lots of decks and corners to round, and places to gather. Never had to fight anybody for a place to sit or anything. The actual reception room was large, but felt very intimate. The chairs were comfortable. The acoustics were good enough I could hear everybody at my table while the band was still playing. There were plenty of bathrooms. After the sun went down, they started a bonfire outside. There were lots of mosquitos out, though. We only sat out there a couple minutes because we were getting eaten up. I wouldn't expect them to spray the whole property, but I imagine there might be some sort of bug control solution that could work for event nights. Tiki torches? Citronella something? We had so much fun, and Waterloo really was beautiful. I'm sure that most events here play Waterloo by ABBA. It was a crowd pleaser. read more

This is a "town" lost to time. It is a piece of history that is in desperate need of acknowledgment and repair. But it is one that should be seen regardless. I have done here for years and it has always been a peaceful walk. I just happened to go up on canal day when a lot of the buildings are open and people are allowed to look around inside them. It is a great doorway to our country's past. I would suggest anyone to go at least once. read more

Wow what a nice, scenic walk through history! I visited this historic site a few weeks ago, during peak fall foliage, and the scenery was stunning. The site itself is free to enter and has a good number of historic buildings! Tons of parking is available as well. Most of the pathways and trails are unpaved but most of them are flat. There's also a picnic area and a section that is set up for events like weddings. The bathrooms are well-kept and clean which is always a nice bonus! read more

Lovely off-the-beaten path attraction. This semi-preserved 19th century village is full of charm and bucolic splendor. You can walk the whole thing in about an hour, and there are some optional woodland paths if you nave extra time. Bring your camera (aka phone). read more

We went to Waterloo Village because there was supposed to be a farmer's market that Sunday. I was visiting a friend and we thought it would also be nice to see the historic village. Well, the farmer's market was cancelled without notice because of a private event. We were wondering why they didn't make an effort to let people know this online. Seeing the village though was worth it in itself. The grounds are very beautiful with historic houses, greenery, and water. We went into a little museum and they had people, assuming volunteers, tell us about the history. We also went to the Indian village. That was very interesting, because we had 3 different people give us a tour describing different the lives of these early residents. I learned a lot about how they lived. read more

She has taken us through each to-do list item step by step, which really helps calm the one-month-to-go panic. In talking to the JAM and Waterloo staff, it is so apparent that they hold a deep love for the venue, enjoy meeting with couples, and strive to make their visions come to life. It's the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock, so I came here for the Let It All Hang Out 3 day Woodstock mini Festival. Carolyn Coletti Jablonski from the Band CC Coletti put on this 3 day event, along with her husband, and many staff members. They worked around the clock for almost a year getting some of the best tribute bands in the country to come and play. The music was a variety of Rock, Southern Rock, Soul, Dead Music, Blues you name it. There were around 300 vendors, including amount them was food trucks,along with 7 bands a day on many acres of beautiful land and open sky's. People came from all over NJ, NY, PA and parts of the south to attend this fun event. I was a volunteer, which gave me direct access to backstage VIP access of all the areas , and every part of this fun festival. The weather was absolutely perfect, and there was plenty of room to stretch out. Most people brought folding chairs and blankets to watch the bands. Security was everywhere,no one got in without a proper wristband. Parking was $10. There was lots of room to walk around and checkout different vendors who were selling everything from incense, to custom made hats, essential oil's and CBD oil, jewelry, clothing, tapestries, custom painted wall art, adult face painting and body jewelry etc. There was a Yoga tent up on the hill where anyone could go and workout or get instructions. In Field 1 and in the VIP area was a tent set up with with a massage chair or full massage bed from The company A Friend in Knead was set up. In the VIP area this was free. I got a 45 min massage and it was one of the best I've ever had. The outside massage tent did charge. The food trucks were amazing! My two favorites were Twisted Steaks from PA was really good. They served Cheesesteak pretzel which was a twisted artisan pretzel it came with sliced prime ribeye,slow cooked to perfection with caramelized onions, melted mozzerella and provolone cheese. My other favorite food truck was the Log Cabin from Stillwater ,PA.They made some of the best pulled pork I ever had, it was served on a soft bun. I ate from this truck everyday. The owner and staff were so friendly and amazing! I highly recommend this food truck. I also purchased hair accessories from different vendors. The reason I'm not giving 5 stars is a tree fell out on the road and it took forever for the power to go back on, so the bands couldn't perform no fault of their own. Also, Waterloo and the state made it very difficult for the event coordinator. Extremely stick place to hold a venue or concert. read more

Even though we went on a weekday when there were no tours or museums open it was still a very nice stroll with the baby.

One of the best venues my boyfriend and I have been too! The staff was incredible. Customer service is a huge deal for me and I can not stress enough as a guest the magnificent assistance from this staff. Very accommodating and friendly. They are there for you to have a good time which is what a venue should live by. Food was delicious, cozy venue, and loved all the stations they provided. Excellent! read more

It's a shame this place is closed during COVID, I remember coming here as a kid and loving it. Although the buildings/ tours are closed, it's still a great place to see and walk around. Pretty neat history with how old the buildings are. It also looked like there was a venue building that would be nice for a reception or party. read more

Waterloo Village is a historic site and historic village near Allamuchy State Park. We were there for an event, but the entire park was open, and all the museums and buildings were there for us to check out. It's really quite awesome! There is a lot to see and do, a lot of historic exhibits to check out, like a whole building dedicated to models of the canal, a working mill that's run by the water, and a lot of other fun things. There's also a recreation of a Lenape village, which was also really neat to see. There are lots of nicely graded walking paths there, and the views of the canal are very nice. I can see why there are a lot of weddings held here, it's very picturesque. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area! read more

Waterloo Village has a good amount for the family to do. There are old historic buildings that are open to tour certain days if the week. The canal is beautiful so make sure to take lots of photos. There's also a recreated Lenape village. This village definitely looks like it's seen better days and a lot of the mannequins were falling apart. read more

A historic canal town, saved from entropy by a series of unconnected events. By all accounts, this town should have been lost to memory years ago, when the Morris Canal ceased operations. Fortunately it was maintained by transients during the depression, and resurrected as a museum village by a nonprofit foundation. When the foundation failed, the Canal Society and NJDEP took over operations. Today, meager restoration efforts are in place. Thankfully many of the original structures are still viable, the Canal Society has their museum there, and the remains of the last canal boat are on display. read more

Waterloo Village is a partially restored 19th century canal town. Set along the old Morris canal, it's a peaceful, tranquil site with great historical interest. At one time carrying iron ore from Phillipsburg to Jersey city, the Morris Canal helped shape early American History. The locks and inclined plane which allowed boats to traverse the varied terrain can still be seen. There are numerous information boards that explain the site and the community which was built around it. A restored Lenape Village is feature with special programming. Beginning in May 2016, guided tours will be conducted on Saturdays by historic interpreters dressed in period clothing. The Gristmill, Smith's General Store, Rotan Log Cabin and farm site, as well as, the blacksmith demonstrations will be open. It's run by the State of New Jersey. Admission is adults ($5), seniors & 6-12 years ($3), and children under 5 are free. I visited in September 2015 on a Thursday. There was no admission charge. I strolled around on my own visiting the different houses and reading the information boards. I'll be going back once the guided tours are available in May. read more

You really have to go in person to appreciate how beautiful this venue is for a wedding. We were just assigned our wedding planner/ coordinator and so far everything has been great. Very attentive and quickly responds and provides great guidance. Food tasting is this weekend and looking forward to working with the catering company JAM. We got a little taste of their farm to table when I visited this venue back in May of 2019. Highly recommend a wedding at this venue and having JAM cater. More information to come soon! read more

I loved this place as a kid for field trips and other events. From that point of view - it's great to explore. You really get involved in history as it comes to life in reenactment. But the reason I'm leaving a review is because my father and step-mother recently this past weekend tied the knot at the waterloo methodist chapel. The day before, we went to rehearse the wedding- the pastor and Betty (I may have that wrong!) were so kind and patient in helping us set up and prepare for the wedding. They talked us through everything and ran through it 3 times to make sure we felt comfortable while keeping it fun and light-hearted. The day of the wedding they were so attentive and truly joined in with celebrating with our family. Waterloo overall is breathtaking. There is an endless amount of beautiful landscapes and structures for any type of picture you're looking for. From pictures on the creek to standing in front of historical buildings we enjoyed using the different places to turn the pictures into something special. What a great place to take a nice walk, breathe in fresh air, admire nature's beauty and snap some beautiful pictures along the way! There's also an indoor pavilion and reception hall for weddings and other events! There was a wedding happening as we dropped by and everything was absolutely gorgeous!! We've had big events here two years in a row and on both occasions, it was a good time. There are lots of interesting historical buildings and structures, and a number of well-maintained trails to walk on. Plus, the riverside is scenic. The only downside was parking. We filled up the lot very quickly and with parking in the overflow field, figuring out the correct exit from there was a bit tricky. read more

Attended a wedding here recently. Grounds are beautiful. Ceremony, cocktail hour and reception were all in different barn-like buildings. Not sure what the plan is of weather is not good considering you have to walk to each building and some of the paths are not paved. Cocktail hour was very good. We were sure not to overeat bc at many weddings we do and we're too full for dinner. Overeat at cocktail hour bc meal at reception is an appetizer and a small entree. Small medallion like piece of tenderloin (if you choose beef) and very scant side. Service at reception was slow. We had carafes of water but no water glasses. They started distributing the, after everyone was seated and it a little while. We went to the bar for a drink and was told we could not have a drink from the bar yet we had to wait for something, not sure if it was the bride and groom to be announced, to dance. I don't know lot of rules. I had to seek ata server every time our carafe was empty no one ever came over or even asked us if we needed anything. Towards the end of the night, I'd say about 10:00 (I believe need @11:30) we tried to order Jameson on the rocks (which was ordered earlier) and was told they were no longer allowed to serve on the rocks drinks without a mixer. We were forced to get a splash of soda...ok. About 15 or so minutes later we tried to order a mixed vodka drink and were told they were no longer serving liquor only beer and wine. I have never heard of such a thing and I've been to many weddings and in many states in my 54 years! Now the drinks and juices glasses at the cocktail,hour make sense. It's about control, money/cost and controlling how much people drink bc the venue isn't sure if it's patrons can do it well enough on their own. So if you choose to have a function here beware. I'd like to think they would notify you of this... just make sure this is reflected in your price. Turned what could've be an exceptional affair into an ok one and not just bc the alcohol was cutoff. It was the other things I mentioned and the principle behind it. I felt like the government was running the affair. read more

If you're an outdoor and history lover, Waterloo Village is the place to go. Very scenic trails and lots of photo ops. Its also the site of wedding receptions, and other formal events. I got there too late and the general store was closed but very cool seeing the old canal. Makes for a good stop after hiking the surround Allamuchy state park trails. read more
