I just love this church community. I found Parkwood after a long search and though the median…read morechurch age is probably 70's, I've found thoughtful, caring, and kindred spirits in this place. Because it's a smaller congregation it's easy to get to know everyone. One of my favorite things is the amazing female pastor, Sarah. I didn't realize how healing this environment was by simply having a female pastor... it acts as a natural pesticide to weed out all the toxic masculinity! I love that the sermons focus on the Love of Christ, and how we are challenged to love ourselves, our neighbors, and our enemies. I also love that the church acts as a community. They donate their lawn to AYSO soccer every Saturday, and in return don't need to worry about lawn maintenance during those months. They really try to serve the community with what they have and practice loving others. This Saturday from 9-1pm is a vintage jewelry sale. Several members have collected donations, cleaned, repaired and plan to sell and have all proceeds donated to The Kid's Food Basket. They even found an amazing Penca pendant that they chose to donate to the African American Museum as an important historical item. Come by to check out the sale this Saturday, or stop in 10am on Sunday for a service. There is always coffee and some snacks following the service to encourage conversation. I'm happy to have finally found my niche.

It was a good strong message, very relevant for our times and easy for everyone to understand. They also have a pretty good staff that caters to an impressive youth/children's group, with all sorts of activities and opportunities for fellowship. They have a contemporary service at 9:30 and a traditional service at 11:05. We went to the earlier service, which had a really welcoming and laid back feeling. The music was provided by the youth worship team on this Sunday and they were really good. People were dressed comfortably and casual, from jeans and t-shirts to slacks with shirts and ties and it had a really nice family feel to it. And even though they have programs for kids of every age, you still saw a lot of kids in the regular service. The church also provides these cute little canvas bags at the entrance into the sanctuary for kids to use during the service if they need to keep busy. I think it had crayons and paper to color and draw on. I thought that was a really good idea for those kids under 6 or 7. I like that they even have podcasts that you can look up on their website to listen to past sermons up to 18 months. So check out their website which has a lot of information to offer, and stop by for a good message for your soul.

The church has a contemporary worship service at 9:30 with guitars, etc. More of a "rock" feeling…read moreto the music, with current contemporary Christian standards that you might hear on the radio. Then a traditional service at 11:05 with organ and choir. Both services are well-attended, with strong messages. There is a social time after each service, with coffee and cookies. Church members are very active in the community. Involvement in Love Inc., Rescue Mission, etc. Something here for everyone, including strong gospel messages.
