Braemar Cabins - One of two bedrooms

Braemar Cabins

I think this was one of the most comfortable non-hotel experience I've ever had. Not exactly a…read morecottage and far from a camping experience, the cabins here are built for a short or a long term stay in the heart of Port Elgin. Its steps away from the main beach (about 15 min walk) and a short drive from the town. Its relaxing here. Not sure what to expect, when we got here its in the middle of a residential area. Basically a big house (the owners) and small cabins surrounding the rest of the lot (4). I thought it was weird, but noticed some other neighhbours had this setup as well. Turns out the whole area was cabins and small cottages, with a lot more trees, but recently had been torn down to make way for large homes. The cabin was small but really cozy. You don't need more than this. 2 bedrooms, kitchenette with sink, microwave, hot stove, big fridge, coffee maker (but bring your own coffee and filters) and lots of dishes and utensils. There a flush toilet (key!), sofa, small eat-in area, your own bbq and 2 muskoka chairs on the porch. In the morning, we ate brekkie and watched the owners 2 kids play around in the sandbox and swings. In the evening, we made our bbq and ate it outside while I held a fly swatter at intruders. In the evening, the owners started a bonfire and we shared beers and good conversation. The bedrooms are comfy with ample blankets provided, also a heater for colder nights. There's also two showers (bonus!) On the right side of the main house. Most importantly the cabin and facilities was CLEAN. As princessy as I am, the place exceeded my expectations for these kinds of things. And rightly so, the owner Krissy prides herself in this and maintains each cabin as If it were her own. If she wouldn't stay there, neither will you. At $90 a night, it was easy to book at their email braemarcabins@gmail.com

Absolute trash. Do not waste your time or money coming to this sh*thole. cottage one we stayed in…read morebecause it was supposed to be a secluded and that was a big fat lie by the owners as well. They actually have a small cottage literally right beside cottage one. This is absolute bullsh*t as I wanted some peace and quiet and now these clowns are literally 5 steps away from our COttage. Don't waste your money coming to this pathetic piece of sh*t place just to have some f*cking owner 5 feet away from you at all times. Fishing is garbage too. Site garbage. Overall the worst cottage experience I've had in 30+ years

The place is fantastic and each cottage comes fully equipped with everything you expect and more - bed sheets, all cooking equipment, spices, abundant amounts of plates cups and utensils. The owners are extremely friendly, and also keep chickens and sell freshly-laid eggs (I didn't get a chance to try though). Also on the premises is a games room equipped with a ping pong table, a pay-per-use pool table, foosball table, shuffleboard table and a pay-per-use washer/dryer. The cottages and chalets (we've stayed in both before) all come with electric heating, as well as a wood stove to keep yourselves warm. The water is clean and drinkable. The washrooms are updated and modern. The larger cottages and chalets come with a pull-out couch that will fit an extra couple people. BBQ and associated tools are of course included. On the Summer trip, we went canoeing on Lake Eugenia (the resort has a beachfront on this lake, and they rake their shoreline of all the debris that occasionally washes up). Past the road bridge, lake Eugenia is very vast and beautiful. There are also paddleboats to use, and both of these are included. Kayaks are rentable at an additional cost. All the buildings have easy access, but the chalets are the ones that sit closest to the waterfront. On our Winter trip, we used the cottage resort as a base and went to the nearby Blue Mountain ski resort (about 1/2 hour), coming back to cook delicious meals. Some key things you may consider packing: -aluminum foil, plastic wrap, soap, shampoo, bath towels, large roasting pans if you bake meat in the oven
