I saw my oral surgeon this morning, before seeing Dr. Max, and the surgeon told me that Dr. Max contacted him asking for his 2nd opinion on a questionable area around the tooth he was treating (not his root canal), and Dr. Max told me that he also discussed that area with my general dentist. Now that's a true CARE, isn't it? But perhaps I shouldn't marvel why Dr. Max is so exceptionally caring and instead marvel why not all dentists and doctors are this way, since doctors are supposed to care for and about their patients and put their interests first. They have a mini fridge available with waters in the waiting room and a coffee station. Once called back, the appointment felt rushed. I had imaging done and then had a 2-3 minute interaction with Dr. Max. There was no discussion of options, risks, etc. I was prescribed an antibiotic and told to schedule the next two appointments for root canal retreatment. I was a bit disoriented. I did as asked but eventually cancelled those two follow up appointments and scheduled with a different practice with more time for patient care and education.

I sought a second opinion at Renovo, and when they reviewed Dr Distel's recent imagery, the doctor spotted a root that was not cleared out and filled during the root canal Dr Distel performed. (So he missed it twice - once 10 years ago, and again when I came in with pain). This mistake led to a serious infection causing bone loss in my jaw and countless rounds of antibiotics, time off work, and pain. I went in for retreatment at Renovo to have the missed canal cleared out, only to discover the entire tooth was now compromised and was told I needed an oral surgeon for extraction. In total, I paid for 2 root canals, a surgical extraction, and anesthesia costs not covered by insurance before it was all said and done. Oh, and I lost the tooth. They have incredible equipment that takes very detailed images that show much more than what my dentist could see on an x ray. After examining the scans and images and doing some diagnostic tests, Dr. Eslinger told me that there's a good chance that my tooth is beyond needing a root canal. He gave me the option to continue or have it extracted elsewhere. Talk about honesty and integrity!! I think most dentists would have just done it and taken my money with no regard for the final outcome. Additionally, the staff was so kind and friendly. My experience at this endodontist office was disappointing…read more First, I found Dr. Barseghyan's bedside manner to be quite unfriendly, which made the visit uncomfortable from the start. Second, I was required to prepay for a 'pulp vitality' test because I was told that insurance might not cover it. The insurance ultimately denied the claim, stating that according to accepted dental clinical standards, this service should not be performed on the same day as a root canal. This was frustrating, as I relied on the office's professional judgment when agreeing to the procedure. Lastly, during my treatment, there was a significant amount of casual conversation and joking among staff. This made me feel overlooked and uneasy during what was already a stressful procedure. I hope the office considers improving patient communication, treatment planning transparency, and overall patient experience.
