DEER PARK DENTAL - "DENTAL HYGENISTS FROM HELL"
About two years ago I scheduled a cleaning with the head dental Hygienist, and since she was off that day, I was scheduled with Jenna. As I arrived for a routine cleaning, I politely told my dental hygienist that I do not like x-rays and am trying to "minimize my exposure to radiation". I stated that I wanted the minimum number of x-rays possible. I say this in any medical setting where x-rays are involved. I requested the head hygienist (Karen), but since she was unavailable, I was sent to Jenna for cleaning. During the evaluation with the piezo, Jenna started digging the instrument deep into the gum and, like she was trying to see how far it would go down during the measurement process, during one deep probe she stated "See, you do not know what could be wrong under the gums without x-rays" and continued to push to the point of discomfort. This is before the cleaning began. Someone came in and asked me to sign an x-ray refusal form, which I did, I stated that I wanted to have a copy, Jenna stood up and walked out then she came back in, obviously frustrated about me not getting the x-rays. I asked to speak with Dr Privatsky, which I was allowed to. I stated that I wanted to stop the cleaning with Jenna, she was the only one available for me to see that day. I did not feel comfortable letting her continue doing anything in my mouth. She has since left the practice, and I fully understand why.
Fast forward to 2022. I needed my teeth cleaned, and I have had one good experience with Karen (who quit), so I decided to schedule a visit anyways. The receptionist left me a message, texted and called me two times before the visit to inform me that I could see Rosanne, and that Karen is not available. I did not ever see her ever before, but I wanted to ensure it was not the same hygienist who I had the last time, so I called to confirm it was not Jenna. I scheduled and the receptionist assured me - stating she had been there for "awhile" meaning a few years. I got to the appointment on time, was brought to the chair in back and fitted with a bib and sunglasses. Rosanne entered the room and immediately stated that I need 18 x-rays before I get my teeth cleaned, it is required for a cleaning today, In other words, if I did not get the X-ray, I would not get my teeth cleaned - a clear ultimatum. I could tell by her tone and that fact that the receptionist called me two times, that she read something from former employee (now gone) Jenna, who is no longer at the practice about me not liking x-rays! I stated I wanted to speak with Dr. P, to see if half or at least fewer or half x-rays could be done. She stated
"Typically, the dentist will see you after the cleaning" in other words, she did not want me to speak with him.
I allowed the 18 X-rays to be taken and during the X-rays, Rosanne took the X-ray device out of my mouth, while simultaneously looking asway from my face (intentionally It seemed), so that the instrument contacted my teeth on the way out. I did the total of 18 x-rays. I did not complain about this unprofessional and potentially damaging method of removing the x-ray equipment, I just wanted them to be over with. Rosanna stated the cleaning using the Cavitron (an ultrasonic cleaning device, with a water pic) which I was totally fine with, and it seemed like it might be a normal cleaning --- Until Rosanne abruptly stopped cleaning and said, I need more water for the cavitron. She removed the water reservoir from under the counter and walked to fill is, oddly enough, there was half a tank of water in the reservoir! What seemed like 10 minutes, later, she came back reattached it and tried to proceed with the cleaning. Now, the cavitron was no longer working! She requested help from Nicole and they both tried to fix the Cavitron, but were unable to, I sat patiently with bib and sunglasses on waiting for my teeth to be cleaned. I even suggested how to fix it. I did not want a manual scaling, which they suggested and the Cavitron was broken. 3 dental hygienists came into the room and asked me to reschedule. The chair right next to me was open and the cavitron was working so I suggested moving me over to the next chair to complete my cleaning. That is when Tammy started getting angry and got close to me (as I was sitting calmly in my dental chair) raised her voice at me stating "I heard that had a problem with you in the past", I could detect rage in her voice. I said why don't you give me your name, I wanted to talk with the office manager at the front who I spoke with at the start of my visit. Then she was really angered, and Tammy stated loudly "I'll give you my Name, my Number, and my Husband's phone number and 2 sons Numbers!" I asked, "Is that a threat?", The other hygienists could hear, and I know there was at least one more patient in the office getting their teeth cleaned who heard the entire conversation.
