The other day I purchased a $25 Christmas ornament and asked for gift wrap. Instead of the usual box and beautiful wrapping, I was "told" that it didn't qualify for the normal gift wrapping "downstairs." I received a cheap ugly cellophane bag instead. There was no one in line for gift wrapping at the time. I was very disappointed in the older woman's attitude considering that we have recently purchased Herend and numerous Juliska gifts from them. In the past their personal customer service set them apart from the others, but obviously it no longer matters, so we will go elsewhere.

I have purchased several fabulous treats for myself, including a perfectly stunning dining room table. I am especially fond of the art work they have, as much of it is very tasteful and surprisingly affordable. Last time I went in, I almost picked up a small landscape done in oils that was in a lovely gold frame. It was marked at $75 and now I don't know why I didn't get it. Regrets hit me hard when I make a pass on something like that. Their jewelry case is filled with show stopping rings. Guess when the divorce bell clangs, the Mrs. brings in her heirlooms for some quick cash. How nice for her- and for jewelry lovers. While some things are pricey (and not quite my taste) there are lots of bargains in here, from pillows to art to sweet little porcelain boxes for dressing up your living room. They have two large rooms just oozing with luxury goods. With another consignment shop just around the corner, New Canaan should be a decorator's prime destination when they want to furnish a room with a touch of chic sophistication.

When I went back I was told by the very arrogant clerk who might have been the owner pretending to be a sales clerk that I could only get a store credit, not a credit back to my credit card. I explained it was their mistake, not mine and I should get a credit card credit, not a store credit. They were adamant that this was their policy. I am now wondering whether this was an honest mistake or a nefarious way to boost sales. I will be reporting this very unfair policy to Visa and the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce and can not recommend this store.
