I recently moved back to Boulder, and couldn't find a good place to get my eyebrows threaded as I usually do, so I started doing my brows myself...and ended up with a bit of a mess. One was slightly uneven, and thinner than the other, it was just no bueno. Looked like I took a weed whacker to my face. I decided to give Waxing the City a try. I waked in and they said they had no availability, no big deal, I made an appointment and went back the next day. The salon is lovely, very inviting and modern. All of the employees that I have encountered thus far have been friendly. I'm a single mom to a one year old that I have to take with me, and they have all been very patient with her, which I love...I'm not going to pay a sitter so that I can go get an already pricy ten minute wax. All of the ladies I have seen have done a great job. They did call me one hour before my appointment to cancel due to an employee not showing up for work, but I'm flexible. Can't control that. Unfortunately last time I showed up I was informed that my usual cerologist no longer works there, which sucks, but again, I'm flexible. The part that really gets me is the pricing. 21 dollars plus tip (always tip people who perform a service well 20%!!) is pretty pricy. I pay this every three weeks, and I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking about going somewhere cheaper. Sure, I won't get the ambiance or even the same level of skill and professionalism, but at least my wallet will be in one piece! The only thing keeping me from doing this is how much better my brows look now, and I don't want to risk that! So all in all, I would definitely recommend giving Waxing the City a try, because they do do a great job. Just know that it's going to be expensive. I don't know if seeing three cerologists in as many months is the usual or just a one off, but also something to keep in mind. read more

This was my favorite waxing place. Natalie Allen was awesome. the best wader I have ever seen. They let her go because she didn't match their petty "culture". After reviewing all the salons in Boulder, Wax In The City seemed like a good choice. Scheduling was simple and the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. I got a Level 1 modified Brazilian and Lower Leg wax from Noreen. She was very nice and I felt comfortable. My Brazilian was the worst I've ever gotten. I thought I was being critical, so I went home and asked my bfriend his opinion (without telling him mine). He said there was still lots of hair. I felt so embarrassed calling to ask if I could come back for a "clean up". When I returned, Noreen totally agreed that she has missed quite a bit. Not a comfortable situation!! As for my Lower Leg waxing, well now I have a scar/discoloration down my left shin. I don't know if the waxing tore off my skin or what, but it's been over a month and the scar/discoloration is still there. I didn't call them about the leg. I don't want to go back there. The leg waxing was on par with the Brazilian in that lots of hair was missed. The salon wasn't busy, so I don't think she was rushed. This was hands down THEE BEST Brazilian I have gotten EVER. We all know how trying these times are. I hadn't made it in for a wax anywhere for way too long. I am based in Los Angeles, and I have been to all of the fancy wax salons (and not so fancy ones too) but this was different. I made a same day appointment (which is nearly impossible to get anywhere) and the customer service on the phone was bright and uplifting. As a newbie to waxing, I was apprehensive about my first time. I chose Waxing the City based on reviews, and selected Kelly to do the work based on some very positive comments I saw on Yelp. I was 100% happy with my choices. The online appointment sign up was easy, and check-in once I arrived was easy and welcoming. Kelly couldn't have been nicer. She carefully explained every step of the process, and made me feel completely at ease throughout. I will absolutely return, and hope to book with Kelly when I do so! When booking, I noticed that they offered a 50% discount coupon for first-time clients. By the time I checked out after my appointment, I'd forgotten to mention the discount. Front desk staff has always been nice and helpful. I've been here twice so far and my first waxing (I believe it was McKenzie) was good, no complaints. She was efficient, sweet, and meticulous. Today's waxing experience, not so much. We started 10 mins late, whatever it's fine. Waxing went ok, not too much pain. When she was done and walked out of the room I noticed she left long hairs (on both sides) less than an inch away from my bikini line. I'm getting waxed for a reason, so I don't have hair when I wear bikini or shorts in a hot yoga class. She explained its part of the leg and it took her about 20 seconds to remove the 6-7 hairs on each side. Ok. Charge me whatever you think that was worth. She charged extra $10. To be honest, I think it's kind of lame. I've been waxing for at least 10 years and never had anyone not wax that part of my bikini line, it's never been an issue or a question. I have to be fair and point out that I came in because I received a 20 % off over email. Thank you for that, however, adding the $10 for additional 10 hairs made it pointless. I had my eyebrows done here by "cerologist" Tawnie a few days ago. She did a fantastic job. I have had my eyebrows waxed a million times - usually at European Wax Center (EWC). .. No idea why I waited so long (and even hesitated) to try Waxing the City. At EWC, I'd be in-and-out in three minutes, with less than stellar results. They really struggled with men's eyebrows, and left me with "girl" eyebrows more than once - even despite discussing it with the esthetician ahead of time. In contrast, Waxing the City allots their "cerologists" up to 30-minutes to do your treatment. Tawnie pre-treated, waxed, re-waxed and plucked my eyebrows to perfection. I also thought it was pretty cool that they give their estheticians magnifying lamps - they obviously go for very precise hair removal, something that EWC never did. read more

I'm pretty disappointed. I booked a full arm wax and then had car trouble on the day of- called in advance to say I'd be 10 min late, they said ok. I get there and the technician was only able to do half my arms (and was checking her watch and shaking her head the whole time, which made for a VERY stressful and anxiety filled experience). Was charged 40 for half arm when the full arm is 45. Ok, i got that... but when I asked if I could come back for them to finish it, they said it would be an additional 40. I would have appreciated them telling me that they would not charge me for a no-show and just rescheduling me. My arms do not look good and the whole experience was pretty stressful. Will have to figure out how to finish the arms by myself, as I cannot afford the additional 40 when I was planning on $45 total. Extremely disappointed and really upset. Update: DONT use the dry oil that they may sell you right afterwards. Got infected hair follicles and now have little red bumps and pimples that are very irritated all over my arms...and I'm flying to Hawaii in two days . Stick to things like aloe Vera, coconut oil and tea tree. Oy... Original post: The staff was very professional, polite and helpful. Kelly was awesome. I've never seen anyone else there as this was my first time but she was so nice, explained everything as she went and was so funny that even though my "marathon" as she called it was two hours of semi painful hair pulling, I was laughing nearly the entire time and it helped so much. She was quick, thorough, skilled and super sweet. I had my full arms, full legs and a bikini line (hence marathon) but I made it through it. I have sensitive skin but even by the time I left it had returned to its normal color and texture. She coached me on aftercare and made me feel completely confident about everything. Hmmm... So I have been debating for about a month whether to write this review or not, but every time I look down and find another ingrown hair on my horrible bikini wax I think about my bad experience. I regret to say this is my first review on waxing the city. I have been going here for over a year and have had great experiences, but sadly it is the terrible experience that has motivated me to write... Whenever I go to waxing the city I am between 5 and 10 minutes early for my appointment and I am always taken back to the room 5 to 10 minutes late. Occasionally I will get a hurried apology, but either way I have never been bothered because I always get a great wax and they usually finish 10 to 15 minutes ahead of schedule. Well this ONE time I was 3 minutes late...god forbid. My appointment time was from 1015 to 1100. I arrived at 1018, apologized and said I needed to use the restroom. I was taken back to the room at 1022 and was hurriedly told that my waxing would not be of usual quality since we were getting started 15 minutes late. I decided to not argue about the 8 minute discrepancy and agreed to a less than desirable waxing. My esthetician began blazing through the waxing in a way that felt like she was punishing me for being late. I asked her how much time she had in-between clients and she proceeded to tell me she booked her clients back to back and that it usually worked out because she always finished appointments a little early and so had built in breaks. She proceed to wax at an alarming rate and I was off the table at 10:42. Excuse me??! I thought my Brazilian bikini wax was scheduled until 1100!!! Why would you tell me that I'm going to get a crappy wax because I'm late and then finish my appointment 18 minutes early!? Not to mention that if we had actually started 15 minutes late like she had suggested I would have had a 12 minute wax. 20 minutes was bad enough, I would had to know what 11 feels like! I was in such shock that I failed to say anything while I was there... When I went to pay, my bill was $48. I tried to pay with a $100 but they didn't have change!!!!!!! Wow. What kind of business doesn't have $52 change? I will give you another shot waxing the city... But I will not be seeing this particular esthetician again. Oh, and I'll make sure I'm my usual 5-10 minutes early so I don't get punished:( read more
