This year I returned to Kopf's Way Dam Resort for the first time since the Apollo moon landing.
The Michigamee Resevoir is where I learned to fish. Back then my family camped in tents and we paddled over to Kopf's for bait ... and watching the moon landing.
I stayed in a cabin that was modest in every way. Still, Pam made sure it was ready. Team Kopf's deserves kudos.
So fifty years since the last time I was here the fishing is different in that the perch were almost completely replaced by rock bass. The walleyes barely made it over 14", yet the smallies were abundant. The camp site I stayed at from way back then was populated by great big RV campers. While I walked in towards the beach, I was attacked by dogs. I was bitten, and though the wound healed in 3 weeks, I was grateful I didn't get rabies.
Every fishing boat I saw was equipped with sonar/electronics/electric trolling motors that made each fisherman an underwater/anti-submarine professional. Hence, the changes in fishing.
