I was warned by my primary care that Dr. Wayne Anderson is a"bit eccentric and a nurd" and I was okay with that. I read all the reviews and had great expectations when I saw him. Unfortunately I saw him at my worst severe sciatic and back pain flare-up that I have ever had. The pain is so bad I suffered not only insomnia, but major sleep deprivation, serious symptoms for which I had to be treated at the Emergency Room near where I live and that was one of the first things I told him. With that background about me, and the recommendation with the warning about his personality I had great expectations when I saw him last month. I am okay with eccentricity, but was totally unprepared for his lack of sensitivity and compassion. I had even mentioned that my Italian Greyhound, same family as his 2 whippets who were in the office that day (and were the only redeeming part of my encounter with Dr. Anderson), anyway I mentioned that my beautiful Italian Greyhound who was my licensed service dog passed away 8 months ago. Dr. Anderson made absolutely no response to my telling him that. I had a photo of my dog in my iphone ready to show him, He showed no interest in me. He just went on and on giving me a "medical school" lecture on pain and the 5 ways to attack it, etc, etc. I was in such physical and sleep deprived that I could not follow him, could not even concentrate on the lecture, complete with diagrams! I don't even think that he picked on the fact that I was in agony lying on bed, and terribly distressed. He didn't seem to notice that I was even looking at him I desperate and wanted solutions, not a medical degree. He never picked up on the fact that I wasn't able to follow him because of my terrible pain. He is not only one of the most megalomaniac and self- center medical providers I have ever encountered, except with a surgeon, and some how that works out because you are unconscious during the process, and that ego goes with the nerve to even cut someone's spine, harvest bone, place major hardware in, etc. I never had a problem with that Dr. and his gigantic ego. Anderson was worse than that, he was a prig. And I agree with Jesse's experience. It appears that he did not come up through Pain Management study the usual way. He is not an MD, his diplomas of being a neurologist and pain specialist appear as if he did some quick study to get them. After all that he did not make a single recommendation and told me when I came back he would have some. Unfortunately the next appt. was 3 weeks away. And communicating with them was a night mare. I am used to doctors who have nurses, and 4-5 medical assistants and things get done. It was very frustrating trying to communicate with this office. Poor Peter is so overworked that he can't even answer the phone. Why doesn't Anderson have a proper staff so that patients can communicate directly and immediately. Everything was such a long delay I didn't feel I could take it. And when I made an on-line request for a medication he suggested that might help my sleep problem, he misunderstood that I was asking for a prescription. He thought I was asking for samples, so apparently he doesn't even read patient messages properly. He belongs by himself in laboratory doing research. He has no people skills and his whole office is set up that way. After 2 weeks of desperate attempts to get help, I gave up. I would never recommend Dr. Anderson unless you have mild pain and a simple problem. My case was too complex for him. Fortunately one of my doctors referred me to an excellent Pain Specialist with an MD who came up the usual way with an anesthesiology degree and the a degree in Pain Management at Cleveland Clinic, the "Flagship of Pain Management." And he got me in right way, studied all my MRIs, Bone Scan studies, and made several recommendations. I had to go to the ER Sat. night and this doctor called that he wanted to see me first thing Monday. I would be happy to give out his name to anyone else who has been frustrated and disappointed with this Dr. Anderson, who really doesn't have all the proper training to practice Pain Management. I suppose if you like heavy drugs, he might be a good match for you, that is if you can jump all the loops in his office to even get an appt.
Sorry Dr. Anderson, but you are one of the most insensitive, uncompassionate, prig and SOB I have ever met and I have had 5 back surgeries and seen a whole lot of doctors over the last 16 years. As for the display of his Mensa diploma, that is another example of his egomania. Something like that patients don't need. As I said he would be best not working with patients and researching his ideas and writing his book. He is brilliant, but nothing he said or did for me was helpful. A total waste. I would not recommended him and I have been to some of the best. read more
