Pet Lover's BEWARE! DO NOT leave your pets at this facility. I left my pet there for 6 1/2 days (July 3, 2010 - July 10, 2010); he was pratically starved to death. They did not follow the specific directions given for feeding my deaf puppy (2 cups of dry food mixed with 1/2 can of wet food twice a day) and then treid to say I didn't supply enough food. I left enough food for 8 days; they NEVER fed him his dry food, only the wet food, 1 can a day (which was about 3/4 cup of food). He also was covered in dried urine the day I picked him up to take him home and they lost his bedding cover. I asked them if he was eating and they said he was and then I asked if they were mixing his dry food with the wet and she hesitated before she said yes. This hesitation was a dead give away they were not giving him his dry food. Also, the container I left with the dry food was still full with the same amount of food I left on the day I dropped him off. The owner showed no concern, nor did she care, after I contacted her regarding the letter I sent stating my concerns. All she said was I was trying to get out of paying. This is FAR from the truth. I am seeking legal action and have reported them to the VA BBB, VA Animal Control Association, and Massanutten Resorts (since they refer people there). I will never leave my pet here again! Worst experience of my life! read more

We left our Shellie at this "resort" May 16 - 22. The owner claims that you can visit your pet from 11 am - 2 pm but she wasn't ever there when we wanted to visit. We had to wait for her to return from the store two days in a row. When we were to pick up our dog, we again had to wait for her because she doesn't open until 10 am and not only wouldn't she open a few minutes early so we could be on our way back to Maryland, we had to ask her to unlock her gate so we could get on her property. So unaccommodating...we won't be back. read more

I have been entrusted with , well cant give numbers, but a very lot of family pets over the years and am very conciencious about safety, water cleanliness and feeding schedules, and medication. Not sure where this poster boarded pets before but water is a neccessity, and cleaning and accidents are part of our daily routine. You are more than welcome to call and we can give you as many references as you need and also look on merchant circle reviews. Thank you for your time Vicki Shambley Wayworn Pet Resort

I think that I must start with some history about me so that pet owners can appreciate how much I have to lend regarding character in the animal world. I have been a licensed veterinary technician for over 30 years. I have spent 26 of them working at a practice just outside of Pittsburgh, a practice that prides itself in quality care and client education. I have seen many examples of caregiving, so it is with this facet of my background that I feel I am an outstanding judge of animal care character. Personally, I have a dog that I obtained from my clinic that had been attacked as a pup by his mother. He is a good dog, but very untrustworthy to strangers. So being able to take, and enjoy a vacation, I must spend a good deal of time finding a safe environment for him, as well as the kennel. I had previously been boarding my dogs at a kennel in Pittsburgh, but knew that this wouldn't be a good match for this dog. Then, the thought occurred to me, that I should find somewhere in Massanutten, somewhere that I could keep an eye on them, and still have a vacation. I had remembered the quaint looking kennel that I had seen only a minute away from the resort (a good perk in itself!), and there, the history begins. I have kenneled my dogs here at Massanutten for many years now, and I have grown quite close to its' owner, Vicki Shambley. I am to the point that I am often behind the scenes, and I have witnessed the caring that goes into these animals once that are left in her care. All of the animals get individualized attention. She spends time with even the most aggressive animals, safely trying to gain their trust. The fearful are always the most difficult, and I've seen her crouching down and gently talking to those animals, just to try to make their stay less fearful. The workers she employs are always friendly and helpful. She is always available to check on the animals due to the fact that her house is right next door, and spends many late nights bedding them down for the night, so the animals are seldom left alone. It doesn't offer all of the fancy human amenities; it is my opinion that all of those bells and whistles in fancy kennels don't take the place of good care. At Wayworn Pet Resort, you get care you just can't compare those things to. Vicki makes it possible for me to enjoy my vacation knowing that my animals are well cared for. I would recommend this kennel to anyone seeking good, quality care for their animals as I trust her for the care of mine. read more

We have boarded our Shelties for years at Wayworn when we come down to MAssanutten. They have always been well cared for; we bring moist and dry food, and pain meds for one of my dogs - and everything has been given properly. Vicky is careful about letting dogs in and out in safety; when some of the food ran low (my fault; I inadvertently brought the wrong size scoop!) she let me know in time for us to pick up more food. We have never, ever encountered any of the problems mentioned by a couple of posters. EVER. Yes, the dogs are glad to see us. Yes, they do drink more when they are with us than when they are in the kennel - that is true no matter where we board. But they have always come back clean and healthy, and they have always been glad to see Vicky and Kim. Lyta - the old one who needs pain meds for arthritis - always leads the way back to the proper kennel runs after we've taken them out for the day (when we're at Massanutten)! We do bring a soft crate (with pad) and another thick pad for each kennel run (we put 2 dogs in each run). Shelties DO like their comfort, you know. read more

My wife and I have been bringing 2 to 3 dogs to Wayworn twice per year for the last 8 years. We ,on numerous occassions, have come by the pet resort unannounced to take our dogs for walks. Several times they are out in the recreational area playing around. Each day every dog is given play time in a large fenced-in yard. It was nice to see the employees adhereing to giving each dog recreational time outside the kennel. We've been there in both February and July and have never considered the enviromental conditions to be a concern or threat. On one occassion, Vicky immediately informed me that ,Sam, our american fox hound was sick. Right before we left for vacation, Sam got into a bunch of carrot peelings at home. We provide feeding directions and our dogs never seem starved or thirsty. Their kennels are cleaned daily. We completely trust Vicky and have seen her compassion on all animals. This is not a job to her but a passion. Thank you Wayworn for caring. Rick and Diane read more

My husband and I have been bringing our dog here for the last three years, and will continue to bring him here. We come to visit him about mid week during our 7 day vacation. And it shows that he is well taken care of. Our dog is picky when it comes to new people, but he lives Vicki, she is just excellent with him. I am the type of person, my dog is just like a child, you wouldn't just leave your child with anyone you don't trust right? Same goes for my sweet lovely dog, I can drop him off knowing he will be taken care of the way I take care of him, and this way I can enjoy my vacation. From making the reservations to picking him up, she has him ready to go at the time we give her that we will be there. I can't thank her enough for how she treats my Max. She truly is one of the best pet boarding places we have been to. And when talking to family/friends/coworkers we let them know about this place read more

This was my first time using Wayworn Pet Resort and it was the best boarding experience I could have hoped for. Vickie is really nice and extremely attentive. I visited my dog after the first day and I could see she was distressed when I left. I texted Vickie and she responded back with updates and even pictures! Putting my heart at ease knowing that my pup was in good hands and I could get updates when needed! Vickie was extremely flexible with visiting hours and letting me take my pup out for a couple hours and then bringing her back. I recommend this place to anyone who needs to board their furry family member in the Viriginia Area! 5 stars all the way! read more

Our dog Charlie is a regular guest at Wayworn Pet Resort and we have been very pleased with the love and care he receives while he's there. There is plenty of outdoor space for Charlie to get some exercise. The owner truly cares about Charlie and he loves her right back. In fact, when we drop him off he gets very excited when he sees her. Its nice to know that Charlie is well taken care of and loved when I have to travel without him. I have recommended Wayworn to several friends and they have been pleased as well. Wayworn is Charlie's "home away from home". read more

We boarded our little girl, Shy, with Wayworn Pet Resort for the first time in February, 2016. We were VERY pleased with the care they provided for Shy and made our daily visits/walks easy to arrange. Shy is 14 and requires a little extra attention and the staff was caring attended to her every need. Most of our contact was with the gentleman that services the kennels and he provided an extra measure of effort to insure everything went smoothly. We plan to utilize Wayworn Pet Resort again this winter. George & Pam read more

I have been coming here for years and my baby loves his pet resort and we would recommend them to anyone. Excellent care, great bath service and wonderful price. Baby received excellent treatment and loved his free time in the yard. We are from Maryland and this is only place our family boards when visiting Massanutten. (Our other family members uses this service for their pet as well). read more

Our dogs have been boarded at Wayworn annually for the last 5 years. There has never been a problem with setting up reservations, boarding the dogs, and having them ready for us at the designated time for pick up. We normally pick them up daily for a 30 minute walk around the grounds. We have always found the dogs well treated and appropriately fed. read more

We had a wonderful experience with Vicki and Wayworn when we needed a place for our miniature schnauzer while staying a week at Massanutten. It was perfect to be able to drop him off just over a mile from the mountain. Convenient and also well kept, professional place. I'm about to get on Vicki's schedule for this Fall, September. Highly recommend. read more

We boarded our dogs with Wayworn for the first time and could not be happier! The dogs were treated extremely well, the facility was clean and the proprietor, VIcky, was incredibly accommodating. The reservations went smoothly, check in was a breeze. Already planning to bring the dogs back to Wayworn Pet Resort on our next trip south. read more
