All that In Memoriam offered was right for our situation because our dog was our first family dog and the first dog that we had to help cross over the rainbow bridge. I understand memorial items aren't for everyone, but it's what my family and I wanted in our dog's memory. My dog passed away Saturday night into Sunday morning, and I contacted Hamlar Pet Cremation for aftercare services. I want to be clear that the gentleman who came to pick up my dog was kind, respectful, and compassionate. My concerns are not with him, but with the communication, professionalism, and handling that followed. Over the course of approximately a day and a half, I spoke with at least three different employees. During each conversation, I specifically asked whether I would be allowed to come in and make my own clay paw impression, as Hamlar does not offer this service. I explained that I have professional experience in this field and understood what would be required. Every person I spoke with assured me that this would not be a problem and that I would be able to come see my pet and complete the impression myself. When the day came for me to do so, I was suddenly told this was not permitted. This directly contradicted what I had been told multiple times by multiple employees. I was then repeatedly pressured to make an immediate decision regarding an ink paw print before cremation could proceed. Due to the inconsistent information and lack of professionalism, I made the decision to retrieve my dog and transfer him to another facility. What was most upsetting was the condition my dog was in when he was returned to me. I understand the realities of postmortem changes and decomposition, and based on both personal and professional experience, his condition was not consistent with the timeline of less than two days since his passing. This raised serious concerns for me regarding the conditions in which animals are stored while in their care. I ultimately transferred my dog to Oakey's Pet Funeral Home, where I felt confident he would be treated with the dignity and respect he deserved. Losing a beloved pet is one of the most painful experiences a family can go through. During that time, clear communication, professionalism, and compassionate care are essential. Unfortunately, that was not my experience with Hamlar Pet Cremation. I encourage other pet owners to carefully research their options before entrusting a beloved companion to this facility. I also believe it is important for pet owners to be aware that this facility handles the cremation of both humans and animals in the same location, which may be an important consideration for families when deciding on aftercare arrangements for their pets and even their human loved ones. Furthermore I'd love to hear the "recorded" calls because I was told 3 separate times I would be able to see my pet and do a clay paw. If you want this to be discussed you have my information. She was able to come that afternoon, which was a tremendous relief because I didn't think Brutus' suffering could go on much longer. She was gentle, respectful, caring, and informed me of what could happen every step of the process. I am very pleased with the way my dog is treated with them. I started going to this vet office before Dr. Terry retired, who I thought was an amazing vet. Dr. Maureen has done a really great job in taking over the practice. My pup saw her a lot before Terry left, and now we've seen more of Dr. Michelle. They do what my pup needs and are very pet oriented. I've never felt uncomfortable or off when they take my pup back for tests. I noticed a negative review in regard to wait time, however, the wait time is typically MUCH less wait time than my own health appointments, but there are occasions where it's right on time. Perhaps because they are so thorough appointments take more sometimes. I don't mind a little wait if I know I'm getting quality service at a fair price. I think the same reviewer complained about price too, but it's half what I'd pay in NVa with everything else being commensurate. Also, I boarded my dog here one time and he seemed happy when I picked him up. Good sign. (I hate boarding my "loneliness therapy dog.")
