So, basically, the simplest way I can sum up what this style of music does to me is to explain a real scenario that happened to me recently. Driving home from a long and even more agitating day of work than usual, I decide to try to relax myself through some mind-numbing music. I figure all of the BS going through my head can be squashed best by the musical stylings of John Tesh and Kenny G and the like. After all, it is smooth jazz- meant to relax the mind and the body. That is what it is designed for. That, or inspiring musicians to create their own version of adult film soundtracks. To my surprise, and only after about 10 minutes of listening, it did nothing but agitate me more. My anxiety levels grew rapidly. My heart rate began to rise. Sweat beaded on my brow. My jaw clenched tighter and tighter. I tried my best to shake it off, but I kept getting more and more wound up. My knuckles were whitening due to the death grip I had on the steering wheel. "This music is just too... weak... too... slow... too... soft... too... " I couldn't get my mind around it, and that only brought me more stress. I couldn't even properly drive at this point- my neck being too stiff to turn and check my rear view mirrors; my body petrified. Forget adult film soundtrack, this was the soundtrack to my own personal hell on an early Monday evening. I broke free from the grasp of the cooing saxophone solo that was bleeding my ears dry and changed the channel to XRT, and what was most likely either Coldplay, The Police, or U2 (because they have a quota of those three bands taking up no less than 60% of their play list at all times), and this monotonous, predictable and honestly very boring airplay they dish out is probably more of what I needed to allow my brain to decompress. So why the two stars? Like I said- I don't want to even pretend to be an authority on music. If it gives you pleasure to listen to smooth jazz- more power to you! But unless I plan on getting all amped up to rob a liquor store or something, I won't be having my radio dial turn to 87.7 FM.

Their disc jockeys jockey up a bunch of classic rock. It makes me feel old what they consider "Classic" rock. Their DJs are pretty funny, but vapid. I generally change the channel when they come on. I'll stick around if they play some Stairway again, or some Skynyrd. Is it just me, or does there seem to be a lot of commercials on this station? I was hoping for more country and western music, instead of Tom Petty again. They do play a lot of his stuff. WDRV used to broadcast from the Hancock building, but now they're in Prudential Plaza, with their antenna on top of the Aon Center. The station is owned by Hubbard Media, and can be tuned in on a smart speaker.

Today is the debut of WMVP's nw lineup as ESPN Radio has changed around their schedule. As WMVP has…read morechanged around their lineup as well from 7 AM to 2 PM. They are techieonally having a new morning show with David Kaplan and Jonathon Hood that hosted nights, and how much did he and Jeff Dickerson did the show Dickerson and Hood. From 5:00 to 7:00 AM they air ESPN Radio's new morning show of Keyshawn Johnson, Jay Williams and Zubin Mehenti. so from 7 AM to 10 AM is David Kaplan and Jonathan which doesn't seem like a morning radio show, as most of them are 4 hours, and either air in the time slot of 5 AM to 9 AM, or 6 AM to 10 AM. From 10 AM to Noon Carmen DeFalco and John "Jurko" Jurkovic. Noon-2:00 PM is Mike Greenberg's show that is on a 1 hour tape delay, as Mike Greenberg is doing his show from Noon to 2 PM (eastern time), and Waddle and Silvy are keeping their hours untouched. So they are going too be the only team working 4 hours. And from 6:00-8:00 is Chris Bleck and Adam Abdalla which includes the baseball show from 6:00-7:00 PM. Don't know what the plan is at 8 PM assuming will be ESPN Radio national programming where they might keep the taped delayed The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz show, don't know. And how about that even through it will be on tape delay the return of Mike Greenberg to WMVP where listeners have heard him for many years off Mike and mike with Mike Golic, that they show ended as Mike Greenberg moved on to do Up First, that he still does, and Mike Golic moved on to do Golic and Wing, with his son Mike Golic Jr, that has recently been canceled after a close to a 3 year run.

Maybe now, Jonathan Hood can have his own full time show. E. Post Game (6-7 PM) is a good idea. If you miss a major interview that day, you'll get them in this one hour time slot. F. WHY Is Mike Murphy on this (or any) station for that matter? Fred Hubner makes it tolerable but Murphy is PLAYED OUT. This is the man who called Walter Payton "Wally" & was promptly put back in check (with a snicker of disbelief, he told Murphy "dont call me Wally"). Classic cluster when interviewing the '69 Cubs about the record (Cub Power) they did, Murphy took weirdness to a new level (even for sports talk). How awkward? Well. Like this: "Now. Were you guys uh.. singers in the. I can picture you all in the show... SOAPING UP.. and singing.. and then someone saying 'hey we gotta get this thing down on vinyl, huh?" Does he have naked pictures on someone? At least I don't have to hear that STUPID Intro he used to have years ago (with the Leisure Suits Light). If you want to bring back nostalgia, bring back the Monsters of the Midday (aka,Jiggetts & North). Now the flip side is that once he's off the air, we get the National Broadcast of Marty & McGee from 1-3PM. Now THIS is some fun radio. Those two are worth a listen.

No. I don't have a fantasy baseball/football/soccer team that I meet with secretly like that laissez faire husband in "Knocked Up." And no, I'm not the kind of sports radio junkie that views every second that some multi-millionaire athlete wants to spout cliches the way Amy Crackhouse does rehab: A neat place to rest until I wake up. What I like to do is laugh, unexpectedly and uncontrollably . Terry (Boers), a former veteran sports scribe, & Dan (Bernstein) a truly intelligent smart-aleky wise ass, are wizards at high and low-brow humor. When it comes to sports, there are no corked bat homers here who blindly "rah-rah" every home team. And when it comes to serious sports issues, B&B were among the 1st people I'd heard talk about the ills and impact of steriods in baseball years ago, long before ESPN begrudgingly acknowledged it. When I lived out-of-state, coming to Chicago on Thursdays to hear B&B's signature segment, "Who Ya Crappin'?" in which people call and e-mail into the show to go off on obvious lies that celebrities, politicians and other public figures...ending with line, "Who Ya Crappin'?"
