We had an amazing visit to the Webb Military Museum! A special thank you to Lorie, the volunteer who helped our group. She was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and kind--especially with our three small children. Lorie gave us a brief history of how the museum started and explained the items came from Mr. Webb's personal collection. She answered all of the kids' questions with patience and kindness, which made the experience even more enjoyable for our family. The collection itself is very impressive, featuring artifacts from the U.S., Germany, the Vietnam era, and even items connected to Hussein. There is so much to see and learn. We truly appreciated the warm welcome and the time Lorie spent with us. It made our visit memorable! read more

A privately owned military museum, this is no more than a large room, but is packed with historic memorabilia. While the owner was not there the day I visited, the retired Army medic who was working was nonetheless able to provide a lot of detailed information about the provenance of some of the artifacts. Pretty much the whole military history of the country is covered, and while you certainly won't get a comprehensive historical treatise, for someone who is already knowledgeable, the details here will add color to textbook history. For me, I had to settle for this after finding that Parris Island was closed to non-service members for the weekend, and while it certainly is nothing like that experience would have been, this little museum nonetheless provides a compelling entry to the variety of historical sites in Savannah. read more

We read the reviews and just knew that we had to stop in! We were visiting Savannah for a long weekend and during our time there, we took the hop on/hop off trolley and there was a stop about 1 block away from this museum. Webb Military Museum is a gem in Savannah! It is small, but packed with SO MANY artifacts you don't know where to look first! We were greeted by the owner and he spend time with us giving us the highlights of his private collection and stories from his childhood in Europe, his parents, etc. It was a real personal insight that placed you in war torn Europe. This made it a one-of-a-kind experience. The cases are organized by the war and there were various artifacts that we have never seen before. It was great for the military buff I was with, but even though I am not really interested in this type of museum, it was still very much worth seeing because it highlights such an important time in our history. So definitely go check it out. read more

The Webb Military Museum is a great little gem of Savannah. An amazingly huge personal collection of military paraphernalia and artifacts that is shared with the world. It's a walk thru history from the 18th century to modern day. You may look at it as a bunch of cluttered stuff jammed into this small space, but if you give it adequate time to examine each cabinet, above, below, and in between them, you'll keep finding treasures. I'm pretty sure I could visit this museum numerous times and find things I missed on previous visits. The biggest down side to such a crammed display of artifacts though is the lack of space to adequately label or explain each item. Being an Army vet myself with a deep interest and knowledge of military history helped, as did exploring the place with two other military history nerds. I recommend bringing one with you too unless you can get Mr. Webb to give you a tour. read more

Yeah this was one of the highlights of my Christmas Trip to Savannah. I found out about this place thanks to the Trolley Tour I took on Day 1 - - our colorful driver "Ellis" mentioned this place and highly recommended it. He also said anything is for sale inside - everything has a price. Turned out to be a really informative and interesting experience. The lady who worked there gave me the low-down, it's Mr Webb's private collection, dedicated to his parents. It's $10 and I saw the awesome memorabilia and there were a lot of items there I've never seen in real life - only on TV or documentaries. So go for it. Triple A you get a $1 discount. So many cool things here, every war we've been in, and she told me some really cool stories. Best visits I'd say to go are when Mr Webb is there (she said if you email him and request his presence that he will try to make it there and provide the tour himself). He tells a lot of great stories, but she also filled me in as well. Also if you're the only one there- that's a great time too because she'll have the time to explain some stories in detail. The German Soldier's war helmets - that have been hit with shrapnel and damaged by gunfire - you know they didn't live through that. Those were eye opening. Lots of old newspapers and articles there. The story about the Red Baron and how he was murdered - that was really cool, she explained it to me. I thought this place really took you back in time. I told her that I think every kid or history class should do a tour here and walk through to get the real deal so you can link it to your textbooks and google. She said they do have class tours here - - a great experience I wish I had when I was a kid growing up learning about our history. Really cool place that I highly recommend! This was a last minute decision and a very worthwhile one. We spent almost a full hour looking through the collection. When we arrived, Alice, was very helpful and informative. We completed a scavenger hunt to go along with each of the cases and received a "prize" at the end. She also gave us a complimentary Savannah book. A very unique and diverse collection of military weapons, uniforms, documents, photos, and other sundries spanning more than a century. Mr. Webb himself was there the day I went, and gave a intriguing overview of his family history and his connection to his personal collection. Very cool small museum tucked away in historic Savannah. Owner is very friendly and knowledgeable, and has lots of stories and information about the collection. Essentially his personal collection, well-displayed and with captions about the origin of each artifact. Lots of uniforms, some weapons, plenty of artwork and small items. And, a surprise for this airplane geek, a MiG-21 nose hidden away behind the entry. From Russia by way of East Germany, it is well-preserved and accompanied by helmets, pressure suit, logbook, etc. Kid-friendly, though our toddler didn't get much out of it- wait till they're school age. Well worth a visit if you're a history buff, and even if you're not- some amazing personal stories behind the history. Makes history come to life, and brings it close to you- these are your parents and grandparents, and seeing what they went through is profound. read more

We spent four days in Savannah doing all the usual stuff - touring old homes, going on ghost tours, experiencing former slave quarters, but our very favorite outing? The Webb Military museum. Wow! It is fantastic. It's a small space packed full with artifacts dating from the Revolutionary War - Cold War. If you're lucky enough to go when Mr Webb is there, it makes the experience even that more grand. Thank you to Mr Webb for caring enough to collect and share history that is vital to understanding this great country's journey up to today. He greatly impacted our 14 and 18 year old children. We were visiting Amelia Island, FL from Michigan and decided to take a day trip to Savannah. After hitting up BRCC for coffee, I took my two sons to the Webb Museum (ages 18 and 13). We knew it was a fairly small building, and thought it might be kind of cool, but we really didn't know what to expect. We were BLOWN away by the content and quality. So many amazing, unique, historical and personal items. We could have spent much longer here...and wish we did. We actually bought our tickets from the owners daughter. She was amazing. Sweet, helpful and knowledgeable. My son was purchasing a souvenir on the way out, and the owner himself walked in! That was so great. I wish I could have stayed and talked to him for hours. He was super cool and I am SO thankful that he is sharing his collection with the world. It would have been great to actually do a tour of the museum with him. Some of the stories he was telling us about his collection were insane. But we all learned a lot. And we saw many things we'd never seen or even heard of before. There were literally too many cool items to list. I sincerely hope we get the chance to come back some day and see the collection (and family) again. read more

A truly amazing collection of military history throughout the ages, amassed by a private collector, Mr. Webb. It's not a huge space and yet, every inch is utilized to display uniforms, weaponry, things soldiers carried, war art, curiosities, correspondence, headlines, photographs, etc. grouped by era. One could spend hours here. The museum is organized well with things aplenty. If military / war history is your thing, this place is well worth the few bucks to check it out. It's a self guided tour, although my experience was that there was a proprietor on site to provide back story on the museum itself, the Webb family, and some of the more notable objects. There are also items for sale from the collection. Be advised that if you're sensitive to energy, this place is heavy. Shielding & clearing may be in order. read more

This museum is incredible! It is a self guided tour of a personal military memorabilia museum with items from the Civil War through the Gulf War. My husband and I visited here on a whim at the beginning of July and have been telling everyone about it since! First off, both Gary and the woman who works in the morning (so sorry I forgot your name!) are friendly and knowledgeable! When we first walked in, we were greeted by the woman working the front desk. She explained the collection to us, told us the pricing, and showed us a news article from WWII. With that, we were sold! For $22, we had two cold bottles of water, and admission to the museum. The woman also told us that Gary would be arriving in about a half hour, so if we had any specific questions, we could ask him. Everything in the museum is labeled, and everything tells a story. In our opinion, the most memorable pieces in the museum were items taken from Hitler's home, a jacket and a painting taken that belonged to Saddam Hussein, and the gas mask that I believe Gary's mother wore in England during WWII. The amount of history contained in that building is unbelievable. This is a Savannah Must! read more

There's no sort of progression to this collection, it is literally some dude who tried to buy a piece of EVERY WAR SINCE the CIVIL WAR. Knock him if you want (and this is easy to do- his collection is scattered and chaotic), but there's lots to see here. But, if you actually TAKE TIME to review his collection, you realize mr. Webb literally spent his entire life & fortune to pay respect to those who served. Kind of a little museum, of interest to nobody but Veterans over the age of 50, but worth a stop for them, while the wives take tea in one of those many Savannah mini-mansions. read more

This museum is one of a kind. It is well laid out and packed with a lot of interesting items from many different wars and conflicts. What makes this place special is the owner Gary. He stayed open later for my family and I to walk though. As he walked with us, he gave great additional information about the items and history. This museum is amazing! It's a definite must see when in Savannah. It's a museum filled with historical objects that Gary, the museum owner, has collected since he was 12 years old. Some of the stuff is from his parents in world war 1 and 2, other stuff is from people who have given it to him to display for others to see. Gary is there to answer any of your questions, he can even walk you through the exhibits, explaining what each item is and what it's significance is. When I went he was so friendly and welcoming. He walked me through the museum, talked me through anything I had questions on and even stayed behind to talk with me about random history facts that didn't even have to do with the museum. What a gem! This museum is privately owned and operated by Mr. Gary Webb, who has been collecting military memorabilia since the age of 11. He is very personable and had family who was involved in both World Wars (and other wars as well), so not only are the artifacts in the museum fascinating, but so are Mr. Webb's stories. I highly recommend talking to him if you visit, he is enthusiastic and eager to share his family history. The building itself is also an interesting historical piece of architecture--it used to be a barn! This museum is particularly great for WWII buffs, but there are artifacts from American wars starting from the Revolutionary War and more recent ones like Vietnam. The artifacts in the museum are presented in a much more interesting manner than most museums. Rather than presenting them in the typical sterile, "white glove" style denoting the year and use of the artifact, Mr. Webb has the stories behind the artifacts posted. This allows you to more clearly picture what life must have been like for the brave men and women who fought in the wars that are featured in this museum. If only all museums would take note, I think many more people would be interested in and (gasp!) even enjoy history if it was always presented in such an exemplary manner. read more
