This is a great museum for kids with lots of outdoor activities. I love the way its set up, the employees are also around in case you have questions, which is nice. Cute, but I'm kind of on the fence if it was actually worth the price we paid for entry. It's $16 per person-- 18 months and up, which I sort of think is ridiculous. I would say the inside is more geared towards older children (at least 10+) and adults. My 6 and 2 year old could have cared less about any of the exhibits. They went through the mirror maze several times, but my 2 year old kept bashing into the mirrors. The outdoor portion was better. There was quite a few things for younger kids to do, to include a water table, painting on plexiglass glass, a dinosaur scavenger hunt, games, building blocks, play structure, etc. They had some tables and chairs set up for crafts, story time, and even let the kids pet a tortoise. While this area was nice, I felt like a lot of these activities could be found or done for free at local parks or a library. It was a nice break from the beach, but I don't think the cost is worth it for me to go back or refer it to friends. read more

Such a fun place for kids! We have a 1 yo and he's loving exploring and there's so much for him to do here! The lower level has the most for his age with a garden and life sized building blocks and even a kitchen play set which my son absolutely loved! Everyone that was there was so nice and happy! Great place for kids. All outdoor except a converted rail car which has some toys. There is a large tent and the "downstairs " area play area has places to get away from the sun. I think it may close if there is rain. There's a bathroom (2) outside the yard and one at the train area. I didn't notice a baby changing area, but the bathroom is large and clean. The cost was about $50 for combo ticket (Railroad + Children's Museum) and train ride for 2 adults and one 3yo toddler. Kids under 2 are free. This place was very empty around 11am on Easter Sunday. There was a sandbox, craft stable, scavenger hunt, corn hole, big bowling, and blue foam blocks. In the lower level, there was a maze, plants, play blocks, and some playground structures. This museum entertained our kids, ranging from 1.5 to 8, for a couple hours. If you're from the Bay Area, this was much smaller than the Bay Area Discovery Museum (with maybe 1/3 of the options) but was also cheaper. read more

Last Sunday there were a bunch of free museums in the city and we figured what better way to spend the day with kids. So for that purpose we chose the children's museum which was interconnected with the railroad museum although I think if you come when it's not free you pay for each. This children's museum is nestled in an old ruin which is very unique. However, since I'm not from the south one issue I found almost immediately was that the location itself had no roof, so essentially you're outside the whole time and the south gets extremely hot so horrible idea for late spring/ summer months. Now I've been to many children's museums in many different cities and for me calling this place a children's museum is a little far fetched. There were 2 slides, a maze, some blocks and a few other stimulate activities but all in all a let down if you're thinking "children's museum". The staff were friendly enough. Thankfully it was free Sunday because I would have been extremely annoyed paying the regular admission price for a family of 5. read more

Full disclosure, I have two kids 4 and under so I am unapologetically obsessed with the Savannah Children's Museum. We have a family membership to the Coastal Heritage Society ($100/yr gets you unlimited access to all 6 of their museums and up to 5 guests per visit!) Which is hands down the best investment ever if you are home with kids and want to get out of the house. I can't say enough wonderful things about this place. First, it is on the same grounds as the Georgia Railroad Museum so you always get a look at what is happening there and can hop on a quick train ride if you so desire and time it right. The SCM is mostly outdoor in the "ruins?" of the old railroad grounds. Beautiful. It is two levels so there are spots to get out of the sun and lots of areas to explore. There is a gate with a code (and very heavy door) so kids escaping is not a concern. There is typically a craft or two for the kids to work on, a scavenger hunt, and a topic they are teaching on as well. I talk to the employees regularly and they are awesome. They often catch bugs or lizards and set them out in the terrarium for kids to look at and learn about. They have a storytime at 10:30 most days also. My 4 year old is obsessed with the huge sensory table (it is either water or sand depending on the day/season) when you first walk in. My 1 year old loves to explore all the musical features, including the boom sticks and the wooden gator (it has mallets attached so they can bop out some beats). There's a couple gardens, a huge slide down to the bottom level, a huge maze (that changes from time to time), huge building blocks/foams. An old railroad car that has been converted into an air conditioned craft/game area inside. I could go on! But you should just check it out next time you're looking for something fun to entertain the kids. There are some picnic tables just outside the museum so pack a lunch and let the kids burn some energy. read more

They really made something out of nothing here. The "museum is almost completely outside between 2 dilapidated railcar buildings (the children's museum is next to the railcar museum). We visited the SCM this past Sunday in honor of Savannah's free museum Sunday! The atmosphere was perfect. They truly offer a stress-free environment for both parents and children! The SCM has a ton of different sensory play options from dirt and water to sand and paint. The maze and slide are always a hit with my children. We had a group of 8 kids ranging from 3-13. Everyone enjoyed the visit. One child in the group is autistic and an other has sensory processing disorder. This was the place for them to explore. We had such a great Sunday afternoon! read more

While visiting Savannah, we were looking for things to do with our family. We decided to give this place a try. I was reluctant at first because it just seemed like a subpar playground that you had to pay to get in to. However, I am so thankful we gave this place a try because our children loved it. The staff was so friendly and the programs they did, such as craft time and story time, were so intentional. Great job. The hands on activities exhausted our children to the point they slept soundly at nap time. It also allowed us to interact in ways with our children we previously haven't had the opportunity to. Was here with my 7 and 4 year old on a trip to Savannah and opted for the three choice ticket. We started at the Railroad museum and then went over to the Children's Museum which is an outdoor play area. It is in a old building and the design and set up is very cool. While we were there, they had 3 staff members doing a craft with shaving cream and colors. It was not very well organized and they did not seem to want to help much since it was making a mess. There are 2 slides, a maze, and building blocks. The kids had fun for about 30-45 minutes and they were done. I think you can find alternative play areas in parks for free since if you have older kids they probably won't be entertained long (which is in the marketing materials). It was a great option for us with the multi day selections since we were in town for limited time. read more

We visited the museum during Super Museum Sunday. The "museum" is more like an interactive play area for kids. It's a great option for kids to run around and explore. They had a few slides, a sand table, a maze and a garden area to name a few. We were also able to board a 106 year old locomotive train which was pretty cool because she gave us a little history lesson on the ride. My children are 6 and 8 and they had a great time. I would recommend this place for children between the ages of toddler up to 9 years. read more

We took my 20 month old daughter to the Children's Museum and she had a blast! They had a baby corn snake out for visits and the handler was eager to share information about him. There was also a list of events and start times. They had coloring, bubble painting, a variety of musical instruments, all types of building blocks, a reading nook, a really neat maze, lots of different herbs and plants, chalk board, and slides. There was also a misting station. Excellent to cool down. There is also an air conditioned box car with legos, train table, and books. This museum is magical. There a bunch of little areas to play like the maze, garden, musical instruments, chalk, a train with reading books and crafts and a story time. There is also a train exhibit that you could add on to. My toddler loved playing here and spend 2 hours running around. Staff was friendly. read more

Let me just preface this review by saying something VERY important: This isn't a children's museum for tourists (unless you REALLY need to burn a few hours with small kids... but we have Forsyth for that). It is, however, a really wonderful spot for locals who have young kids with lots of energy. I wish they'd change the name of this place, because it's a really wonderful spot but it gets a lot of flack for not being your usual "children's museum." It's hardly a museum, but it's a secure and fun area for your kids to play, express their creativity, and do so securely. I have an 18 month old, a 3 year old, and a 5 year old. We have a membership (which, by the way, gets you into the train museum and Fort Jackson as well, and is only $100/year--billable at $25/mo!) so we come here a lot. There is only one way in and out, and that HEAVY gate requires a code to get in... in other words, I can actually look away from one child for a few minutes or relax in a chair without fearing that one of my kids may run off or get scooped up by a stranger (did I mention that this place is never busy?) That feature alone is worth $100/year for me. As a military spouse who gets very few hours alone to myself on a weekly basis, SCM is basically a spa. I'm not saying come here, dump your kids, and don't pay attention to them. But if you need to breathe and you have anxiety and very, um, "spirited" kids like I do... this place is heaven. And don't let the "this isn't a museum!!!!" reviews fool you--though it's nothing like your neighborhood science museum, there is plenty here for kids to do, and a cooled (or heated) train car with activities inside for escaping from the sun when needed. You can bring your dog, your little red wagon, your stroller, whatever... full of snacks and drinks and sunscreen. The kids can color, play in sand, play in water, make music, build giant forts, slide, go through a maze, do a scavenger hunt, explore plants, and there's a misting station during the summer. If you're a stay-at-home mom with kids between the ages of 1 and 5, it's well worth the membership. I probably wouldn't come here more than once or twice a year if we had to pay the standard $8/person to get in, but with the membership, we're here as often as we can get out... and we love it every time! This was an adorable Children's Museum - different from any I'd visited in the past. With nearly everything outdoors, there was a mixture of planned events for kids and various free play stations for kids. From baby to 10, your kids will entertain themselves for a few hours. Paid admission for the Children's Museum and while paying I inquired with Mason (the gentleman at the register) about the train ride to which he informed me that was a Separate ticket was required for the train. So I paid for a second set of tickets for me and my grandson. After being in the museum for an hour it started to rain and they shut down. While asking Mason what my options were I THEN learned that there was a "combo" ticket available for both museums. I asked him WHY Hey! didn't offer that to me initially and he had some lame excuse. Probably overpriced if you pay for just the museum, but if you do this as a package deal or with a membership, this is well worth the money. Our four year old had a blast. The area is pretty perfect for kids. Lots of alcoves to hide in, crafts, music making, and a maze that entertained her for quite a while. A big part of the museum is a story below the main level and there are lots of viewing areas from above. We could watch her in the maze and stay out of her way. read more

Someone in charge of this museum is knowledgeable about child development. It is set up so children can move from station to station following their sensory interest. They did a good job of retaining the old brick walls and archways from the former train station? I did expect some inside area that would give kids a break from heat and sunshine and maybe be more informational based. There was a misting station that appeared to not be working or maybe not turned on. Our granddaughter is 15 months and her favorite thing was the large stairway (not meant to be a station) I noticed a 2 yr old that just loved the ramp on the top level. Kids make their own fun at this place! As we left I watched some 9-11 yr olds that were having a blast with giant Lego type building blocks. Walking by the old steam engine train as it started up was also fun. We did not go to the train museum but saved that for a future visit. When we move closer we will definitely buy a family pass that gets you into these 2 museums and 2 others in Savannah. The person that gave this place 1 star review just missed the point. Children's play can be imaginative and does not have to be electronic. There are plans for a giant pirate ship, nautical theme. The area must be about at least 300 yards long. I can't wait to see how they develop that area. Cost was $7.00 but worth it. Be sure to take Sunscreen! read more

But Rebecca(selling tickets), the face of your museum, was extremely rude, dry, and uninformative. She was extremely unprofessional. So it's not a Museum but a small playground. It's about $8 per person and even if you are 100+ years old, you would still have to pay. They should only charge children with of certain age. This is a really cool outdoor space. The employees are friendly. Unfortunately it's really lacking in upkeep and activities. I definitely wouldn't call this a children's museum, it's more of a glorified outdoor play place. There is not really any of the cool exploration or science stations like I'm used to seeing at children's museums, and oven been to 10 All over the US. This one is the most disappointing and overpriced for sure. The maze Looks cool enough, but could have been infinitely more interesting if it had sensory play on the walls or even cool artwork. The toys are really nothing more interesting then Day-care toys and possibly in worse shape. My toddler played mostly on the slide and the water table, which we could have done for free at a park and in the bathtub. Had this been a 4-5 dollar entry fee it could have been a 4 star review, but I just feel $8 is really steep for the lack of things to do here and the condition of the toys. read more

We just took my 1.5 year old niece and my 3 week old daughter here - obviously, my child didn't get much out of it but the 1.5 year old ran her legs off! It's quite well organized and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. There's a maze, storybook area, slides and climbing equipment as well as sand/water tables, giant blocks and a kid-friendly garden. We had to leave just as one of the educational programs was starting, but it seemed quite interesting. I also very much appreciated that the entire place was stroller-friendly and their well-appointed changing/nursing mother area, complete with cushioned rocking chairs and hand sanitizer. We'll be coming back next year to get the year-long pass, which includes several other Savannah museums. read more

Visited with my 5 year old, it's about $8 a person as soon as you come in the parking lot you don't really see any signs of a children museum. You see signs for a train museum but when you go inside this gift shop located by the parking lot you can purchase the entrance tickets and they will show you the way in. It's a historic place alright, but as far as a kid exciting adventure place not really. Came here thinking there was more going on, not really. Some old toys for kids to play with, about two slides and some plants for kids to look at. Little activity here and there but most will bore kids quickly. I would rather just go to chuck e cheese next time, there's more to do there for the price. Not saying there's anything wrong here but don't expect much when you come in. read more

This place was fantastic! Less a "museum" and more a play place, my husband and I were visiting Savannah with our 2 daughters (3 years old and 9 months) and wanted somewhere for the 3 year old to burn off some energy. It's $7.50 a person for entry for anyone over 18 months, so it was a little expensive for all of us but you can definitely spend a lot of time here! It's in a beautiful old foundry and they have preserved the integrity of the old brick buildings so it's very aesthetically cool. There is so much for the kids to do- a sand/water sensory table, musical instrument stuff, dress up stations, a maze, puzzles, foam building blocks, a water mister, a couple slides and a rock climbing wall- you can easily stay for the entire time it's open (which I think is 10am-4pm most days)! It's entirely gated so your little ones can't accidentally wander out. They have several planned activities throughout the day- like science time, story time, an art project (today was finger stamping), and a fitness station where they brought out hula hoops. We didn't see the science project as we left prior to it starting. Other interesting tidbits- they have an air conditioned train car for nursing moms that also has a lot of first aid stuff (for inevitable skinned knees) and changing tables in it. They also have train car that is air conditioned with arts and craft tables (markers, crayons, paper) and a large reading station with pillows and couches (and books of course). There is a drinking fountain on the top level and a vending machine for drinks near the entrance, plus restrooms available outside the gated entrance and in the railroad museum gift shop. Not a ton of shady areas but there are scattered benches throughout under some trees and picnic tables with umbrellas where some activities are, enough to escape the sun for a bit. My daughter definitely didn't want to leave! read more

Wish I read the reviews before we went here. This is by far one of the worst children's museums I have seen. I spent about $16 on admission for the two of us. The big challenge is most of this museum is outside with very little shade. You might as well go to Forsythe Park for free. Save your money.
