It was a little off the cuff so I didn't have the image with me, so I asked if I could email it to them - no problem, I was told. But it was, for me! Little did I know that I'd be charged for sending them an email! Anyway, I asked them to print off one copy, which they did, but it came out on really thin paper and the ink looked a little blotchy. So I asked for it to be done again on thicker paper. This copy came out really well so I was happy, until the price came; £3.10!!! Now, I know £3.10 in the grand scheme of things isn't a lot of money, but I was charged 30p for sending them an email, 20p for the first piece of paper, 30p for the next and the rest for printing it - ridiculous! Who charges for accepting an email? Sorry Cartridge Right, but never again!

Their name suggests just an ink cartridge provider (which they are, and with a very good range too), but they do more than that. They also repair broken computers, run PC health checks and can upgrade your system for very competitive prices. If you're feeling environmentally conscious, you can also recycle old cartridges here. I really like their attitude to their business too; they went independent around 18 months ago from being a franchise and now run a little Bristol based business in order to keep prices low and customers happy. The staff in the shop are always really helpful, even if they have a lot on their hands.

When I visited as a student - buying something really dull like extension cables and something to do with a modem - I felt like the only bit of colour in an otherwise white, grey and black world. I flounced in and had no idea where to go and what to ask for, and felt immediately ridiculous! I asked the nearest assistant for help, and felt that he, too, probably thought I was ridiculous! They are very, very helpful in here, and luckily very patient when faced with absurd people like me who think it's somehow kooky and endearingly old-fashioned not to have a clue about extension leads! All I know is that I have always managed to get what I need in here, even if I don't entirely understand exactly what I'm buying.

The staff, who do seem to be new everytime I go in there, are nonetheless very helpful, and always have good knowledge of technology to help you out. Its only let down is the slight feeling they're a jack of all trades and a master of none - their sound section, for example, houses only the most basic kind of microphones and P.As. If you're after quality then you might be better going to a specialist shop for the product required. All in all, though, Maplins is a pretty useful shop to have in this good position on Gloucester Road.

In the store there are PCs, laptops, monitors, speakers, mouses, mouse pads and everything else you could conceive of buying for your home/office computer. It's very clean inside, and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, but most of the time you could either (a) find out how to fix computer problems yourself, via your favourite search engine, or (b) buy the hardware/software cheaper than at this store, via your favourite search engine. My phone was in perfect working condition bar the charging port. The gorilla replaced the port and said it works fine now. I got home and put it on charge and guess what it still didn't charge. I took it back for him to say it must be my cable and said I should buy a new cable. I go to try it again at home and it still does not work. I go back again and ask for him to fix the charging port and a refund on the cable, he did actually fix the port this time but refused to give me a refund on the cable because I couldn't prove I bought it from them (they didn't issue a receipt for it). I now have a phone that is charging but once the phone is on I discover a load more problems. The screen is ruined, the battery life is depleted and I have very poor signal. Now I recently to it to another phone repair place (the is one literally opposite this shop) and they were brilliant. But when they opened my phone they realised that the battery inside was not the original (I've never had my battery replaced). The guy told me that it was very common practise for The Phone Shop to take out the original battery and replace it with a very poor one. This means that when you come to realise that your battery is not working, you will go back to The Phone Shop where they will sell you back your original battery for a high price. I would also like say that when my phone was reopened after The Phone Shop's awful job, the guy told me there was loads of screws missing and there was a piece of paper left in my phone. Moral of the story: go anywhere but The Phone Shop to get your phone fixed, they are cons who know nothing about phones.

The guy told me it was a common fault, would cost £25 to fix, and would be ready at closing time. I came back at six, he hasn't tested it but said "I'm sure it's fine, bring it back if there's any problems". Surprise surprise, when I got home the phone still wasn't charging. I took it back the next time I was in Bristol (a few days later) and pointed out that he hadn't fixed it. The guy took it back (no apology), and told me to call back in an hour. When I come back, the phone is at last working and he powers it on to prove. Get home. Switch on phone, now the home button isn't working. Grrrr. I took it back yet again and of course I got no apology for wasting my time, the guy just made a puzzled face and started tinkering with it (as if I wasn't there). After five minutes he said "ok all done, thanks bye". I tested it in front of him and the home button still isn't doing anything. No apology again, he just said "that's strange", followed by another five minutes of pulling at the button with a screwdriver. Finally "ok I think it's done". I tested it myself and finally it was working (though considering what he's done, I'm wondering how long it'll last). Still no apology, he just said "ok thanks bye" and pulls out his own phone and started messing with it. Total joker. Avoid.

For someone like me who knows zilch about computers or any other kind of technological gadgets, CITI computer services was really useful and quick to help. When I went in the shop I must have looked so out of place, like a deer caught in the headlights, abut instead of feeling embarrassed, the staff were able to help me through my computer problem without patronising me or making me look stupid. This particular branch of PC World is brand new, having only opened about a month ago, and the main…read morething about it is its size. From the front you wouldn't think much of it, but once inside you realize how deceivingly large the place is. Everything is laid out well so you can easily find what you want, and they have a really good variety and range of stock so you will probably be able to find what you are looking for! The one thing I would say is that when I went in there weren't many staff around that I could see, however perhaps someone was off sick or something, I guess you never know. I was looking for a new camera lead and the guy I spoke to was really helpful and friendly, which is always nice! It's a very modern and clean store, and I have nothing bad to say about it. In fact, its probably the best PC World I've ever stepped into.

The way people say they've asked it to do too much and it's crashed, yet if I crash at work that's not acceptable. Nonetheless the little blighters are so interwoven in our lives we have little choice but to use them. And when they have their little breakdowns and tantrums you bring them to places like this. Aptly named Computers, they do what it says on the tin: sales, repairs, upgrades, and laptop repair and data recovery. Don't ask me how they do it. They just do. They have a shop on Midland Raod just off Old Market and also on Gloucester Road in Bishopston. When my last computer broke down I used these guys for a bit f advice. Unfortunately there was no chance of repairing it, but they were very helpful and gave a number of other options to proceed with, including offering me their stock of computers to choose from. If you are having problems, if its a software issue they'll be able to fix it remotely, by gaining access to your computer and then fixing the problem from their office (obviously you have to give consent for this and they'll stay on the phone with you whilst they're fixing it). I reckon that's a really good idea and saves on a lot of cost (both for the customer and the company). Whilst this can help sort out the issue, if it's a hardware roblem then they'll have to attend your house or take the computer away for repair. Either way, their an impressive small outfit and worth a try.
