On the road from Ottawa back to Toronto I decided to stop in for some Chinese Food to take home. My wife and I try different places all the time looking for the best tasting. But old school really counts towards the vibe! Well, our reigning champ is in Havelock (Garden). But, unfortunately was not open today. I looked at the reviews on Yelp and found Wee Wok looked like a good place to try. I stopped in at Wee Wok and placed the order and within 20 minutes I was back on the road. Probably an hour and a half later I was home. Food was all still hot enough - they double bagged everything for me to retain some heat for the drive. To start on the food, I have to say it was all very good. I rarely want to give a 5/5 because there is always the possibility of finding better and now what do you do? Had: Spring Rolls, Egg Rolls, Szechuan Beef, Wonton Soup, Mushroom Fried Rice, Almond Chicken Soo Gui (gravy on the side) and Shanghai Noodles. (Note) My wife was Covid+ at the time so her sence of taste and smell was off. But she loved the comfort of the Chinese Food. And gave it 2 thumbs up. I Found the spring roll to taste unique (herbs?), not unpleasant just unexpected. I liked that it was different. My wife could not detect anything. The Won Ton Soup was tasty and the pork was thick and very tender. Very good, maybe the best ever. The Szechuan Beef was a bit light on beef, but I loved the sauce on the fried rice. Rice was good, Egg Rolls were good, Shanghai noodles were fine, not spectacular. Almond Chicken - great thick crunchy coating, not really greasy. All and all very enjoyable, and was prepared quickly. The service was very nice. However, this is the second time I have ordered from WWE and am still disappointed. There aren't any dishes with cashews, no ginger beef, no lemon chicken. I got the kung pao and spring rolls the first time and both were terrible. The spring rolls were basically filled with low quality black bean paste - the lovely crunch of bean sprouts and lightly oiled paper didn't exist. The kung pao was pretty much diced vegetables, no tofu, and a half hearted sauce. This almond vegetables were terrible, all the vegetables skimped and/or old. The wee corns were dry, the water chestnuts barely existent and soggy. And the Shanghai noodles were not terrible, but lacked in vegetables. I ended up combining my almond veg with the Shanghai noodles to make a passable dish. Was to pick up order between 7 and 7:10 pm on Sunday. Wasn't ready until 7:25 which really wasn't a big deal. When I got home and we went to eat, everything was rock hard and we couldn't bite into it. It was too late to call back because they close at 8:00 pm. Called back today Tuesday, as they are closed on Mondays and they wouldn't take responsibility for their overcooked food. Egg rolls, breaded shrimp, lemon chicken, chicken balls were dark brown and hard, not golden like the pictures. They told me the most they could do if I brought it back was to give me a $15 refund out of a $67 order that is going into the garbage. Lady on the phone was very argumentative and kept saying that we just don't like deep fried food. We wouldn't have ordered it if we didn't like it. She said their policy was that you had to call back the same day, but they were closed by the time I got home and got it on our plates. Was suspicious of all the rave 5 star reviews but decided to check out Wee Wok for myself : Pros : Spring (house made?) and Egg Rolls were crispy, tasty, and not greasy. Fried rice was light and also not greasy. Chicken balls were huge and had a large chunk of meat in them. Cons: General Tso Chicken was bland and WAY too ketchup-y. Sweet and Sour sauce was a tasteless blob of almost solid gelatin. Coating on Pepper Steak was mushy and pasty. Prices are high and portions are small. Wee Wok needs to pull up their wee socks. Worth another visit, but if the quality is the same again, I won't be back for a third time. Common Yelpers, help out a fellow food lover. We recently had take-out from Wee Wok Express. It's located in an old house on George St. that formerly housed a Chinese take-out establishment. This new business is family run and they have remodelled the location giving it a fresh, bright look. The owners are very friendly! There is the usual selection of Chinese menu items along with Thai dishes. We were in a hurry so selected a dinner for four. We were pleasantly surprised with the dishes. Everything tasted freshly prepared with lots of fresh vegetables and sauces. It wasn't heavily loaded with fillers like excessive rice, noodles, cabbage, and bean sprouts. The meats were all well-prepared. There was plenty of food for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. It reminded me of what good Chinese food tasted like when I was a kid as opposed to many places that seem to simply order off the Asian wholesale freezer list. They have take-out and delivery and give a 10% discount for take-away when paying with cash. We will happily try them again. read more

This place is great! It's little and is only take out delivery but don't let that deter you! We ordered fried rice, veggies, egg Foo Yong, and the potato onion curry. Everything was cooked fresh while we waited and was delicious. This is our first time to Peterborough and we were often late to get dinner, we were kindly welcomed in at 3 minutes to close (8:57pm) and were offered menus and some history of the place while we waited. Staff was absolutely wonderful and super friendly. They were really helpful and pleasant and definitely understand what good customer service is! They have a massive and diverse menu including standard staples for a Chinese food place and Szechuan, Cantonese and Thai. I found it really awesome that their spicy dishes can be customised on a scale of 0 to 10 in terms of heat. When our order was ready, the guy even walked it out to our car for us. Fresh! Fresh! Fresh! I am not a long time resident of Peterborough and in my few short years here, I have sampled many Chinese restaurants and unfortunately the one word that overwhelmingly comes to mind is , mediocre. I have ordered several dishes from a particular menu and found one or two to shine and the others are quite disappointing. A greasy egg roll for instance can dull my appreciation of dishes to come as I usually eat one first as an appetizer. Vegetables that are cooked far too long or not near enough seem to be the accepted norm from many establishments. Mediocrity is what I call it. Then along came my discovery of Wee Wok Express. I am now on my journey through their fabulous menu. I have yet to be disappointed by a single fork full and yes I said fork full as chopsticks still baffle me. Vegetables cooked perfectly for my taste. Tender and yet still with good tooth. I have never eaten anything that made me think, frozen or processed. Chicken Chop Suey with huge chunks of tender chicken and very little batter on the chicken balls. The eggroll filling is crunchy and the shells are perfection. Beef and pork are always tender and tasty and the shrimp is not all rubbery from over cooking. The flavours are bright and just plain delicious and the sauces are used in proper quantities so as to enhance a dish and not turn it soupy. The service is super. Period. Always personal and friendly and they have never made an error in our orders. My partner has a food allergy and they accommodate her needs without flaw. I enjoy a bit of heat in some dishes but not "rip your face off hot," as some do enjoy. They get it every time. The food arrives at our door piping hot and if we pick it up, it is always ready when they say it will be. The Chefs are masters of wok cookery and they use clean oil for frying. I have never experienced that awful and all permeating flavour that old oil imparts in food. My partner and I will continue to work through the menu for many years to come. Tried the Szechuan Chicken on a Sunday evening. When I opened the dish I had to check twice to see if there was actually chicken in the dish. They had added green cabbage bits to the vegetables and these were tough and uneatable. We used to enjoy their egg rolls. Now they are the same old, same old. Wee Wok has the best Chinese take out in Peterborough, hands down. In fact, they will ruin you for all the other places in town. Never again will you tolerate a soggy chicken ball or a greasy lo mein from those other guys. The food here is incredible, the service friendly and the menu is extensive, covering your traditional Chinese take out dishes, but extending into Szechuan and Thai dishes as well. Word of warning: they are in demand (rightfully so!) and delivery can sometimes take over an hour. Plan accordingly. read more

It was on time, it was hot and it appears to have been made with fresh ingredients. Having said that, the Pad Thai was rather tasteless, Beef and Brocolli tasted, well, odd. Called to order food and was hung up on 3 times then the phone was left off the hook for about 5-10 minutes each time. Afterwards I finally got through and was told it was very busy and deliver would be 2 hours (fair enough, but I now know they were obviously hanging up on purpose) at this point I inquired how much delivery was and was told it was $1.00 per KM if within 3KM, I was within 3KM only about 2KM away. I was then told delivery cost really depends on how much I order and closer to $30.00 the cheaper it will be and is free if over $30.00. So I told them my order which totaled $24.75 before taxes. I was then told my delivery fee would be $5.00. At this point I told them no thanks and hung up. Shady practices like this is just stupid and should never be practiced.
