Extremely disappointing experience. We arrived about 15 minutes late and expected that, at worst, our tour would simply start without us or that we would be offered a reasonable solution. Instead, we were refused completely. What made the situation even worse was that there were six of us (three couples), and each couple was given a different explanation for why we couldn't go. The stories kept changing, making it feel like the staff were simply making up excuses instead of being honest. Good customer service isn't about never having problems--it's about how you treat people when something goes wrong. Unfortunately, this place chose excuses over professionalism. We wasted our time driving there, made plans around this activity, and left feeling frustrated and disrespected. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this business. read more

We rented two singles and two tandem kayaks for our two hour adventure down the river! It is pretty fairly priced and well worth the peaceful adventure- just bring a refillable water bottle and they supply everything else, including a ride back to the launch site parking. Even if you've never kayaked before, this is an easy run as the slow current helps you along your way. We saw a variety of birds from hawks, an owl, and tons of heron and ibis, as well as plenty of cool insects such as every color of dragonfly imaginable and a special appearance of a praying mantis. Because it is summer weather, there are warmer waters for the manatee to venture to but we did have one encounter with a young and hungry manatee. This trip did not include any snakes or alligators but we encountered plenty of species of fish and a few turtles. The water was crystal clear, despite the heavy rains this week. A great way to spend a summer morning! Pro tip- go during the week if you can- less boat traffic! I went to Weeki Wachee couple times. Heard so much that I couldn't resist. Honestly, I wanted to see manatees, but I was told they are not there all the time. It's like they come for a season. Anyways, on my second trip I saw them briefly, huge things under the water. They were scared by the motor boat I guess because moved very fast. Despite the manatees it is an amazing place to be. Very beautiful and relaxing. The water is clear. It is an experience! I was given two hours, it was not enough either time. Really, control the paddle board, enjoy the scenery and make it within two hours, is a little short. Maybe for people who are sporty, it would be fine. But I met mostly families and they all were rushing. Also, I was told no getting in the water, yet there were so many people swimming that I didn't quite understand. I definitely recommend. The water and setting was beautiful. We saw a few fish and 2 birds and that was it. There were multiple motorized boats, so it was a little frustrating when they decided to go by and then by again. I was surprised they were allowed there. You check in and are given a life jacket, then you grab a paddle (many were chipped and broken) then go toward the boats. They drop them into the water, you hop in and go. You go down 2.8 miles and get out and they shuttle you back in a jankity, smelly van. It was pretty, fun and relaxing. For our family of 4, I don't know if was worth $120 for 1 1/2 hours. If there was more wildlife, I think maybe I'd feel different. read more

Apparently Summer is busier and more lively with people swimming, kayaking and visiting along the sides of the shore. We actually like the 'quiet' and the few that we met along the way. The current was a nice push to get us through, as we figured out our strokes, spins, and scrambles to avoid the sides, or trees. It was a fun experience and great for beginners. You are kitted out with the life jacket and if you head out in Florida winter I would suggest a long sleeve top and pants but be prepared you could end up in the water. I did ! Wear a hat and sun protection and definitely have water bottle. It's a great calorie burn and workout but very manageable including for the unfit like me. Most don't end up in water. I just got a little stuck and had to Great fun and will do again. We did the shorter version which takes and hour and a half or up to two depending on current and your skill. And yes we did see a Manatee shoot underneath as it went up stream on a mission. read more

This is a really difficult review for me to write. I have been renting kayaks from the business at this location every year for 20+ years. I freaking LOVE this river. I don't want to discourage you from coming if you have never been down this river. It is a slice of unspoiled old Florida at its best. You will be amazed. That being said, the kayaking experience is a mere shadow of what it used to be. For reasons I don't fully understand (or don't entirely believe), the trip from this location has been cut in more than half (from 7 miles to about 3 miles) and now they strictly limit you to 2 hours and claim that there is no swimming or getting out of your boat allowed. This has turned the trip from a half day leisurely float with swimming to a roughly 90 minute paddle. The changes have taken a lot of the fun out of the trip. And even though the rental company can now turn the boats over 2 or 3 times in a day, the prices remained basically the same. Everything about the trip has been made worse. I really don't know if I will ever go back. It makes me very sad. read more

I must've walked back and forth from the entry down to the ice cream place when all I wanted to do was just go in the water and lay on a chair on the back. Also I was not aware I could bring in my wagon to carry in my backpack for clothes and cooler and my pool doodle and my my own chair that I kept lugging back and forth bc there were only clear signs for the mermaid show and the ice cream shop. I can't wait to go back! We had an amazing time this weekend. I had some friends visit from out of town and we've been planning to do this for months. Luckily we made reservations online 2-3 weeks prior since it was a July 4th weekend (glad we did it was completely sold out that day). One thing that bothered me was the many motorized boats. They people on them were respectable, etc it was just a little annoying to see the motorized stuff in such a beautiful place. The water was crystal clear in the beginning of the path especially in the state park area but then towards the very and you could see the water start to change to a darker green not so clear color. Overall our experience was amazing though, next time we go I'm gonna ask about going half way and then turning around and coming back on the kayak instead of going all the way to Rogers and waiting to the bus. Paddling Adventures is quite an adventure to say the least. The staff was helpful, and reservations are easy to make. They do get quite busy, so walk-ins may not be an option, unless maybe it is during the week. It is easier to call in advance. You get the kayak all day from the time you reserve it. Don't be late with the return time. You will be charged $50/hour. Sometimes it is hard to gauge time when you are in the river all comfy and calm, or you are busy crashing into trees ouch. When you reserve your kayak, your kayak is either going to be a single or tandem (double). Those are $32 or $37 respectively. They also have kayaks with pedals. I'd like to try those next time. They steer and you use pedals to move instead of using paddles. You will also get a life vest that you pick. The life vests and paddles are all in one area after you check out. When you are on the river, you will see it is very clear. You will see so much nature around you. There are areas where people can jump from trees or swing from ropes. You can turn into a monkey if you really want. The water in the river is 72 degrees all year long. I thought it would be cold, but it felt so nice, and for the most part really clear. I haven't kayaked in at least 5 years. It reminded me that when you paddle, think of your paddle as a spoon (the curvy part up). Also don't paddle too fast, you will end up spinning in a circle. Also a single kayak would be easier to me on your first time kayaking. When tandem, people need to be in sync. I love nature, and this is a great way to get up close and personal. Just watch out for the motorized vehicles that are there too. It is too small of a space for all of us. read more

They stopped kayaking to Rogers park. 6 miles. Now you get off at a stop on the River 3 miles in and they want you off in 2 hours catch the bus back. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I don't like the fact now you only have two hours , half the miles and the price from July to October didn't change much. If you love this river and don't mind a bit of hard work but your own kayak and launch from Rogers park and paddle upstream. Paddling Adventure just locates next to the Weeki Wachee Nature Park and state park. We have to reserve early for summer paddling. The time slots get full easily. So reservations are important for traveling so far a adventure. The people there are very courteous and they have plenty of workers that can help you immediately. They also have the restrooms with changing room after canoe and you can change the wet clothes. The adventure center certainly wants you to sign your life away for using their equipment. Liability check is usually not provided. Each one of us is going to pick up the paddle and life vests. The life vest could use some cleaning before next person using it. There are sweat can be smell of the life vests from previous use. The aluminum paddle could be change to carbon fiber material that is not conductive during the lighting storm conditions. The pickup point can use some shade while waiting for the bus. The bus just came less than 15 minutes. If you launch your own boat will require a launching $6 fees, and pickup $10 include your boat. If you rent the kayak is $34 per downstream trip. You need to reach the final destination by 5 pm or they will charge you over $50 per person for after hour pickup. We wanted to do a kayaking tour but (unfortunately) didn't plan far enough ahead. So they did not have any boats available as they had all been rented in the morning. But the staff was very nice on the phone and told us it was at least possible that some boats might be returned sometime after noon. No promises but we were in the car already... So we took a chance and decided to head up and see what might happen; and to just head into to the park and have some afternoon fun if it didn't work out. For a while we were thinking it wasn't going to work out and were deciding whether to make a reservation for tomorrow. But it was out lucky day! A couple of kayaks were returned and we were ready to roll around 1pm. Now the boats have to be returned by 5, but we figured 4 hours should be plenty. It was closer than we thought it would be - because we were having a great time! We stopped several times to eat, play, and watch manatees! It was awesome. We wound up having to go more quickly at the end, and that was a little exhausting. But really that was our only complaint. The staff was great, they help you get in, get out, and take you back to the parking area. Fantastic! I came here with a friend to celebrate my birthday. I had never been kayaking and didn't know what to expect. The trip itself was amazing!! The water was crystal clear, shade everywhere, and the colors of the changing trees were breathtaking. We also got to see two manatees! I haven't felt this relaxed in a long time and the beauty was seriously comparable to a private island in the Caribbean. The staff were awesome. To start with, the facilities are clean and organized. We had no issues with figuring out what to do or where to go. They were prompt and friendly when we arrived. When our trip was done, the staff were exactly where they said they would be and helped us out of the water right away. No confusion whatsoever. Finally, John is my hero!! My favorite sunglasses got ripped from my head when we accidentally kayaked into a tree (whoops) and John went out, found the sunglasses after searching for 30 minutes, and is shipping them back to me! That kind of customer service is hard to find these days, let alone that genuine kindness from a complete stranger. I love kayaking here, but the customer service is THE WORST. I get it, high call volume but there has to be a better system. We ran late to our reservation and tried to call several times. No answer. The man in charge of the reservations at the desk was rude, at best. (I'll keep my colorful language to myself.) Essentially it was a shoulder shrug and "eh, nothing I can do. It's credited to your account."He didn't even try to help, he made two phone calls to the same line that never picks up and sent us on our way without even an apology. He claimed someone picked it up online between 11:15 a.m, and 11:40 a.m. and was already there and in the water. Yeah, ok dude. I get that there are policies, but at the end of the day you are nothing without your customers and it's essential to good business that you at least make some attempt at helping. Yesterday's attempt at customer service was so freakin' lazy and apathetic. PS in case you need to spot him: he was balding and married, probably 45. 10/10 would not recommend going to that dude. This is one of our favorite rivers to paddle but it tends to get very crowded, especially on summer weekends! But on quiet days you see so much wildlife, including manatees year round. We even saw a mama and baby dolphin once (it made the news)! If you have the option, go midweek, or weekends once schools are in session for a more peaceful day :-) One warning though: they are now limiting the number of launches Per Hour, so you MUST have a reservation if launching between 8 am and 2 pm. Private launches are $6.00. To save money on a shuttle, have one person in your party leave a vehicle at Rogers Park (endpoint), or only pay to shuttle one person back to get the car. read more

If you have the opportunity to either paddle or kayak at Weeki Wachee Springs, DO IT!!! Probably one of the most beautiful and serene experiences that I've had. For my boyfriend's 24th birthday on 2/3/18, I rented two single kayaks for $35 each for a 2-2.5 hour trip down the river (it took 4 hours with all our stops). It was worth every penny! In the state park, which is the beginning of the trip, the water was such a beautiful blue/green color and it was the clearest water I've ever seen. As expected, the further down river and closer to people you get, the murkier the water gets. However, there's a spot that's deep enough for full-sized manatees to congregate so we were able to get and up close view of the beautiful creatures as they swam around and under us at this point. At the end of the trip, they have a shuttle that takes you back to your starting point/where you parked so the only thing you need to worry about is making it back before the last pick-up for the day. You're able to bring food and non-alcoholic drinks with you so it's nice if you're looking for an all day activity. Also, if you have younger children, that actually Weeki Wachee Springs Park has a mermaid show and live animal show that are both enjoyable and short. 10/10 would recommend this for anyone within a 2 hour drive (Tampa is less than an hour and Saint Petersburg is slightly more). read more

We came by during spring break and had a great time. The staff was very accommodating as we scheduled for the next day by accident but they fit us in with no problem. The staff was very helpful and knowledgable of the river and tree that was down. We had two double and one single kayak. We followed a large school group and still saw 6 manatees, lots of fish, paliated wood pecker and other birds. The ride took about 3 hours and was very relaxing. We will be back in November when not so crowded and maybe even more manatees. read more

I love going kayaking on Weeki Wachee and would recommend renting or undocking at Paddling Adventures. CRYSTAL CLEAR water!! Their equipment isn't the newest but it def works out since it's rental. There's also parking and once you reach the destination you get shuttle back, so you don't have to kayak back up the stream. I was able to see manatees, turtles, fishes and so much more. It's a great place to visit and there are many places to just stop and swim around. It's an all day activity and be sure to bring food and water to snack on. My only issue with Paddling Adventure would have to be the staffs. They were not very informative at all. My first time visiting wasn't bad because it was busy and I just followed the waves of people, but the second time I had brought back some new kayaking friends and Paddling Adventures did not explain to them at all how kayaking at Weeki Wachee worked. Being my second time there I was def not a pro at kayaking at that specific river. They did not explain to my friends (first time kayaking) on how to exactly kayak in the water, where they should go and where we had to stop and swim around. We all felt there was some sort of attitude going on every time we tried to ask a question. Also the paper map certainly does not help. Both times the map have gotten wet, obviously because we are in the water kayaking. The lagoon is beautiful, It's small, everyone stands around but you can't take your drink in, you can't swim, unless you go out to the jump platform. The rules at this place are out of control and the people are incredibly rude that work here. You can't snorkel in the lazy river or even get off your raft even if you fell off and need to get back on they will kick you out, you can't bring in disposable items and yet I saw people bring in big bags of chips and sodas. They say you can't bring alcohol but they sell it. Except Pauline at the tiki hut has an attitude and is rude to patrons. I ordered two drinks my husband was next to me but behind she said you get one, this was our second drink and we both showed our bands. Instead of grabbing us our drink she grabbed drinks for two others sitting on the way opposite side from us, then helped people eat at the other end and took her time. Mind you this wouldn't have bothered me but I know I ordered first and she just mentioned how she made some other Payton way a long time after her kids were trying to eat lunch at the bar and she kicked them off. Which I understand as it's law. However she was rude to the mom, calling her Mami instead of ma'am or miss, her tone was condescending and unnecessary. She had no sense of humor as I tried to make light of the awkward situation and she continued to not fill my order so we walked out. We went to catch the mermaid show and it was full and told unless someone leaves we can't go peek, as she says this a huge group of people leave and the lady said we could go peek. As we walk closer to the entrance another rude lady walks up and said we had to leave. After all the rules and feeling like we we couldn't enjoy ourselves we left. This place is full of unnecessary rules. One rule I agree with is DONT TOUCH THE WILDLIFE. There was so many idiots there so I get why the staff is rude but this place was not worth getting up early for on a Saturday. To be yelled at and told no, be ignored and inconvenienced. We had a group outing planned and half of our group got a reservation while the other half had to schedule with other vendors in the area because they finally replied they were booked to one of our friends. I called at least 10 times and sent a web request 3 times and still have not heard anything back. How can you run a business like this? The phone would either ring 10 times and then disconnect or it would be busy, but nobody would answer it. The river is breathtaking. Check in and reservation process went very well and prices were reasonable. As a beginner, it was a manageable current and I felt safe (equipment was sturdy, life jacket provided). It should be noted that swimming is not allowed on the river and you are told to refrain from getting out of your kayak. Unfortunately, although the river was beautiful and staff was very professional and welcoming at entrance and launch, this was not the case at exit. At the exit the staff members were very rude and condescending. I witnessed several staff yell at people who were having a difficult time paddling to the exit and offering no assistance. In addition, the bus driver made inappropriate comments to me about my last name and told me to "hurry up and get in the van" and "you don't need a mask" as I was waiting for my husband to exit his kayak and putting on a face covering (he initially thought I was there alone). When I contested that my paddle broke very easily and that it was from wear. You could even tell the paddle has seen better days by the gripping that was frayed and tattered. What does the cashier tell me? "Well ALL the paddles are old. I have to charge you, We are low on paddles." Lmao I thought I had temporarily blacked out and entered a dream world. They admitted on using old equipment and charging unlucky customer to replace their equipment. It gets funnier, they charged me 45 dollars and my friend has bought his own paddle for nearly the same price. He kayaks regularly, but even for a novice like me, just by looking could tell it was far far and away a superior product. He assessed my paddle and was very angry at the situation. Heyyyy I don't mind paying for the paddle, but you better charge accordingly. Don't come at me with that crazy nonsense, I am not a fool. This is a public launch point used by different companies. The river is littered with different dock points and I have options sweetie. In fact one of your reviews points me to kayak shack and I will be checking them out. You got 45 dollars on a poor policy because you won't properly finance your own equipment, but you lose the repeat customer who would bring friends. You do the math, it's your loss. By the way if you still intend to go here, bring your own paddle or you might be buying a broken one for the same price. Also buy a life vest because they do not wash theirs. Sidenote: Half the river distance goes from nature to residential, the river becomes everyones backyard. This river is not exclusive and very open to anyone with a kayak. I've been coming here since I was a teenager and have always had an incredible experience. It's one of my Top 5 things to do in the entire state of Florida. Service is always wonderful. The staff is cheerful and helpful and they know everything there is to know about the river if you ask. The facility to very simple and they have their procedures down to a science. My only wish is that they would stay open later, since you must be back to Rogers Park by 3pm OR ELSE! The prices for boat rentals haven't changed in over 10 years ($35 for a canoe, everything included) and that says a lot about the place. Definitely make a reservation and get on the water as early as possible to avoid obnoxious boaters and the stress of the time limit and spend as much time swimming at the start of the trip as possible because the water gets murky later on in the residential areas. CONVENIENT LOCATION It looks like you're heading into THE famous Weeki Wachee Mermaid area--nah, you just go to the very back of their parking lot where signs will lead you to the Paddling Adventures area. It has its own small parking lot which (depending on the time of day and date) can be already a bustle of activity. There are other areas on the Weeki Wachee Springs trail to rent a canoe or kayak, but Paddling Adventures is one of the few at the beginning of the Springs. That means you're instantly surrounded by the clear, clean waters and natural vegetation. Not to mention when you're finished it's an easy walk or drive to see the Mermaids. PRICES AND RENTALS The prices are very comparable to other kayak/canoe rentals in the area. I had no complaints at all from the crafts I've rented (and I've rented both kayak and canoe). The items definitely appeared shared, but were not dirty, broken, or worn out in any way. Once I was on the water I felt like I owned the thing. SERVICE IS ABOVE WATER The counter staff was smiley and efficient. They know how to keep the line moving by having separate areas for payment and signing waivers. Once you pay it's a short walk to the waterfront where more workers are waiting with your vessel. They'll even launch you. At the ending point, the staff was just as efficient in helping you out of the water and directing you to the shuttle wait. It's at a park so there's bathrooms nearby too. During busy times you may have to wait about 15 minutes for your ride but they're good about sending more shuttles out if there's lots of people. read more

My husband and I made the last minute plan to visit Weeki Wachee River during our short visit in Clearwater!! I have say - totally worth the trip. The scenery is breathtaking and OMG...the water is crystal clear and refreshing. It is nuts that we spent the whole 5 hours in the river since we enjoyed the water there so much! We were the last two folks to be picked up by the crew that day to the shuttle...so happy and fortunate that we encountered two manatees while kayaking - now I feel my trip is complete ;) I will recommend anybody to do kayaking on Weeki Wachee river if you love the mother nature! read more

We've kayaked on the Weeki Wachee river multiple times and it's always been an amazing experience, but sadly, that's no longer true. There are TOO MANY kayaks on the river now. We couldn't find an unoccupied section of river bank to rest/swim/eat so we just continued down the river. And once we got about 1/3 of the way, there were so many power boats, we were just ping-ponging back and forth across the river to get out of their way. It normally takes us about 4 hrs to complete the trip because we stop several times to enjoy the beautiful spring water, but this trip took us just over 2 hrs because we were just interested in getting done and getting off the river. read more

We absolutely loved kayaking here the clear water is breath taking. The staff were great. We saw manatee, snakes, turtles and several different birds. Plenty of shallow areas to stop and enjoy the water. The only thing I would change are the larger groups that came around the same time we did. We had to intentionally slow down to keep a distance from their loudness. read more
