I started to volunteer with this organization, and it was the most insulting experience I have ever came across. I did close to all of the work and assignments told aside of 2, we as a group of trainees were told that we would get a follow up email individually on anything lingering. As I waited for Jaimes follow up email she gaslighted me instead and made it seem as if I was not interested and then questioning my ability to follow through. I went through weeks of training giving 3 hours twice weekly, reached out to 3 people to use as for a reference, went to dmv for my printout, did 2 over an hour interviews, paid money out of my own pocket to drive to pacific beach to get my fingerprints scan, and sent emails in a timely manner to communicate. With all that said. Jamie continued to question my interest in the program. I reachedout to her direct supervior to give feed back and her Supervisor Jenna who was also condescending to me when it came to me voicing my concern about my interaction with Jamie. If she's been so supportive to others and followed up with others and did not gaslight others it makes me feel that it has to do with my race! There is no reason why she should not have shown me support or gratitude For my time and all I have done. I was one of the only Hispanics in my group and I was the only one they were treating poorly for no reason. Even more so to think that if the bigger picture is to help a child and that was something they were truly concerned for they would be going above and beyond to make that happen instead they both treated me like I was less than. My advice is to volunteer your precious time with and organization and people who value and support you. Good luck out there to all of you amazing people who do volunteer work...

She also teaches ballet for small kids there and I got to know this location as she invited the gym friends for her inaugural class. It was easy to find parking. The dancing room is very spacious, with great natural light and good acoustics without bothering other classes at other rooms. I am glad that I had the opportunity to get to know this performing arts center thanks to my friend and looking forward to attending more classes.

Well, I heard about this through the high school and we went. I can't believe what a GREAT experience it was! There were almost TOO many dresses to choose from and the volunteers as well as the other moms were so helpful and supportive. I love this! We found a beautiful dress in which she wore to her first American prom and paid nothing. I love that Princess Project is out there for any high school girl to experience - no matter the economic background, size or style. Thank you!

I've first heard of Princess Project many years ago when I donated my dresses. I think it's a very…read moregood project for high school teens to pick out their prom dress and have an opportunity to attend prom. The project usually starts in March and ends the end of April; basically before Prom starts. This year location was in Mission Valley Westfield mall, located by the USPS, DXL - Big & tall and restroom. For teens you'll have to go through Eventbrite website and pick a time slot to attend the dress event and sign an online waiver. Everyone else who is accompanying a minor, they would have to sign a waiver as well. Only one guest per teen. Other pop up locations are available on the website but Mission Valley is their main location. This year my daughter signed up for the Princess project, they didn't specify where it is located on their website so we walked around the mall looking for it. Once we found the spot, we had to sign in. We got a wrist band with a number for our bag, we cannot take cellphones, personal belongings or drinks/food inside the event space. You'll have to surrender your items until the end of the dress picking event. No drinks/food because of the prom dresses. No cellphones/cameras due to their privacy. Upon entering the store, it was very organized. There were so many volunteers, they can measure you to get the "right" size but everyone is different in shapes and sizes, so you can either add up a size or go down a size. Whatever is comfortable for them. They said there was about 5,000 dresses at this site, it was very overwhelming, seeing all the beautiful dresses. So many colors, style etc. I love it! Teens will get 45 minutes to look around and try on dresses. They are very strict with time management because another round of girls will come in and do the same. I love that they thought about the times, the rules, it's very well planned. They have dressing rooms for the teens to try on their dress and a lounge area for the guests. The volunteer staff is there to help zip you up, help choose dresses/accessories, they are very friendly. Once you got your dress, let your host know and they'll guide you to the accessories area. You can pick one accessory to accentuate your dress. There were so many necklaces, earrings and purses to choose from. After the accessories, you can check out with the front volunteers. You'll give them your wristband number and they'll give you back your personal items. Overall experience was wonderful. It was a bit stuffy inside the space because so many people are running around looking for dresses, AC would been perfect. My daughter had a great time, unfortunately she didn't find something that will fit her right or her style but she did choose a dress and we will alter it. I do suggest booking the event at an early date if possible in hopes to find "your dress", as times go on there will be limited dresses to choose from. Keep up the good work Princess Project. The Rancho Bernardo location is behind the Rancho Bernardo Library by Kaiser Permanente. Oasis Center is available to those 50 years and up. It offers many classes ranging from cooking and art to tai chi/ workouts/ line dancing. The classes are more reasonably priced than Poway Adult School. I have taken line dancing and Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangements) there and have signed up for Cardio drumming classes and tai chi classes too. You can select to take several classes or one at a time. The classes are well attended and the facility is very convenient (lots of parking available). Well recommended for those 50 years and older.

2010 Sleepless in San Diego was another evening literally-"sleeping under the stars!" Not like…read more2009, when it was foggy, overcast and drizzly-this year I thought I would have no problem staying warm enough. NOT SO! I really don't know how the homeless do it every night. After my volunteer shift was over in the parking lot, the volunteers got a delicious catered dinner behind the stage. I then traipsed out to my car to retrieve my 2 sleeping bags, blanket, pillow, and 2 jackets! This year I would not be caught off guard-or so I surmised. I laid the stuff down on my chosen cot-far enough in the back to be quiet and at the end of the row so I don't feel too confined. Then went back to the stage area to listen to the music, speakers, dancers, and Pastor Miles give a little speech to the crowd. Mayor Jerry Saunders was there and he posed for pictures with a beautiful white parrot perched on his shoulder. I hope (well-maybe not-I am a Democrat) that the bird was potty-trained! I was so pleased that I ran into my friend-Mark-who used to live in my apartments but then lost his job and became homeless. A real homeless person to hang with! I am having a genuine authentic homeless experience! This is all going so swimmingly. Started to get tired and thought I'd head back to read my Bible by flashlight before I turned in. What does await me-wet blankets and pillows. Damp; sleeping bags and jackets. I didn't realize that the "dew" would dampen everything, unless those items were covered up by some cardboard or plastic! Foiled again! I guess I am just not "street savvy" enough to realize such details. Go over to the free cardboard area to try and fashion a small tent to place over me because I am now so cold but all the cardboard is already spoken for. Again-authenticity because I have seen the homeless fighting over cardboard along the San Diego River!. But like a true resilient homeless person-I had a solution. I dragged all my stuff out to my car and for about a hour blew my car heater at full blast on all the wet stuff. I was able to dry the sleeping bags off and rummaged around in my car to find another jacket and small pillow. With my in-and-out volunteer privileges, I traipsed back to the event and did my best to try and get a little shut eye. I managed a few good hours before the sun finally (mercifully) came up and I was able to get a IV line of Starbucks coffee into me just in time to look upright for the early Rock Church Sunday service. Another year-another night camped out to raise money for the homeless and San Diego Rescue Mission-a worthy non-profit doing God's work out on our San Diego city streets. See you next year-when I will bring my own portable heater, white noise machine, and more Benadryl!

For the…read moreservice project portion I was assigned to the Women's and Children's Center at the San Diego Rescue Mission. There were several different tasks assigned to our group: cleaning the bathrooms, hallway, salon, playroom, and inventory of the children's store. After the service project you have the option of heading to Liberty Station to pick up your event shirt and a meal voucher. I didn't end up staying for the Liberty Station activities or the overnight stay but I was able to grab a bite and explore the thrift shop they had set up. It was great to see so many of the San Diego youth involved in a great event for the community. Would recommend the event to everyone!
