Last Day - Sunday, December 15th, 2013 Tomorrow is the last…read moreday of the Christmas Market at the "Wasserschloss Kottingbrunn, Lower Austria" (moat castle) There is a crib exhibition at the great hall of the castle, lots of traditional handcraft, food, drink, alcoholic beverage stands in the castle, in the castle courtyard and the stables of the castle. The museum with real Messerschmidt aircrafts, trains, Roman artifacts and peaces of the Austrian Emprior time is also open!!!! For the children there is a lama and a turnery workshop. Every year it gets better and better - thanks to "Kunstszene Kottingbrunn and Mrs. Künzel" and the local people, it is the heart of the city and means lots to the citizens and that is what you see and feel!!! THE Christmas market with the special touch - exactly THE ONE for families!!! Unfortunately Sunday, December 15th, 2013 is the last day of this years Christmas Market, but it's still worth seeing it!!! Hats off for KOTTINGBRUNN!!!!

My friend and I visited Forchtenstein Castle when exploring Burgenland for a day or so earlier this…read moremonth. Unfortunately, most of the castle is only accessibly by guided tour (and they only offered a tour in English at 1pm on the day we were going to visit). We couldn't make it for the tour, so we weren't able to visit most of the castle. The portion of the castle we could visit was a bit of a museum about the Esterházy family and the castle, which was interesting, but I wish we could have visited the spaces only available by guided tour. Still, the castle is beautiful (and very different looking from the other castles we visited on our trip, because this part of Austria used to be a part of Hungary) and had incredible views of the valley. There was a wedding happening when we visited, and I can see why the couple wanted to be married at Forchtenstein Castle - it was really beautiful. (They also have a restaurant at the castle that you can visit if you're hungry or thirsty!) Overall, it was a wonderful stop during our time in Burgenland but take the guided tour if you can!

Here you can find the "REAL" Austrian Schnitzel, "Backhendl" - chicken "Schnitzel style" and other Austrian specialities and of course the local wines. All the wines come from the family viniculture. Since Roman times the tradition is that when the "Heurigen" or the inn is open, there is a beam with some green sticking out of the house and you will find at the entrance of the city or village singes showing the name of the place and the word "Ausgesteckt". Besides you can also visit Kottingbrunn Castle with its Romand and empire's museum and the castle court with its many little lakes. Heurigen Ednitsch is now open till March 12th. The smell of fresh, juicy food, the laughter of children playing at the Heurigen's playground and a colourful appearance with lots of green is always the sign for a good place to eat.
