Absolutely amazing Portugieser!!…read more In all our wine tastings, the Mr & I steered away for the Portugieser but Klaus Böhme totally won us over Lovely tasting room and there were many of their wines available for tasting - we found more than a few we liked but were blown away by the Portugieser. Fruity and dry all at the same time with a nice full-bodied effect - amazing! While we were there, another couple from the same region in western Germany as we live, came in specifically to stock up on Portugieser & we all delighted in Klaus Böhme - we have found a treasure!

If you're in Sachsen, you must visit Weingut Matyas. It doesn't show up on many of the lists of…read morewineries I reviewed prior to my trip, but it happened to be in walking distance of my Pension, so a visit made sense. They serve a full menu of Kleinigkeiten (tapas) on Sunday, and are otherwise open for tastings in the afternoons. Wonderful whites, especially Pinot Gris and Riesling. Yes, Schloss Wackerbarth should also be a stop for you, but for great Buergerlicher hospitality and gemuetlichkeit, Matyas is the place.
